Leonard Yellin, of Aurora, Illinois and New York City – a great supporter of Israel and lover of Zion - died on Tuesday October 23, 2007 at the age of 99. Leonard was born and raised in Aurora, Illinois, received his religious education from his father and attended the University of Chicago.
During World War II, he served in the United States Navy and was stationed in the Philippine Islands. He assumed the role of assistant chaplain and helped officiate at many religious services in the Pacific.

Immediately after the founding of the State, Leonard traveled to Israel and remained a lifelong supporter. He was an active member of HaPoel Mizrachi, and met his wife, Florence Parr, at a National HaPoel Mizrachi convention in 1950.

Leonard and Florence raised 5 children, while owning and managing Yellin's Better Clothes in Aurora, Illinois. They were affiliated throughout their lifetimes with the Hebrew Theological College in Skokie, Illinois, Temple Bnei Israel in Aurora, and Bnei Brith, where Leonard was president of the local chapter.

Leonard Yellin was predeceased by his wife Florence Parr, and his second wife Estelle Gutman, whom he married after Florence's death. He is survived by his 5 children with Florence: Rochelle Verstaendig, Plainview, NY, Samuel Yellin, NY, NY, Dr. Tova Yellin, Teaneck, NJ, Daniel Yellin, Raanana, Israel, and Dr. Bonnie Yellin Gillman, East Northport, NY. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren.
