Hanna     Ben-Dov

February 19, 1919 - March 03, 2009

Israel has lost a great painter. Hanna Ben-Dov, daughter of Yaacov Ben-Dov, the Israeli photographer, passed away at noon Tuesday 03/03/2009 in Paris. For the last two years, Hanna Ben-Dov had been much incapacitated and lived in the Maison des Artistes home in Nogent-sur-Marne, just outside Paris. Although she had lived in Paris since 1950, Hanna Ben-Dov maintained close contact with Israel and a great attachment to her homeland. She had also exhibited in Tel Aviv several times in the course of her life. She is survived by her niece and nephew, Carol Martin-Sperry and David Martin-Sperry, both living in London, U.K. She will also be greatly missed by her students to whom she gave so much so generously. The funeral will be in the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris on Monday 9 March at 1:30 p.m.. Details to be announced in Le Monde Friday (dated 7 March)

I knew Hanna in the early Fifties when she was married to an American, Reggie Pollack. She was beautiful and warm and I found her to be very sophisticated...impressive to a young American just arrived in Paris. I loved her painting and had the honor to pose for her a few times. When I was in Paris two years ago I called her at the nursing home. She sounded a bit lost but always charming. She was a marvelous woman and artist.
