Tzipi Livni's victory in the Kadima primaries will have a major impact in Israel over the coming months.

The way the primaries were conducted in Kadima and all the events surrounding election day illustrated that the 'Kadima political culture' is identical to the original - the Likud's. On the political front however, thanks to Olmert especially, Kadima deviated from the Likud's path and let's hope that continues.

Two challenges stand before Tzipi Livni. One - to build a stable government without submitting to the political and financial threats of Shas, and two - to stay on the negotiation path with the Palestinian Authority and lead to an agreement. Negotiations with Ahmed Qurei (Abu Ala) were handled by Livni with an abundance of goodwill but with unnecessary inflexibility, even as clichéd elements were drawn on from before the Camp David Accords. The inflexibility was always conveniently described as "upholding the security interests of the State of Israel."

However, a skilled negotiator knows when to safeguard his own interests and when and where to find common ground with regards to the other side's interests. It remains to be seen (and hoped) whether Tzipi Livni, as prime minister, would be able to achieve with Mahmoud Abbas what she wasn't able to as foreign minister

I must say that I am not filled with joy at the prospect of Tzipi Livni becoming prime minister. On most issues, she is a political rival, and her executive experience is lacking like no one before her. But for the good of the country, especially in light of the international financial crisis, a stable government must be in place.

I wish her the best of luck in facing these two challenges before her.

Sneh - the phony baloney - is ANGLING for a position. Livni and Sneh are both too dishonest to admit the obvious, namely, the Palestinians want all of Israel . So, it is no wonder this guy is supporting the current appeasement policy Lastly, just think he was Deputy DM . It is a wonder Israel still exists with so many leaders like Sneh..

Dr Sneh Apart from the fact that Livni is your political rival and lacking executive experience you offer no appraisal of her abilities. Her abilities and her potential are what urgently interest the citizens of this country. Do you have an honest analysis to offer us?

Zuckerman, so what if the Palestinians want all of Israel? You mean you didn't know that? And we the Jews, want all of Eretz Israel (including the Palestinian territories). Nothing new there either. But neither is going to get everything they want. That's the whole idea of compromise and the two-state solution. As for your words, Zuckerman, about Ephraim Sneh, who the hell do you think you are, writing this crap from San Francisco about a former senior officer in the Israel Defense Forces, who has done more for Israel than you could probably ever dream of doing? Do you know what hutzpah means?

Brian Sandridge CT, USA: If America won't even establish a naval blockade on Iran, and do all the other things mentioned above like economic boycott by the Anglosphere with maybe EU support, why would anyone believe that the US would retaliate with a nuclear strike on Iran. What if Russia places an "umbrella" around Iran? Will the US trade say Seattle for Tel Aviv? No, Israel better recall that only the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has brought them like Wings of the Eagle back to the land promised their ancestors. Do not lean on weak reeds!
Daniel Gritsky, London: What's interesting is that americans tend to view guns and weapons differently than non-americans do. For instance, if you check out http://www.thegunpoll.com you can see a survey that clearly shows americans want to be in control of weapons much differently than internationals do. Pretty interesting
Lars, Mad City, USA: This is a joke, right? You can't possibly believe that the United States, the UN, or ANY other country is going to prevent Iran from getting their bomb? If it isn't already in the protective shelter, it sure will be. Dr. Sneh, you are correct that the powers in the United States, occupied as they are with a finanacial crisis, NEVER intended to do anything but talk about Iran and a Nuke. It is, as it always has been "an Isreali problem"...if not now, it will be. The UN and Europe won't lift a finger either. Peaceful men like you shall one day know that "talk" is only good for tea parties.
