Louis The Scooterer: Two-Wheeler big event

A  "TWO-WHEELER" get-together event happened here in Israel recently, with Harley Davidson Motorcycles, and MANY other fancy and expensive motorbikes taking part, in a GIANT RALLY.

Riders from Canada and Australia, and Israeli riders came together, to ride ALL around Israel to celebrate the 60 Years Anniversary...and for them "To Remember".

SO... organisers, arrangers, managers, media, Motorbike owners and riders...

Why did you let me down ??

I am a disgruntled member of the public who tried unsuccessfully to find out some simple information: where they would be riding and rallying so as to be able to see these magnificent motorbikes..
and perhaps chat with a driver or more..
and I also wanted to welcome them.

Myself...I am "Louis the scooterer", and I have  scooted many thousands of kms all around Israel on my small scooter(s)...

And from the very first moment of reading about this mammoth rally, I tried to get info and sent several emails and made numerous phone-calls.

BUT to no avail.. I recieved NOT ONE REPLY ! !

SO WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU ?

Let's get to the positive aspect

I learned that The Israel Motor Cycle Club, did much of the mammoth logistics and arranging, hotel accomodation, events, and a host of get-togethers... and for the safety of so many riders and some passengers as well...WELL DONE.. to the organisers who also did much voluntarily.

The days flew by and the rally took the visitors to EILAT, and from there to  travel north to many interesting places all around Israel.

AND they visited memorials and monuments and beaches and many other places..and their schedules needed to be altered often ??

The riders were left with very little time to themselves, and I know they all had great times, and took many pictures.

AND surely "they will remember".. and I understood that most of the riders were over 60 years of age (young people really!!)

I was NOT able to see them at any place during those days because I never knew where they would be and the days flew away so quickly...And its not my nature to "simply give up".

After the rally ended and all the Canadians and their Harley Davidsons and other motorbikes, were already on the way home, that was when I was able to make contact with some of the Australian riders who listened in horror to my stories about NOT RECEIVING EVEN ONE REPLY to my many requests.

Anyway these 3 fine fellows, Sam, Sol and Izzy passed some info on to me.

As they were also seriously tied up in many private and personal arrangements..and much paperwork, and eventually will be  loading their motorbikes aboard ship.

So the short amount of time with them, was just fine to get their description of this GREAT RALLY.. and I managed to take a few pictures of their 3 motorbikes.

Usually in my stories I describe where I am, and what I see, and this time I write a sort of interview with these 3 riders and use a few of their photos of what they saw.

From Canada there were 18 big Harley Davidson and Goldwings and some passengers...and from Australia, 6 people on 5 bikes  (3 Yamaha 1 Harley Davidson 1 Ducati.)

SO I can NOW appreciate the mountains of hard work attached to arranging all this...and maybe I understand why no return calls came to me.

Many riders and some  passengers and many followers, rode many kms. and everyone had many great timesand even with a couple of mishaps, (bad luck for 1 rider whose bike was damaged and he could not ride) this rally went off well and marvelous experiences had by all.

I would have ridden almost anywhere to see these famous name masterpieces Harley Davidsons and GoldWings and Ducatis, and I was planning to scoot to Latrun to see them at the one venue that was mentioned in the original article that I read.

When I called the Armour Corp Museum at Latrun to confirm I was told TO MY SURPRISE that they had been there one day earlier, held a rally for a some hours, and had moved on.

Sam and Izzy from Melbourne made their first visit to Israel, and were overjoyed seeing so many places, especially Jerusalem, and Sam confided in me that his best meal was a felafel in an alleyway, under the stairs in  Old Jaffa.

Thanks fellas for your time... and thanks for the bright blue tee shirt.

I am an English speaking scooterer and writer of short stories and I wanted so much to SEE this event and to write a great story..and it IS A GREAT STORY.

(but for me.. the riding and rallying never happened.)...and I wait patiently til next time.

Once, not so long ago many overseas cyclists took part in a serious Bicycle Rally around the Sea of Galilee (Kinerret)
and that was also a great success but for ME, that event also... NOT ONE reply to my many enquiries! !

SO TWO-WHEELERS PEOPLE....I AM ONE OF YOU...why don't you reply ???

Of course you can comfort me at email  louisdrinkingt@013.net

Reply to Amit. Hi, yes there is always something happening, and even tho' I never saw the motorcycle Rally..I still had many great hours doing other things. NOW I am trying to get information regarding a Rally of 25 Classic Cars that will come to Israel...I certainly hope to get some replies. Amit, do you know about the itinerary for this car rally ? Thanks for following and for your comment.. Lou

it could have been brilliant to read your story had you been part of the experience. such a pity - i imagine your pics would have been fabulous too. but hey - it was still good to read the story about the story that could have been. you took a non-event and turned it into something interesting. keep on scootering, two wheelin' louis!

Lou, it was a great pleasure for the remaining Australian riders to meet with you, supply some of our travel photos and talk over some of the wonderful experiences we had. It is a big pity those you contacted failed to put you in the loop early enough so you could meet the large motorcycle groups we rode with in the various locations we visited. Our personal experiences with the Israel Motorcycle Club and particularly Eliku Almagem the group's President were absolutely amazing. Eliku and his members were tireless in their efforts to safely escort us on the organised rides. Sam Blumenstein

I rode with the bikers on the Galilee – Golan tour on my son's bike. Wonderful people, grate organization on behalf of the Israeli riding club. I did manage to convince them to spend the last ride in Ein Hod Artists' Village, http://ein-hod.info/visitors_to_einhod/yow/

Reply to #7 Robby - San Jose, CA. I will be spending much time at the site you mention. The feed from the riders that I met and spoke with sure made the rally a "number one subject". Its a bit far for me to scoot to San Jose ??..and I hope one day you will make a trip here...and to be in touch. Thanks ...Lou
11  |  DoubleTapper Israel, Wednesday May 21, 2008
Wow. I had the exact opposite experience. I looked up the YOW Toronto, contacted them via email. Gadi sent me the contact info, including the phone number of the Israeli organizer. I called Eli, he directed me to the Israeli website, and the ride schedule. I asked permission to join the ride and rode to Latrun with them on Memorial Day. We had a great time and took hundreds of pictures. See http://doubletapper.blogspot.com/2008/05/more-pictures-from-memorial-day-at-idf.html If you ever want to ride with me, look me up! http://DoubleTapper.blogspot.com

Reply #11 Double Tapper Israel. You are surely very lucky..or clever..or a well known personality ? Yup we sure had opposite experiences..I wont go into my disappointing let-downs details here, but the one name you mention did NOT reply to my FOUR (yes 4) calls. I will certainly look-you-up, and chat with you, and to "ride with you" will be great. I can see your website will offer me hundreds of hours of entertainment. Thanks and I will be in touch. Lou.

Handsome as ever. Love your new blue T shirt, Lou. At least you met up with some of the bikers. Hope that you have better luck with those Classic Cars. Best wishes, Gill.

15  |  Raoul Schur - Netanya, Friday May 23, 2008
There has always been something seriously wrong in total lack of promos for events, whether ads or media announcement of something forthcoming. I have always been a keen jogger and walker, and time and again I have only read of marathons or similar events AFTER they have taken place. I have been disappointed time and again in missing watching or participating in many wonderful events, so I can completely understand Lou's frustration. What is the problem?
16  |  LOUIS THE SCOOTERER FROM NETANYA., Friday May 23, 2008
Reply to Raoul Schur-Netanya. I certainly share your dissappointment..and to make matters worse..there have been occasions where I HAVE seen promos of events (usually Bicycle Rides)..and I HAVE VOLUNTEERED to assist in ANY WAY ! ?...and also NEVER recieved replies.Yes I wish I knew what is the problem. Thanks for following and your comment..Lou.
17  |  Debra Silver, Israel, Saturday May 24, 2008
Hope that you enjoyed the photo links I sent... http://picasaweb.google.com/debra.silver they were a fabulous group that I saw only in Caesarea...now I get to see them everywhere! Definitely a mis-communication and frustration for you...and them! Too bad our media are often busy with make-believe and miss the real stories...but Channel 10 did cover some of it...we saw that after they left our home...on the way to family and friends for Shabbat... and I met them because they found my husband's name on the website, called from Toronto (my home town!) and I picked up the phone and invited them!
18  |  LOUIS THE SCOOTERER FROM NETANYA., Sunday May 25, 2008
Reply to Debra Silver, Israel, Great photos..you are so right about "missing the real stories??".What good luck for you the way you met the riders...Watch this space and I hope my next "planning" will work out with the Classic Cars coming to Israel...including the 1948 Rolls Royce, driven by 2 fellows who will make Aliyah. Thanks for your comment. Lou

Lou, Sorry I haven't sent a note lately. I do follow your blog though, all the time. The motorcycle rally looks like it was a great time, except for you!!!! I really felt sorry you missed out. It was great you could visit with a few of them tho. The blue T-shirt looks great. Must have come from Australia. I think that's the Southern Cross star pattern on there if I'm not mistaken. We had a large motorcycle rally in Cheyenne last weekend. I missed out on that. Saw all the bikes lined up at the Harley shop as we were going home from church on Sunday. Oh well....Take care Earl

Reply to #19 Earl in Burns Wyoming, USA...ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS...to see a bunch of fancy big expensive special masterpiece motorbikes, together, either in motion on the road OR parked somewhere...but NOT in a showroom. Yes the blue shirt is a gift from the Oz guys that I met. Watch this space for the Classic Car Rally from London that will end in Jerusalem...and thanks for following me. Lou.

Louis the scooterer: Reply to Dusty, Tennessee #20. It was a pleasure teaching you some Hebrew words via emails. Someone slipped up and placed only 3 pics instead of 10.. in this farewell story..the other 7 also showed places and different clothes for different weather. Todah ve lehitra'ot. Lou.
Louis the scooterer: #19 Reply to Dr. Hannah Joy, Jerusalem. Please dont miss me!... I hope you will "hit" me at other places..and wave to me and stop me when you see me. Thanks for following. Lou.
LOUIS THE SCOOTERER FROM NETANYA: Reply to #18 Sam Blumenstein...Lets remember that I met you and OZ motorcyclists as a direct result from JPost story..so they have done many good valuable "things". If they find it necessary for me to move along ?..maybe they steer me to something better ??..and I say again..I will make a U-TURN if its meant to be. Also dont forget that on your future visit we should drive around in a rented car during the rain season, and I can show you what you have not yet seen. Thanks and of course we will stay in touch. Lou.
