Louis The Scooterer: Just for the fun of it

A few of the many things I did for the fun of it..and the experience.

Within reason I am prepared to try anything, even some things daring.

Like that time when I was a volunteer in Sar-El at an army base, and I was dared to have an "army haircut at the army barber"..he never spoke a word of English, and at that time I knew no Hebrew, so I just closed my eyes and let him work fearing the worst.

When I opened my eyes I saw possibly the nicest haircut that I ever had...I even noticed in the mirror that I was a fairly nice looking guy..and to complete the "short back and sides cut,".. the barber applied some poodray (powder) and also trimmed my eyebrows. Those that dared me were jealous in the end...and their bad luck coz the barber comes only one day every week, and our program was almost at the end.

When I scooted to Tel Arad way back and my knee was acting up painfully I asked the young pretty ranger if is it possible for me to see from close-up the 5000 year Canaanite city.

I asked does a van or a tractor go near there for me to go in their vehicle...she said a few words to the manager ranger, and he walked to the railings at the road level and removed a small section then signaled me through on my scooter as long as I never entered any of the "houses or palaces" that are there

I guess thats the only time a scooter has been inside a 5000 year ancient city.

That also taught me a good lesson..that is always to make enquiries and ask..(even if the question may sound stupid!) So many other nice things have been allowedat many different places.

I often scooted passed a place and made a stop, to pop in to ask "what is this place?" and I've been told "this is a place where receptions happen"...weddings or large events or barmitzvahs or batmitzvahs or other celebrations.

These beautifully maintained venues with gardens and lawns, (some next to streams or rivers), have exquisite features and beautifully laid tables, with lights hanging from trees and other features, and are situated all around the country and each place is as magnificent as the one before.

They always knew I was a casual passerby, and often seated me at a table with a cup of coffee, and gave me photo albums to see some of the events they catered for. Every place (even the indoor ones), had many lovely garden features, and the one that was most impressive was called "Sycamore Gardens", and there I was told that no Sycamore trees grow in that area.

Once on a scooter trip at the Dead Sea I stayed at the youth hostel in Ein Gedi and was told by the receptionist that if I wanted to go and listen to lovely music I should go late afternoon to an outdoor site in the desert (undeveloped land) section of the Kibbutz Ein Gedi..I casually scooted to the place...I thought I would find a tent with a few tables and chairs for a musical evening ??.. and maybe someone like Elvis playing a guitar. I could not believe what I was seeing!!

IN this absolute desert area away from everything...was this gigantic stage and monster high scaffoldings with all sorts of lights, and many very big loud speakers being erected and prepared for the outdoor concert stages at being a one night event only.

Many experts doing their measuring and carrying and fixing, and I watched in amazement as the stage was being set. Later I was exhausted and fell asleep in my bedroom, and upon awakening, I scooted in the pitch dark to the place which was somewhat deserted and I was told that 15 minutes into the concert there was a major electricity failure and everything was cancelled. A terrible natural disaster.

When I scooted to the spot after midday the following day everything had been taken down and there was hardly a sign of the previous day activities. I have been told that several other music venues are planned for more music events in dry river beds and in mountain tracks...Sure is something to look forward to.

While mainly travelling on my scooter, I have also been stopped a few times by traffic police, and had several very humourous conversations, and been offered coffee and bottles of water, and have always been given directions to places, and always warmly waved on my way...The one time to remember was when I was given directions to watch the sunrise at a certain spot and I arrived at the spot at exact moment of the sun rising.

Hey Lou, The sunset is beautiful, you seem to still be taking pictures with attractive young women...good for you. Is a dry river bed a safe place? what if it rains ?(dangerous very wet river bed)... Great scooting, Russ

Russell hi, I was away from computer for a few days...yes beautiful sunsets and beautiful women wherever I scoot to..my scooter just "knows" where to go ! I guess these specific concerts in the desert would be in the "middle" of the "not rain" season...but the crazy weather all around the world..makes me wonder ?? Thanks for internet-travelling with me. Lou.

Louis the scooterer: #19 Reply to Dr. Hannah Joy, Jerusalem. Please dont miss me!... I hope you will "hit" me at other places..and wave to me and stop me when you see me. Thanks for following. Lou.
LOUIS THE SCOOTERER FROM NETANYA: Reply to #18 Sam Blumenstein...Lets remember that I met you and OZ motorcyclists as a direct result from JPost story..so they have done many good valuable "things". If they find it necessary for me to move along ?..maybe they steer me to something better ??..and I say again..I will make a U-TURN if its meant to be. Also dont forget that on your future visit we should drive around in a rented car during the rain season, and I can show you what you have not yet seen. Thanks and of course we will stay in touch. Lou.
