Rosner's Domain: Wow, Europe is not totally against the Gaza op!Posted by SHMUEL ROSNER
Comments: 105
Read Rosner's Guest: What's the best outcome Israel can hope for in Gaza? Israelis have become so accustomed to the idiotic reaction by world leaders whenever Israel goes to war, that we now get a sense of satisfaction from the mere fact that such reaction is not totally one-sided. One Israeli paper has had a headline today saying: "Europe refrains from one-sided condemnation of Israel." Hurray! Israel's Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni explained Saturday that "[t]he international community understands that Hamas is an extreme Islamist organization that spreads its hatred in the entire region, which is being supported by Iran. And the international community needs to understand that this is the translation of the right of Israel to defend itself, that there is no other alternative and we are doing what we need to do in order to defend our citizens." But does it really understand? The much admired President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy - no doubt a better friend to Israel than his predecessors, and someone who does understand the need to fight against terror - has called for "an immediate stop to the firing of rockets on Israel and to the Israeli bombings in Gaza and calls for all parties to use restraint." The not-as-much admired British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, has said: "I am deeply concerned by continuing missile strikes from Gaza on Israel and by Israel's response today." To be fair, these statements do show a predisposition by European leaders to "understand" that deterioration was caused by Hamas' decision to allow - or more accurately orchestrate - rocket fire into Israel. Thus, they preach first for "stop to the firing of rockets" and only then to "Israeli bombings." But one has to wonder: why the mention of Israel? Why the concern about Israel's legitimate response to the daily rocketing of its civilians? Why only the reviled US administration has the courage and the clarity to respond to the Gaza operation without feeling the need to engage in linguistic acrobatics? "The United States strongly condemns the repeated rocket and mortar attacks against Israel and holds Hamas responsible for breaking the ceasefire and for the renewal of violence in Gaza," [State Secretary Condoleezza] Rice said. Middle East complications aside, it is, sometimes, as simple as that. Crossposting: Jewcy.

Right on Dr. Rice!
2 | Rodney Felt, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
Rice sez it right! Israel does not need approval from any countries to protect her citizenry. It is refreshing, however, to see that Israel is not facing total blame for the current turn of events. I am no longer appalled at attacks such as Hamas bottle rockets hitting Israel over 3000 times this past year goes un noticed by other nations. I expect it more now. Hamas is indeed extreme. The goal of other groups is the same. They are just not classified as "extreme" ...yet. They will be. The battle will continue until the Son of God returns.
3 | Houston Texas, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
The tragedy is that we still have to lie and play games. For example we have to pretend that Abbas and Fatah are "peace partners" while in reality they are as much terrorist as Hamas. We have to pretend that there are "moderate" Arab states, while the reality is that they all are against Israel, and only disagree on the strategy for destroying the Jewish state.
We don't have the courage to stand up and speak our the simple truth: Arab have 99.7% of the total area, Jews have .3% and on this .3%. We need the courage and moral clarity to stand up for these .3%, the Land of Israel, as our country!

Europe not totally against op. Because Olmert Barak and Livni prepared them. jPost on other hand insists on aiding the enemy. Talkbackers not being allowed who support the government. you figure it out.
5 | da lahana, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
Israel should always have the right to protect its population centers from attacks with no apologies for the defense. Hamas has the ball on its court to stop aggressive actions particularly since Israel withdrew from Gaza.
6 | Gene Germany, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
Israel has not only the right, but the duty to defend their citizens against terrorism. Hamas refused to listen to anyone but Iran and is not suffering for their choice of actions. Israel and Hamas had a Truce which Hamas broke almost on a daily bais by firing missiles and mortars into Israel. No country can allow it citizens to be put under missile or mortar fire and not respond.
Hamas accepting billions in aid from the international community has failed to create jobs, grow crops for food or increase medical facilities. Instead they bought weapons for what?

Gazaians: this time you voted for your leaders - what outcome were you expecting from their shelling -flowers?
8 | Samson, Canada, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
What's the deal with your country and religion? If Israel didn't seem like such a theocracy I would be less distrustful of you.
Good work on Hamas.
You not only have the right to defend yourself but you have the responsability to remove extremism from the region.
P.S. Please stop being religious

Arab and Muslim countries loudly condem Israel's attack on the Gaza Strip .
They will try that tIsrael should be condemned by the UN Security Council.
But as always not a word of condemnation against Hamas and other terrorist Organisations for
the thousands of rockets launched against southern Israel
As long rockets will be launched against Israel there will and cannot be peace.
The only ones to blame are Hamas and the other Palestinian terrorist Organisations.
Ralph.

Hamas is completely responible for death of Palestinian people. Israel was waiting too long! How many more rockets had to be put on Israel from Gaza to make Israel to defend its own citizens? Enough is enough! What would, for example, Russia do if somebody fired mortars and missles into Russian territory? Many countries have sent humanitarian help to PA, but, instead of developing PA, Hamas used the money like maniacs to distroy Israel. Now Israel has the obligation to stop the terror! GO, ISRAEL, GO!

I always look at the foreign media for a reality check - how are the rest of the world interpreting what's happening in Israel - and I too was surprised to see that they aren't condemning Israel all out. However in the BBC's web article you have to read way down until nearly the end to hear a mention of an Israeli casualty. Even the Jerusalem Post's own photo essay is filled with pictures of Palestinians suffering? Where are the pictures of the residents of Sderot, Netivot and Ashkelon?

Israeli Zionist Jews may have the US and UN approving their massacre in Gaza, but they will pay. I have no doubt that Iran and the arab countries understand well now why they need nuclear bombs. I am also sure some country with nuclear bombs has Israel's name written on them and will strike wihen the time is right, Israeli Jews will get their just dues. I look forward to reading that Israel has been bombed and Israeli Jew women and children have been killed. Then, Israeli Jews will feel what they are causing the Palestinians to feel. Jews, your day is coming.

Tijuana firing rockets into San Diego??!!! OMG! Poor and unfortunate comments..! This only shows how narrow minded a person can be when trying to put facts in context and how ignorant a politician can be about the relations between neighboring countries like Mexico and the US....For Mr. Barak´s info... California was once Mexican territory...and now is home to millions of Mexicans! I really find difficult to believe that Mexico would even think about bombing such territory....

You, Israel People... are quite crazy... There´s no right to kill others... how many Hamas fighters are between the 270 deads of Saturday? Stop!! The world is just full from Israel´s abuse of power.. you, people are quite wrong about reality... since you get there where the UN put you 60 years ago, you haven´t stopped the fight... Israel is a nation full of anger against others... No wise leaders but warriors... you, yourself have killed the peace paths... You are making what Hitler made in de SWW. Isn´t that silly?? Politics should work!!! Instead of thingking on making war only!
18 | Mujahid, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
May Allah help Mujahiden Hamas in Gaza...
Israel killed thousand palestinian people, and yet not recognise as terror,
mean while, Hamas just killed one israelis soldiers, and all the world says it is terrorist attack...
They just want to defend themselves from the attack of israel's soldiers...
What they got is only stone... on the other hand, israel army got all war equipment and it imported from america...

I think most anyone other than the most wilfully blind must see that Israel and India are being goaded by Islam. It will be a momentous day however when Islam is held to the same standards expected of both these countries.

APARTHEID
F**KING GET IT?
We should stop arming them. There is clearly no desire for real peace amongst Israelis. The annihilation of Gaza is exactly what most sane people expect from a morally-bankrupt and vile little military occupation that has no more right to exist now than back when it was erroneously created.
Gaza is a prison. Israel's policies are blankly racist and have more in common with national socialism than with a genuine desire for peace. Why is this holocaust playing out before our eyes deemed unworthy of a capital H?

I used to be pro-israel, but after serving in unifil in the 80's i changed my mind. you will never have my sympathi again..and i speak not only for my self. I could say a lot more but then i guess you would call me an anti-semitt like you always do when someone critizeses you..

Happy with your success. Good job! Now you have take control whole Gaza and collect ALL male terrorists, age 12-70 and make you Final Solution. God is with you :)

To Borge from Norway,
How come all your blue helmet colleagues spend their free time in Israel and not in lebanon or syria ????
24 | Michael , Fl, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
The anti-semites are at it again. As long as Jews lay down for the slaughter they are happy. Once Jews defend themselves, whether they are American, European, Asian, Israeli, they are immoral bullies. Get the truth, Islam and Christianity, owe their being to the Jews, though they have twisted the teachings of G-d to call themselves the one true religion, rather than there being one G-d and many ways to him. Muslims and Christians hate the truth of their hateful and damning religions, and how much they really owe Judaism, thus anti-seimitism.

To #18.
Whatever the outcome is, Allah cannot be on the side of institutionalized necrophilia.
God is about love and life.
All the progress in history is not about cartoonish "honor" which makes you people kill your sisters and daughters, or target kindergartens with missiles.
It is about the victory of a rational thought.
Learn it - and you'll win.
Except that you won't be bent on killing anymore.
26 | David, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
To Borge from UNIFIL. We all know about the sorry record of the United Nations. Your United Nations kept Saddam Hussein in power with your corrupt oil for food deal. Your troops have spent their time trading foreign currency and searching for local women to abuse instead of fulfilling their missions. Sorry, but you do not have any credibility and given your record you should not preach to anybody.

Shalom, Salaam
Please explain why it is necessary to drop bombs on a prison?
Rockets from Gaza hitting civilians must be seen as terror. But when a state organized, heavily supported by the US, high tech, air force fires rockets and drops bombs on areas filled with children walking home from school? is this not terror? come on!
Hope 2009 will bring some stability to your region.
Peace

Palestinians reap what you sew. The UN is as guilty as Hamas. They have fed and clothed these camps that are populations of hate for over 60 years.I am sure the Fatah are privately cheering.Their enemies infrastructure is being bombed. Palestinians will never get their state. They are not pragmatic. They could have had a state over 15 years ago,but they are liars and don't want peace with Israel even if its in their best interests.
30 | Geno, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
Hamas is 100% responsible for this. Israel has the right ( and duty) to respond and protect itself. God bless Israel. Palestinians - get better leadership!
31 | Howard in Toronto, Canada, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
Europe does NOT understand. When they 'deplore' both Kassams AND Israel's attack, they equate the two, making Israel's actions appear as tit for tat. But they're not! Israel is trying to stop unprovoked acts of war/rocket attacks on her population. Thiis isn't merely 'retaliatiion'. Until the Europeans and the West for that matter truly understand what is happening they will continue to be 'even handed' and ask for both sides to stop! The only way this can stop (and it mightn't be possible) is for Israel to destroy Hamas' operational capabilities; period.

would the people who criticise Israel, please inform me of any country in the world which would tolerate a daily barrage of rockets into its sovereign territoryicertainly do not know of any.It is time that the people in power in Gaza behave in a civilised manner and show responsibility and respect harmony. for the people who elected them ,instead of a missguided loyalty to the extremist elements in Iran who are certainly not in the majority of the Iranian population, and do not wish to see their government as being world leaders in terror. We all want peace, andfor all mankind to live together in

TO Marge:
Hey there Marge. What would you do if, say, Canada started attacking your country with thousands of mortars and rockets? Think you might want your military to do something beyond dropping leaflets? Why not just put on your Nazi uniform now, and go over and help Hamas now? I mean you're so looking forward to the annihilation of the Jews (thanks for not hiding your contempt for us, as opposed to just saying Israelis), you might as well be there to enjoy the show. Truly sickening!

Totally agree with you Bob. The Palestinian people, and other supporters in the region just want to destroy Israel, and take the focus from their own internal problems of corruption and greed. Israel has given the palestinian people plenty of chances to stop the war, well they've just run out of chances. What did hamas think would happen ? Israel is not targetting innocent civilians, most of the dead are Hamas, Israeli's (believe it or not) value human life whether it be arab or any other race. Why would they drop information leaflets asking civils to stay home before bombs are dropped ?

TO all those conveniently far away situated Norwegans etc; if your country was regularly attacked with rockets, would your governments not take some military action? There is no such thing as a 'proportionate' response (your arguments essentially being that more Israelis should die and only then should Israel ever defend itself). After all Western European countries have killed thousands in Iraq and Afghanistan, post 9/11 yet the terrorist atrocities took place in New York. Why do Europeans feel that Israelis should tolerate much more terrorism that they would ever put up with? Hypocrasy or what
38 | Ger - Ireland, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
For once, Israel has not been slated for acting in defense. For how long was it supposed to tolerate the continous attacks on its people and country. Now, I hope the the damage on the Hamas group and its associates is permanent. Destroying half the rocket capability is good but not enough, if it still has one rocket that can inflict any damage, injury or worse as it has proven before. Any country that is attacked in any way, has the right to defend itself. The UN, while the intention in the 50's was good, really needs to have a good look at its record before it starts its usual rant. Action!

Hamas deliberately targets civilians. Israel targets military targets so you are either bigotted or misinformed. Hamas targets deliberately Israeli children and abuses deliberately Arab children as human shields, both activities constituting crimes against humanity according to international law.
Israel is only doing what any other country would do facing aggression: legitimately defending its population.
However, I don't expect a countryman of Quisling to have the moral clarity necessary to distinguish between aggression and legitimate self-defense.

Funny no condemnation of religious cleansing by the Serb war criminal Guv ""Slobodan" Blagojevich when he harrasses and has pharmacists with a conscience fired. Where is the outrage there? Or when the Brits handed over 12,000 Catholic Slovenians to the communist Serbs at the end of WW II for liquidation? Narry a whimper, total deafening silence. Call a waaaaaaambulance for these whiners. And put the rest of the terrorist Islamofascists in Club Gitmo, the tropical retreat from the stress of jihad!
LOL...these semites, Jews and Arabs, are all nutso, killing themselves off over some rocks/desert

I love the pleas for Israel to respond 'proportionately' to the kassams. Great idea. From now on, when Hamas targets a school, Israel should do the same. Israeli home hit by kassam? Target a palestinian home. That's proportionate! As needed but not done in Lebanon 2 yrs ago, the only way to stop the rocket attacks is for Israel to utterly destroy Hamas' fighting capability as she's trying to do now. After that, maybe we can have those 'proportionate' responses! The only problem? Hamas doesn't care when innocent arab civilians are killed and revels in it (looks great on CNN!).
44 | sinnerconman (Malaysia), Sunday Dec 28, 2008
Hamas is the greatest terrorist and the surprised attack killed 90% Hamas. They use civilians as human shields and when civilians were killed as collateral casualties, Hamas use that as a political propaganda. They so not have respect for women and children and they do not care for their own people. Their hearts are filled with bitterness, hate and evils. Israel, go for it and destroy the terrorists and the destruction of the Hamas will bring peace and the Israelis will live a normal life. be productive and prosperous joining the world stage. Shalom.
45 | Bernard, Eire, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
At last, Israel is getting it right in that it organised a PR offensive along with the military offensive. Hammer the message home, Hamas is a depraved terrorist organisation and no country in the world
would be expected to tolerate daily rocket atacks on their country. There is no need to start getting
all intellectual about this agrgument, it explains itself. So repeat same again and again for slow learners.
46 | mike usa, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
This is a problem with no solution. The more Israel defends itself the more enemies it makes. If it doesn't defend itself it emboldens its enemies. True the Palestinians are suffering for being born into their situation, but when will people look for a real solution. Its time to realize that this tit for tat will NEVER work! Wake up, this is a prolonged tragedy, its time to explore all options. This situation will drag the whole world down so who is going to be the smart one and start thinking about the long term. If consessions have to be given for the possibility of peace then........
47 | Gábor Fränkl, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
Shmuel, the problem with this particular site - and its censorship policy - is that you can openly call for mass murder in Gaza for example as evidenced by many posts published on the website, but somehow peculiarly the "gatekeeper" censors comments which term France "fascist" even though I bring some evidence to suppport it and I would NEVER personally resort to comments that touches upon the Arabs in Gaza COLLECTIVELY. Double standards at its best! Go on censor this comment too!
48 | Shoshana, Jerusalem, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
Good. All these comments, the decent and the foul, show what and who you are. Stand up and speak your mind. Mark your places. Choose your sides, and yes, there are sides. When the games end, I want to know I chose truth and justice. When the games end, you'll know what you chose.
Funny how all the books and movies want to show the battle between good and evil as some tremendous fight scene, when it's being played out between us every day, word by word and stance by stance. We can only have peace when we destroy the enemy inside us. I hope for a day that we can all understand how to love.

I am not Jewish, but I fly an Israel flag next to The Stars & Stripes. I was beginning to lose hope that Israel would be moved to action to stop the near daily rocket attacts since the one sided cease fire began. I can now fly thier flag with pride knowing they have finally stood up to the hamasbullies.
Kol Hakavod, Am Yisrael Chai. I have been praying God would Destroy Hers & Ours enemys.
Praise God
50 | Kieran, United Kingdom, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
I personally think that Israel is completely justified to take this military action and eliminate what is essentially a proxy state of terror on it's southern border. I cannot speak for all Europeans obviously, but I think the reason that any criticism has been 'balanced' is because Europe knows that Hamas is a group of racist thugs that have derailed any chance of a peace process in the region. Hamas does not recognise Israel's right to exist! Hamas chose not to extend the 'truce' with Israel - I do not know what outcome other than war was to be expected?
51 | Claudia, Tampa, USA, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
It's about time Israel did something about Hamas shooting rockets into Israel daily! Though the pathetic trio of Olmert, Livni, and Barak are looking more at the Feb elections then at defending the Israeli people. They waited far too long to do this, and I don't doubt they will leave it half done as in Lebanon, hoping for that Arab Israel voter. I want to see Moshe Ya'alon elevated in Likud, he has both the strategic and defense mind for the leader needed in Israel.
52 | Allen S USA, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
All the Pro Israel posters in here already said what I think! I agree with all the posters that say Go Israel...defend yourself by all means! We in the USA would do the same and even worse. We bombed the hell out of our enemies in WW2 and Korea and Vietnam...and what about Iraq! Let Hamas and Gazans feel how horrid it is when kids run for cover!
53 | Proud Israeli in the bowels of babylon just for now., Sunday Dec 28, 2008
IHere's a little history lesson. When the Romans invaded Israel, they didn't want to destroy allthe land or kill all the Jews. Instead, they changed Israel's name to Palestina, And called the Jews Palestians. As there were no arabs living there at that time, the true Palestians are the Jews descending from those Jew and not the arabs. That means the arabs are the occupiers not the Jews. When any country wants Israel not to exist, they call it Palestine as the Romans did. You can find all this if you do history research. As I am an Israeli, I want all the arab occupiers of my country to leave.
54 | dave ny, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
Bottom line: Arabs are absolutely committed to the destuction of teh Jewish State of Israel. The strategies and timelines var amongst different groups and leaders, but the end of a majority Jewsish State int eh MIddle east is the ultimate desired end result. Has anyone ever took a second and asked why after 60 years their are still palestinian refugee camps in almost every arab country in the middle east? Is it because they love their muslim "brothers" and "sisters" so much that they force them to live in squaler and deny them citizenship? Its to keep the "refuge problem" alive!
55 | dave ny, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
the idea is to flood Israel with millions of so-called "refugees" and all their kids and grandchildren in order to destroy Istrael demographically. Its all part of the same game plan. Can't do it militarily, than do it demographically. Peace with Israel? LOL, that the point! Arabs cannot and wil not ever have permanent and recongnized "peace" with ISrael because that would mean that they officially recognize a Jewish State in the middle east. It really simplifies things when you come to terms with this reality.
56 | Laura, Illinois, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
Under the coming Obama administration, the U.S. stance will be one of moral equivalence between the two sides. It is unimaginable that incoming Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will express anything like Condoleeza Rice's clear support of Israel's right to defend itself. And the strangest bit of all is that U.S. Jews were among Obama's most monolithic support group, second only to the black population, I believe. Those who don't learn from the past are condemned to repeat it, and all that...
57 | Richard, Toronto, Canada, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
I fully support Israel's right to defend herself against Muslim terrorists. Israel and the West are fighting the same enemy: Islam. Israel just happens to be closer to the front lines. Go Israel!!!!
58 | Roland Berger, Sunday Dec 28, 2008
The Arab stats, many European countries and obviously the UN will condemn Israel again. So what ? I have heard very subdued comments ,if any, when Hamas bombed South Israel on a daily basis. Israel does not have to ask anyone's permission,or blessing,to protect its borders. Well done,Israel ! Will Hizballah,or Syria, open a new front on the Northern Border ? This depends if their masters,Iran,is intersted in this right now. I hardly believe it,as they know very well the huge price that they'll pay if they make such a miscalculation.
