Rosner's Domain: What Gallup tells us about Jews' support for ObamaPosted by SHMUEL ROSNER
Comments: 42 Follow Rosner's Domain on Twitter! / Join me on Facebook! Couple notes on Jewish support for Obama: 1. As mentioned here yesterday (and in other places earlier), recent Gallup poll found that Jews still support Obama more than all other groups save nonreligious Americans. It also found that Jewish support went down significantly, from 83% back in January, to 64% today. Hardly surprising. "Obama's average monthly approval rating fell by 14 percentage points among all Americans and by 19 points among Jews. Both shifts represent about a 20% decline in approval from January".
2. Gallup pollsters explain: Importantly, the decline in approval of Obama among Jews since January is no greater than that seen among the general public. This suggests that since Obama became president, his actions on Middle East policy issues -- particularly relating to Iran and the Israeli-Palestinian dispute -- have not had a disproportionately negative (or positive) impact on his image among U.S. Jews. This might help prove the point I was making last week regarding AJC's annual survey of Jewish opinion. As you can see in the analysis I wrote, I didn't consider AJC's data very convincing when it comes to proving that Jews are generally "concerned" by Obama's Middle East policies (they do seem troubled by his over-eager settlement-freeze agenda). 3. Words matter, even for pollsters. Note: Gallup says that Obama's policies "have not had a disproportionately negative (or positive) impact on his image among U.S. Jews". This doesn't mean that it did not have an impact, but rather can say one of three things: A. It had impact on all Americans, Jews included (namely, Obama's ME policies are one of the reasons for which his popularity declines). B. It didn't have any impact on Jews/none-Jews. C. It made some Jews less supportive of Obama's, and some more supportive of him - in ways that cancel the impact of this factor on the general outcome. In other words: the Gallup poll can probably tell us that Jews aren't "greatly concerned" by Obama (assuming that great concern would have had more impact), but it can't give us a more nuanced understanding of the extent to which they are "concerned". 4. Gallup says: Much of this can probably be explained by U.S. Jews' heavy Democratic partisanship. We all know that Jews tend to be Democratic. But here, too, one has to be careful. According to Gallup, 66% of American Jews are Democratic/lean Democratic: But if you trust AJC's annual survey, the percentage of Jewish Democrats is 53% (interestingly, AJC also found less Republican Jews - 16% - than Gallup - 27%). According to AJC, 30% of Jews are Independent. This gap can be somewhat significant, although in recent months there's wasn't much difference between Obama's decline among Democrats (-11 between April and August according to PEW) and his decline among Independents (-9).

Analysed to reducto ad absudum. Almost 60% of Americans polled are opposed to health care reform in its present form. Obama's approval numbers are less than or no greater than his percentage of the popular vote in the General Election. Unemployment is at 9.8% and some analysts are now stating that the massive deficit spending will actually hinder economic recovery. Obvious pandering to trade unions is constantly on display. There are plenty of reasons for non-Jews to have diminshed confidence in the administration, but I highly doubt they are focused on Israeli affairs. Similarly, Jewish-Americans have all these reasons plus American-Israeli relations to consider.

Jews would never vote for anyone belonging to a group not accepting Black people. But most voted for Obama. His 20 years in a church who's anti-Semitic Wright he called his spiritual mentor. American Jews also voted for Roosevelt who closed the doors to the USA to my family members that later died in the Shoa. American Jews continued supporting Roosevelt in the same way they support Obama. They in great numbers ignore the plight of Soviet Jews as an example. Areving ze la ze doesn't apply to American Jews. 2009 sounds like 1939 and again 6,000,000 Jews of Israel are set for extermination.
4 | Shel Zahav, Monday Oct 05, 2009
I think this poll tells us that Jewish Americans are among the stupidest of people. I think that a poll of Jews who voted for Obama would reveal that many are highly assimilated; their God is socialism and they worship in the way that leftist Jews have twisted Judaism.
5 | Terry - Eilat, Israel, Monday Oct 05, 2009
Most people, American Jews included, are apathetic & uninformed. They have little in-depth knowledge & understanding of issues. Their opinions are largely un-examined, often contradictory, & mostly very superficial. They are concerned with the petty issues of their daily life - calling them ''sheeple'' is not inaccurate. This ''inert mass'' can only be moved by major events, a war, an economic depression, a major scandal (especially sexual in nature). They swallow platitudes & rhetoric, go with the flow, mostly, they prefer living in a coma, their main concern: what's for dinner?
6 | marcy lewis, Monday Oct 05, 2009
did not vote for him. knew he was a muslim Jew hater. now he is going power mad, running ti denmark, showing up on tv every day to make speeches. as soon as someone disagrees ith b.o. he jumps in front of the tv cameras. i was warned that he would be bad for Israel. but he is so uneven handed towards Israel it makes me ill. I am an American-Israeli Jew and i am not stupid!
7 | MR PROMISE GILBERT NIGERIA ECOWAS COMMISSION, Monday Oct 05, 2009
Iam mr Promise Gilbert I dont have any comment , I love Israel and one day will come to Israel wiht my Family THANKS
8 | David, Monday Oct 05, 2009
Terry Yes, we American Jews are concerned and interested in petty things such as true democracy, equal rights, religious freedom, freedom of the press and speech.
We have an issue reconciling those principles with our support of Israel.
Israel will do itself and us a big favor by starting to listen for a change instead of preaching us,

"Let me be.... clear..." Uh, hey, what happened to my MFing teleprompter, Rom? (Damn Jews. Can't trust 'em..)
10 | Attila, USA, Monday Oct 05, 2009
I am an American Jew and cannot figure out why my fellow Jews are so enamored with the anti-Semite, muslim -loving Obama. Obviously, they will only realize their error upon marching to the gas chambers.
11 | American, Monday Oct 05, 2009
All presidents show a decline at this stage from the days when they were first elected. Considering how much misinformation is out there on the medical reform issue from both sides, he is doing quite well.
12 | Reality Check, Monday Oct 05, 2009
This proves that the majority of American Jews would vote for Hitler if there was a (D) after his name, just like the German Jews of the thirties.
13 | Selma J Frey - Philadelphia, PA, Monday Oct 05, 2009
I am a Jew and agree wholeheartedly with "Reality Check"(s) comments . Every Group cares about the truth ...and considers this when voting., ..except majority of American Jews who will always support and vote for any Liberal Democrat. They are consistenty Politically Stupid. I doubt they will ever learn...as this stupidity seems to flow from generation to generation.....like a horrible
malignancy,
14 | Mike Feldman, Canada, Monday Oct 05, 2009
#11. Is passing a Trillion dollar program with misinformation from "both sides" your idea of doing quite well? What is the source of information if both sides are the source of "misinformation"?
15 | Dave, Israel, Monday Oct 05, 2009
American "Jews" are more American than anything else. Most have spent their lives trying to gain the acceptance of their non-Jewish countrymen. They are assimilationists, and Jews only in name, not in loyalty or practice. They want to be considered Americans like their peers, and are embarrassed of Israel and what they consider her tribal wars. American Jews are too selfish and spoiled to raise a voice to defend Israel, and too ensconced the image of the Jewish pacifist victim to defend anyone, including themselves. This why they're hated. They're too stupid to realise it.
16 | Stuart Creque, USA, Monday Oct 05, 2009
David #8: just curious - is your list of concerns only applicable to Israel? Don't you think it might lead to greater peace and understanding if, for example, Hamas adopted an agenda of "true democracy, equal rights, religious freedom, freedom of the press and speech" rather than teaching Gazan children that it is glorious to slaughter Jews?
17 | Steven J, USA, Monday Oct 05, 2009
1. Have youn seen the approval rating of the republican party? Or Sarah Palin so forth? 2. Nice to see idiotic projections that Obama will loose. In 2009 predicting 2012..! 3. In 2004 with the Iraq war Bush won and a unpopular Bill Clinton won re-election after bad elections in 1994.
Israel will bring itself down. We don't need to do anything. Its policies have destroyed people's lives and brought no peace. We will not be sending billions of dollaers of aid forever.
18 | Not Jewish--USA, Tuesday Oct 06, 2009
Most Americans are true morons, I estimate their mentality at third grade school level, American Jews included. I am one of the minority that voted against Barack Obama. Not only voted against the messiah, I blogged, posted and warned everyone of what Obama's government would do if elected. It is interesting that American Jews learn so slowly! Reminds me of the German Jews that voted for Adolf Hitler. I pray for Israel!

THINGS AREN'T FALLING APART THEY ARE FALLING INTO PLACE.
Create enough disharmony that infighting takes hold and keep 'em busy trying to stay afloat. Americans are stupid.... we have been spoon fed by the government too long. Many issues that Obama said he would resolve aren't the easy fixes he surmised (GITMO). The media is liberal but how do they question " the savior" without it bighting the hand that feeds. You might get kicked like Beck. Refute the issues that FOX news bring up, not resort to personal attacks that never answer the question.

As a child of concentration camp survivors, I watch what is happening with horror. Born after the war, I have never been so afraid in my lifetime. Talk about "Sheeps to the Slaughter" what a metaphor for Lib Dem Am Jews. What is so horrific to me is we have never had so many high visablily Jews run our government before. If this is what it is like for Jews to be running the gov, I'll take the Gentiles. Where is Rahm Emanuel during all these anti-Israel tactics? Shame on all of them and God help us.
21 | Gallup vs. AJC, Tuesday Oct 06, 2009
About the difference between AJC and Gallup partisanship numbers -- Gallup includes leaners. Perhaps AJC has fewer Democrats AND fewer Republicans because it does not? (Haven;t looked at AJC poll, but that seems like a good bet).
22 | Mike Feldman, Canada, Tuesday Oct 06, 2009
An inscupulous leader who is a charismatic orator, an ecomony in shambles, foreign crises; Sound familiar? Americans who love their freedom beware, before you're asking "How did this happen?"
23 | Alan-USA, Tuesday Oct 06, 2009
All the Poll tells us, is that even though they are still in a COMA, there is "slight" brain activity. Until the numbers are inverted, there is no reason to remove life support.

For Steven J.
Say friend, when will YOU stop occupying Native American Land and go back to where you came from, Eurotrash? Maybe its about time a little pissant like yourself had the cojones to practice what you preach. But then again, Leftards are always either girlieboys or blowhard fascists, or both.
I doubt someone like you ever set foot in REAL America, out here, the West.
Oh, if you do ever have the guts to do the right thing and go back to your increasingly Islamic homeland, please take Obama with you and drop him off in Darfur, Gaza, or some other place he belongs, Stevie.
25 | The other Bob - USA, Tuesday Oct 06, 2009
Possibility D - Many Jewish supporters of Obama R concerned about his handling of ME issues, but R still in 'wait & see' mode. So far, we've heard a lot of rhetoric, but seen little in terms of practical results. For example Bibi has defied Obama on the freeze, w/out negative consequences. We don't know what they agree to behind closed doors. Errata - German Jews did not vote for Hitler. No one did. Hitler was appointed to the Chancellory by Hindenburg. FDR ordered the State Dept to facillitate Jewish refugee immigration. State ordered embassies, "delay, delay, delay".
26 | Jimmy37, New York, Tuesday Oct 06, 2009
Most Jews are irreligious, liberal and voted for Y'Obama. Liberals never see reality, only dreams. They think they are doing a tracheotomy on Israel, trying to breath new ideas into it. Instead, they are cutting it's throat. The question is whether Israel will last long enough before another war or intifada starts because they are emboldened by Y'Obama.

To 27Sam Roberts - give BHO time? What Incompetent GWB had 8 years. The only difference between BHO and GWB? BHO is capable of finishing a sentence. Our tragedy is that the US has been without a real leader since Ronald Reagan.

I just read that the USA has supported Iran by accepting their argument that Israel needs to accept UN inspections of its Nuclear facilities. What more proof does Israel need that the Democrats have completely abandoned Israel in favor of appeasing the Jihadists. If Israel can survive until 2012 I honestly do not believe the Democrats will still be in power. Obama is weirding out the American public faster than Jimmy Carter did. Look what a mess Carter made of the World!
31 | Nikki - USA, Tuesday Oct 06, 2009
I am Jewish, but I am not very religious. I am liberal. I am assimilated to a large extent - most of my friends are not Jewish. Despite this, I am a big supporter of Israel, and all my friends know it. I do not understand how any Jew who cares about Israel (and all Jews should), could vote for Obama based on what was known even before the election. The fact that he continues to have any Jewish support amazes me. But the reasons are not because we are assimilated, liberal or not Jewish enough. Rahm Emanuel helped him alot, and Jews want to believe him, like they did in the Holocaust.

Post #8: What kind of drivel are you talking, "freedom of speech" when your party is trying its' utmost to destroy conservative talk radio in the USA through theso called Fairness Doctrine. You already contrl the media and academe. Now, you want to silence talk radio so that only the viewpoints of liberalism are heard through the land. Abortion rights, gay rights, terrorist rights, cockroach rights and bug rights all day all night. Your Messiah is such a tough guy, he appeared on every Sunday program, EXCEPT Chris Wallace, because he knows that with Fox News he doesn't have any wiggle room.

Truer words were never spoken. Thank you for stating this.

Wake up America!!! I did not vote for Obama! Any president that is against Israel and goes against the bible, will fall!!! Pray America!!!
35 | Not Jewish, Wednesday Oct 07, 2009
To # 25--Other Bob, Hitler had around 36% of the votes in elections before he became Chancellor of Germany so there were people that voted for him including German Jews. You are correct that Hitler was not elected. He used intimidation and backroom deals like Obama is doing now to consolidate his power. Obama uses czars to circumvent the system. One thing that you can't argue is that Germany's Jews supported this monster until he turned on them. I suspect that American Jews will have a severe case of buyer's remorse before Obama is voted out or Impeached.
36 | Nevada_len, South Florida, USA, Wednesday Oct 07, 2009
The spin meisters are hard at work using faux polls to prove their validity. Any pollster will tell you that anything over 3.5% error factor is worthless. I didn't see any report as to these polls accuracy.
Second, ask a question so as to give the desired result. All we are getting here is results. withouit and verification, of the validity of the the Poll. My own, very unscientific, poll of Jewish War Veterans, Community Jews, and jewish friends from far and near, show overwhelming for support Israel. Leftist Newspapers are the ones that show non support of American Jews. Liars.evada

#27 The president does not need time...he needs leadership but I do not think that will come to pass. His domestic policies are losing jobs and his foreign policies are pathetic. With one simple pen, president could cut taxes on small businesses and help them to create jobs.
He is a radical in every sense of the word and disrespectful to Israel. He apologizes for America when he should be saluting her. Who is running our government? Here, it is called Soros, Inc. and as you know Soros was banned from France. We are excited about 2010 elections and pray for 2012.

dave israel, what a wonderful post on your part, not hateful, but truthful.
I am not a Jewish person, but I am a big supporter of your country. I am related through marriage to
liberal Jews, and let me tell you. Me a baptist from Texas loves, and supports the people of Israel more then these folks do. They even defend hamas to me? I just don't know if folks in Israel these days have the true picture of who this man in the white house is. Or what his plans for Israel are. My Church prays every Sunday, for Israel and it's friendly warm, and Brave people. see ama baptist church you'll see.

I would like to ask the ultra intelligent #5 Terry what a "sheeple" is. I must be among the stupid Americans with a very limited vocabulary. You, as well as many (notice how I do not say ALL?) Israelis, are a racist jew. Kol HaKavod!
40 | Louise -USA, Thursday Oct 08, 2009
GOD BLESS ISRAEL AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE!! I didn't vote for Obama! Pray!!!
41 | John, Wednesday Oct 14, 2009
I am very disappointed to see this polling showing the continued Jewish support for Obama. Every action Obama makes clearly shows his Marxists beliefs. So, it is apparent that a large majority of Jews in America are not true Americans or just plain selfish. Either way, these foolish thinking people have a big burden to carry if Obama is allowed to continue on the path he has taken.
42 | G-Jean, Wednesday Oct 14, 2009
# 8--American Jews are concerned and interested in petty things such as true democracy, equal rights, religious freedom, freedom of the press and speech. Well guess what!!! A lot of just plain old Americans are interested in these things too---These are the things we are screaming about losing on a daily basis and believe me this administration is taking them away from us just as fast as they can!! Religious freedom--look at Miss California, Freedom of the press and speech--look at the war with Fox News. As for Israel-when you are under attack all the time then you can judge them--not now.
