My latest TNR article is here. Here's one paragraph:

That is one tall tree he has climbed. Abbas is now committed to a stance that cannot be acceptable to an American administration that prides itself on engagement with friend and foe, and dialogue without preconditions. If Obama is willing to negotiate with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, how can Abbas get away with refusing to talk to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu? On the other hand, with every bombastic statement, Abbas seems to be limiting his domestic options. How can he go back to negotiations while saving face with his own people after repeatedly promising not to do so unless Israel freezes all settlement construction?

Rosner, wake up. You're stuck in a time-warp. There is NOTHING to say about Abbas, Fatah, the illusory peace process, or any of the other BS topics we waste our time analyzing over & over again. This crap is so yesterday it's not funny. This is exactly like a scientist who does the same experiment every day, gets the same result proving his hypothesis wrong, & then doing the experiment again, over & over. Einstein has a famous quote on this. Get it into your head - WE WILL NOT HAVE PEACE WITH THE ARABS. Sorry to shout, but I always get the feeling Israelis are psychologically deaf.

The real issue is our own leadership or rather, the lack thereof. Now we have the supposedly right-wing Likud & our formerly tough-talking PM babbling about ''peace'' & negotiations all day, every day. Suddenly, he has become the full-time supporter of a Palestinian state. And so, what we should be talking about is why our dysfunctional political system invariably pulls right-wing PM's to the Left. Netanyahu was NOT elected to create a Palestinian state. Evidently, those who predicted this (myself included) were entirely correct in assessing Netanyahu.

If the "peace process" really is so dependent on the individual personalities rather than on the national will of the respective parties, then what good is it? A peace that depends on Abbas being the Palestinian leader will fall apart once he leaves the scene, which, being mortal, he someday must.

Maybe it is about time that US policy changes. Obama was in Asia & instead of dealing with the major concerns of Asia like trade & security, what does he do? He blasts Israel over the apartments in Gilo (which are in southwest Jerusalem anyway.) The US, EU, etc... need to get it through their heads that that the Arabs want conflict - its their mainstay in life. When the US, EU, etc... stop acting as an enabler to Arab wet dreams, maybe, just maybe, negotiations will proceed. Right now, Abbas is like a pig in mud - the US put him there & Abbas is happy as a clam. (excuse the non-kosher puns.)

Who cares about abbas the terrorist.,and netanyahu shouldn't either. What's wrong with Israel's leadership as they seem to be bending over backward to appease both the syrians and pallis.?You've heard the saying "peace at any price is no peace" What are you Israelis going to do about it?March and protest against your leaders and of course lefties selling your country down the {swanee]"Who's brave enough to say NO MORE LAND FOR APPEASEMENT..

Sally - U.S.A.: Daran, I'm not trying to double team against you with Mike, but I do want to bring up couple of points with you & this seems like a good time. Many times you ask people questions or their opinion & most of the time, they answer you. But when the shoe is on the other foot, you don't. Second, you misstate facts & will not admit to it. Everyone makes fact misstakes; I know I have. But you insist on agruing facts when there is nothing to argue. In my opinion, it doesn't show cleverness; it just shows an inability to engage in discussion. If you are a friend of Israel, shouldn't that be your concern
