Updated Jan. 29!!! Election 2009: Rosner's Poll Trend

In a weekend (Friday) column I wrote for the daily Maariv (Hebrew only) I predict - based on good sources - that Obama and Mitchell will demand settlement freeze, and not just the removel of illegal outposts. The fact that Mitchell didn't yet say such thing is not at all surprising since his current trip is a "listening" tour. Demands will come later in the game and with a new Israeli government.

Anyway, since I wrote and sent my weekend article, a couple more people wtote similar things. And since I agree with them, I thought I should share it with you:

Here's Meir Javendanfar (in JPost):

Obama will have to repair the stance of the US in the region by making overtures to the Arab world. This includes putting strong pressure on Israel to freeze settlement construction, and that the concept of "natural growth" for West Bank settlements will become a red line.

And Steve Rosen:

It is safe to predict that the Obama administration will call for a settlement "freeze." George Mitchell has been associated with the freeze concept since the Commission he headed in 2001 concluded that "Israel should freeze all settlement activity, including the 'natural growth' of existing settlements." The Bush Administration signed on to the idea in 2003, when it joined with the E.U., Russia, and the Secretary General of the U.N. to promulgate the "Roadmap to a Permanent Two-State Solution to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict." The Roadmap requires, in Phase I, that, "Consistent with the Mitchell Report, the Government of Israel freezes all settlement activity (including natural growth of settlements)." The Obama Administration's commitment to the Roadmap was reaffirmed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in her confirmation hearing, and no doubt she means to include in this the call for a settlement freeze.

This is correct and if you think they are kidding you are on drugs.
2  |  Terry - Eilat, Israel, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
We have no interest in any freeze on settlements, especially re: natural growth. This is a step towards another massive eviction of Jews leading to a Judenrein Palestinian terror state. I've said this before - Obama will be a failure like Jimmy Carter. We have to resist for four years until he is out of office. To any serious observer, Obama is already floundering, going down paths that failed before & not just on the Middle-East. He is a rank amateur & not a very original thinker.
3  |  Pat, London, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Demand, maybe, but the question is if and how they will back the demand up. After all such a demand isn't really anything new in itself.
4  |  Dan NYC, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
"Obama and Mitchell will demand settlement freeze" SO WHAT?
5  |  Elisheva USA, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
I think #2 Terry is correct and Israel is going to having to maintain her position no matter what. I do not see Obama doing anything but trying to placate Ahmadinejad and the rest of the Arab nations. He isn't strong enough to stand up to a fanatic radical regime that certainly has the intent to destroy the USA and Israel as soon has it has completed its nuclear ambitions. Israel is going to have not only depend on her own strength but the supernatural strength and power of the Almighty G-d of Israel.
6  |  Joe Smith Boston, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
nobody except the Israelis themselves should be able to tell Israel what to do regarding scurity etc. if it means telling this little pipsqueek Obamam to shove it so be it. Israel if they have to go it alone they will in the end be a better country for it.
7  |  Michael Ireland, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Welcome all - that is an excellent negotiating tactic - tell the new President of the USA to "SHOVE IT". When one sees Obama's background, his philosophy as outlined in his inauguration speech and his speed to tackle issues, tell him to shove it might not be the best tactic. I see changed times and the principal question is - can the protagonists change their position to bring in a deal or will they be squeezed to the point where they will have no choice.
8  |  Chaim - Israel, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Obama and Mitchell can demand but a self respecting Israel will respond with a resounding "NO". Most of us have learned the lesson that Israeli retreat ALWAYS leads to disaster. Judea and Samaria are ours and we have the right and the obligation to settle our lands as thickly as possible. Judea and Samaria are the most vibrant part of Israel with a growth rate three times that of the rest of Israel. In addition, Judea and Samaria Jews are the happiest and best educated, according to recent studies. Judea and Samaria are our heartland and we're determined to massively settle there.
9  |  Amnon, the Great AMERICAN Southwest, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
They - Messiah Chimp and his Arab buddy can demand ALL they want, but in the end they can go straight to hell. The Chimp, of who many of you (the 78 percent - and fascists like Tommy) voted for is NOT my President, and never will be. He's a moral and physical coward who is beginning to display the signs of being another Carter, we all knew that would be the case. Don't be too surprised if calls for his impeachment begin fairly soon. It might not happen immediately, but it will grow momentum, and heaven help the chimp if America suffers a terror attack. The Settlements remain, the chimp goes
10  |  Tom, US, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
I think that if you take an objective look at what Mitchell has to say and do it will be to your benefit. Because in your self centered blindness you are painting yourselves into a corner politically worldwide that you will not feel comfortable with in the future.
11  |  Andrew USA, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Total U.S. aid to Israel is approximately one-third of the American foreign-aid budget, even though Israel comprises just .001 percent of the world's population and already has one of the world's higher per capita incomes. Since 1992, the U.S. has offered Israel an additional $2 billion annually in loan guarantees. Clearly Israel has the right to self-determination (that's a given right?), however Israel cannot keep disregarding morality in its defense with impunity much longer. Eventually the American public will stop supporting the massive military and economic aid to Israel, then what?
12  |  Jukka Moisio, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
i think it would be feasible for the israelis to ask the us government, to re-think the idea from 2003, in the light of the recent gaza-operation. the main question should be: is it the israelis or their adversary, that's capable for the stable peace in the area in question ? for my part, the answer is simple. israelis have shown to be able to build a flourishing, democratic society. therefore, give the land to those, who are both committed to peace and further development of judea and samaria.
13  |  Amnon, the Great AMERICAN Southwest, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Read Kit Lange's assessment at euphoricreality.com She has it on the mark. Unlike chimpie the coward, she has served in the USAF and knows of what she speaks. Israel may have to go it alone, but will destroy the Iranian facilities. It will be a matter of survival, because Chimp, if he isn't a downright Jew-hater (and I don't consider the likes of Emanuel and Axelrod to be Jews), he is a coward who won't do a thing about Iran except to demand Israeli concessions. Remember, this is the same chimp who sat in the pew for 20 years while a Hitlerite of Color spewed.
14  |  Amnon, the Great AMERICAN Southwest, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Tom, Kindly stick it where the sun don't shine, and take Mitchell there with you. No need to take the Chimp, he wallows in it every day. Israel is NOT for sale, unlike a certain chimp in America is. Have a nice day, Fascist.
15  |  Sonny, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Listen to Ahmadinejad’s yesterday, we would have to help Iran destroy Israel before Iran would even consider diplomatic talks. Ahmadinejad looks at the U.S., as Big Satan, Israel is little Satan, its Islamic Brotherhood propaganda. There is no dealing with Iran; Iran is being lead by madman. Israel has to tell the new American President where to get off, it’s your backyard that is being blown up not his. Doesn’t Israel help the US with weapons development and intelligence.
16  |  LK,Geneva, Switzerland, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Not Obama - or Mitchell - or the Tooth Fairy has a clue about Israel's future or its settlements. Obama is a rank amateur and Mitchell's previous attempts have been less than productive. Why in the world would Obama chose him? The settlements will continue -- and continue-- and continue. Why? The United States needs Israel just as much, or perhaps more, as Israel needs the United States. Remember how often Ariel Sharon was in the Oval Office in the months following 9/11. Bush was crying "Help" big time. +
17  |  Alan-USA, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Obama and Mitchell are in NO position to "demand" anything of Israel. They may propose, but GOD will dispose. If settlements are HIS will for HIS people, they will be. Not Obama, Mitchell, Livni, Olmert, Peres or anyone else's will. Build to The Glory of GOD Israel. Please HIM, not the world and leave the consequences to HIM.
18  |  Steven, San Francisco, CA, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Telling Jews where and where not they shall not live is something that is characteristic of the Diaspora. When Hillary Clinton says "Israel has the right to defend itself" that's certainly an already revealed truth. What she didn't say was "Jews have the right to live where they choose." Why is that any less of a right? The time has come for Jews to assert the right to live where they choose. Israel's survival depends upon it.
19  |  Pantherjet, Israel, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
To Tom who is on drugs. Israel will never agree to any demand by any government that uses us as a decoy for their own purposes of improving their standing in the so-called Arab world. If Americans think that there is such a reality as so-called moderate Arabs, then they too are seriously ill and should take some reality medicine. The Arabs dream of a Calliphate, and the Americans can't seem to grasp this, thinking that the whole world is enthralled with Abraham Lincoln. Tom, the whole world thinks that Americans are drug addicts and usurers and that you should stay home and watch football
20  |  Sara, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Bush is gone, LK. Any Israeli who takes seriously many dangers facing Israel in the months and years to come MUST realize this. Bibi is on a collision course with the new rules of the Obama era -- you see that Shmuel Rosner has finally realized this too. ISRAEL CANNOT STAND ALONE NOW. Israel cannot become the sucker in this new (and possibly quite dangerous) time. AS PAINFUL AS IT MIGHT BE, THE ONLY CHOICE IS TO VOTE KADIMA AGAIN.
21  |  estelle diamond, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
the united States has to face 4 years of middle east chess..........Israel has been there before..and has survived..all of us who elected Obama to office will have to continue sending mail making calls demonstrations. against obamas policies... he is so foolish..dealing with terrorists, murderers, anti semites, will only keep the world in fire............. Mitchell is an open book ...he was ignored and will continue to be ignored again.. perhaps the change Obama pledged..is the change Israel will make so that the Land will contiue to grow and prosper..
22  |  adam, Nevada, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
At some point, might we not see a second independent Jewish state in the West Bank. This makes sense from Israel's perspective. No more messy evictions. Netanyahu can then say to Mitchell, "We don't control West Bank, talk to the (Jewish) West Bank government." Israel is always reacting to pressure. I say it's time for a return to Begin's "create facts" posture.
23  |  Yaakov Zelig -Israel, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
"Gay Faffen" should be the government's reply. Did America freeze settlements when it conquered Texas and everything west of Texas? Judea and Samaria is our Jewish land. It does not belong to Arabs who moved there in the late 1800's, seeking work. We need a PM, who can politely tell America, NO.
24  |  annie smith scotland, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
dont give in to america ,tell them israel has given away enough land already and look what's happened they turned against you. Ireland didn't heed the mitchell report,so dont you.
25  |  Ronald USA, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Absolutely agree with Steven #19.
26  |  Jewgirl, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Nobody has the right to tell Israel what to do; we have seen what American and EU influence brought to us. Let’s look at the truth which is unspoken, they want to make a Jewish ghetto out of our country so let’s tell them finally to shove it, look around you we are almost there. Let’s do what G-D told us to do and have some chutzpah then we are able to withstand outside pressure because Obama’s will come and go, and we are here to stay, it is all up to us.
27  |  Wingless, Canada, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
The Jews mask up 1% of 1% of 1% of 1% of 1% of the population in the so-called 'territories'... If Israel, a democracy, can accept 20-25% of it's citizens to be Arab - why is it that the Arabs can't stand even one Jew?! Israel's desperate want for peace has seriously affected her thinking & logic! If they can't stand 1 Jew on 'their land' then why are we even talking to them?!
28  |  Shel Zahav in Jerusalem, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
They can demand anything they want. "Settlements" include four cities with over 40,000 residents, many more with more than 10,000 residents. These are "settlements" ? Peace can be found in a solution of two states for two peoples. The Arab state is Jordan. The Jewish state is Israel. The border is the Jordan River.
29  |  David Columbia, Maryland USA, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
It is time for Israel to "be the adult" and stop trying to achieve gains that will only harm and not help its national interests. The "hard right" in Israel will not make Israelis safer. Israel cannot incorporate the West Bank into Israel proper without "kicking out" the Palestinians that are already there or they will turn the Jewish State into a demographic minority! It is time for Israel to stop building more settlements. I have no problem with building bigger and higher fences, but a two state solution based on mutual respect is the only workable option for Israel and the Palestinians.
30  |  Dan J USA, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Yeah, freeze the settlements and put the Palestinans out of work! Who do we all think helped build all those Gaza, West bank settlements. At one time brfore the stupid infantada 300,000 Pali Arabs went to work at the settlements and inside Israel. However, when some of them came into Israel to kill Jews (and anybody else) Israel put a stop to it. At least the Mexicans who sneak in the USA dont want to kill us. Wait till Geo Mitchell gets invoved with this Pease Issue" in the ME. Hell think the IRA/BRIT meetings were a picnic! Good luck Georgie boy!
31  |  Eilat, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Israel will be finished if it doesn't establish peace with the arabs. This is the reason why you lot are killed app. every 100 years, arrogance and political suicide.
32  |  Trumpeldor,eurabia, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
300 000 Jews live in Judea Samaria Many of them served or will serve in Tsahal Do you expect them to not to make new families, babies, houses? Would you order one to evict the other??? What are you talking about people??? IT IS JUDEA ,land of the Jews ,that is at stakes here. Are you going to reform Judaism to throw away all our links with our forefathers HOME?? Besides, thanks to "settlements",Ben gurion airport,TA,HAIFA and Jerusalem are not kassamized ! Only the daily sweeps of Tsahal prevent hamas from overthrowing abbas !!! Israel will say no to Obama or it will be national suicide !
33  |  Chrisona, Chicago, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
Obama has his plate full with the troubled U.S. economy, and that issue will absorb his attention. Remember that Mitchell, a retread and an easy choice, was sent on a listening tour, and he surely hasn't heard anything new. I think Obama will opt for a different approach of trying to connect with the hypothetical "moderate Muslims" of the Middle East and try to enlist them in the cause of enlightenment and productivity. Failing that, Obama's interest in the conflict is likely to wane. I don't see him either continuing the Bush approach or rubber-stamping Muslim demands regarding Israel.
34  |  Worried, United States, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
I try to follow the news in Israel - it gives the truth, rather than the "twisted facts" our media sources here present. I wish more people here in the U.S. paid more attention to what our government is doing (i.e. trying to run another country when they can't even run their own). Instead, too many are focused on what the President's wife wore to the inauguration.
35  |  Guy Luxembourg, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
I will not contribute any further to the JP talkbacks . The terminology used here ( chimp , facist , moroon , drug addicts , racist etc ) for wheover does not totally agree with the Israeli position is simply not acceptable and should be controlled by the talkback moderator .( if there really is such an individual ) IThe reason why Israel's image in the world is sliiping is not Iran or any other nation , it is YOUR behaviour in action and words .
36  |  Debra UK, Thursday Jan 29, 2009
A demand that contradicts the laws of nature betrays ignorance.Under these circumstances, Israel should stop negotiations as it is not the intellectual level required to resolve the in-depth cultural conflict.
37  |  H. Jay, Friday Jan 30, 2009
First it was 'land for peace' in the Bush Snr., Clinton , and Blair era, which in turn became the 'Road Map for Peace' as the dominant theme in the latter Blair and Bush Jnr era. Recall that even Carter in his heyday as President did not demand a State in EY for the Arabs there, rather than autonomy. Clearly there has been a subtle and unnoticeable upgrading by stealth on the world authorities' demands against Jews concerning our rights to live in EY. Clearly the fault is with the Knesst and MKs since 1991.

As an American I would typically consider myself in solidarity with Israeli interests... However comments from people like Terry and other Israeli hawks who refuse to even compromise are starting to make me question that support. Obama is extremely popular right now and if you refuse to work with him, you will lose even more Americans like me... and trust me, once public opinion in the US shifts for good, politicians will no longer expend capital on you, and you will stand alone.
41  |  Tom, US, Friday Jan 30, 2009
I do expect for Mitchell to meet with much stonewalling on the part of the Israeli's. But I also expect that American foreign aid to Israel will be cut if not stopped altogether. Once this money stops so will the money that AIPAC has to buy our government. So I also expect that eventually AIPAC will finallt be forced to register as an agent of a foreign country. Same thing with the ADL. So as your influence dries up in the US so also will America stop running interference for Israel at the UN. Eventually, Israel will be invaded from the outside and a peace imposed at the point of a gun.
42  |  andy London, Friday Jan 30, 2009
So Obama is a chimp, hmmmmm, interesting terminology. Does this mean I can call Jews yid, shylock, hooknose, etc. or Muslims Raghead - I hope not. Racism is ugly whoever uses it.

Israel has long committed itself as a nation to permitting a Palestinian State to emerge, including Judea and Samaria. So, if the settlers do not want to leave and Israel does not want to force them, then let them remain where they are - existing as minority enclaves in the middle of a hostile Palestinian State. If Israel will not permit that to occur, then Israel should be abandoned by the U.S. to its fate to exist like other inhuman and unreliable pariah states , without US funds, Even US Jews are moving in that direction - abandoning funding to the Jewish Agency.
45  |  Mountainside, New Mexico, Friday Jan 30, 2009
It would help if someone would show a good topographic map of Judea and Samaria with the populations of Jews and Arabs, the economies of the areas, and a set of proposals for territorial division, roads, water rights, and security. The rest of the world doesn't have a clear picture - myself included.
46  |  Eric Lamme, New York City, Friday Jan 30, 2009
Even Jews in America are beginning to face the realities of the need for settlement freezes. Americans are growing impatient with extremist settlers who jeopardize, indirectly, the security of the US. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Literally.
47  |  Amnon, the Great AMERICAN Southwest, Friday Jan 30, 2009
davidd, Sorry, but it sounds like you're definitely a kool-aid drinker. Unlike you, or Tom or Chimp for that matter, I actually fought in the Civil Rights Struggle, this victicrat is an insult to me, to the three who died in Mississippi and others. He's a fraud, he doesn't like Jews except the kind who embrace his mantra of Liberal Anti-Americanism and Pieces Now of Israel shtick. If you voted for him, he's your problem. If he's going to tell Israel what to do while appeasing terrorism and closing Gitmo, he's mine. So like a typical lefty, you wish to censor me. Best you can do?
48  |  Amnon, the Great AMERICAN Southwest, Friday Jan 30, 2009
To Davey and George, I really don't care what you think. Why? Because my blood, unlike Chimp's, has actually been shed in the Civil Rights Struggle. He is an insult to me and to anyone who fought the good fight and still believes in Racial Equality, NOT victricratic, reverse racist imbecilism. I have absolutely NO respect for a guy who never served a day in the United States military, who sat in a pew for 20 years listening to a Hitler of Color, and didn't have the cojones to walk. You want to call me a Racist, George, fine. You wish to censor me, Davey, great. But walk a mile in my mocs
49  |  Amnon, the Great AMERICAN Southwest, Friday Jan 30, 2009
Now, this is my follow up to George and Davey. I don't like it at all when the guy has the arrogance to tell Israel what to do, yet is so willing to appease the enemies of both this great country and Israel. I don't like it when this chimp, yes, chimp dissed and criticized Abraham Lincoln all the way up till the election. Now Lincoln is his hero. He has no moral compass, no balls, nothing. In fact, calling him a chimp is an insult - yes, - to Chimpanzees. If you want him as YOUR President, go right ahead. He'll never be mine because I love America and I hate Racists. Which he is.
50  |  Terri, Friday Jan 30, 2009

51  |  Amnon, the Great AMERICAN Southwest, Friday Jan 30, 2009
For all of those standing in line to take a shot at me, well, thank you. But I think you had better, especially guys like George who claim they don't like him and are for Israel read the comments of the Karens and Erics who claim this Israel-hater terror appeaser is the hero of the day and Israel had better listen to him. You know something? You who scream at me are the real embarassments. We've got a toxic presence in our midst, and because Americans were fools to elect it, you would rather scream at me than at him. Remember that when they ask YOU to board the cattle cars.
52  |  Lilac, Israel, Eretz Yisrael, Friday Jan 30, 2009
Judea and Shomron are the Jewish heartland --simply Biblical Israel. Fact number two, G-d exists and His opinions can't be over-ruled by a bunch of politicians. We went through exiles but in the end we come home. That is the real roadmap. Those who try to stop us fulfilling our G-d given mission will be punished, read psalm 83, with tornedoes, storms, fires --in their countries. Look at the weather in the world for a hint of what is to come. The Creator owns the world, its His game, and will be played by His Rules-- not Obama's.

Our new president has enough to deal with right here in the US. He should be focused on fixing this country and not getting distracted elsewhere. Why westerners think that problems that have existed in the Middle East for thousands of years are going to be solved in 30 days or even 4 years is both naive and arrogant. It has undone many past Presidents. When push comes to shove, everyone does what is in their best interest including the US. Israel must do what is in Israel's best interest. Just just for now. But for all generations. Not just for Israelis but for all Jews everywhere.

To Steve Gershman, In Tanach we have recorded history of deeds in Chevron, Shechem and Yerushalayim. That you care not to accept them as valid is your problem. But by your own qualification, show me a Palestinian deed to Judea, Shomrom or Gaza. Show me any archeological artifact. A flag or anthem prior to 1948. You can't The concept of a Palestinian people is a fiction. Check the US postal service records prior to World War I. A letter sent to Haifa was addressed to Syria. Southern Israel was under the influence of Egypt. If there is anyone discussing fairy tales sir it is you.

A legal construction under the claim of national and political rights of non-Jewish communities on (Mandate) Palestine doesn't exist and cannot be made, while the legal construction under exclusively Jewish national and political rights on (Mandate) Palestine is still valid. The governments of the principle Allied powers were legal bodies, the League of Nations was a legal body and it was perfectly legal that by them "recognition has (...) been given to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country;".

To Eric Lamme, New York City, Too bad US jews wouild oppose "settlements". Firstly, I doubt it because opposing these settlements mean spitting on theThora Indeed, rebuilding a Jewish presence in Yesha is a blessing ! Secondly,"settlements" prevent rockets launching on "1948 Israel" Thirdly, only Tsahal daily routine activity in Judea oppose hamas takover Conclusion: President Obama faces the worst US economy crisis since WW2 I do hope ,for your well being, that he will devote his mandate to resolve or dampen the consequences of that crisis on American citizens.

There seems to be a lot annoyance here, not regarding the question itself, but regarding the form and manner some of us has answered the one ! That's kind of irrational, isn't it ? And it is this, the prevalent supposition that everything emotional would conduct a value more superior than say, a harshly articulated, though reasonably understandable opinion, that is leading this diebate to a mere pie-fest between some of the combatants. Let's try to adults, instead.

I´ve been thinking, what if Israel put Gazans to work, to build houses, farms ans supervise them while doing so?Otherwise,Mitchel or no Mitchel, terrorist will continue to get fortunes from the UN and others and Gazans will go on starving and being used as human shields.Terrorists, no matter the freeze of settlements wil continue to fire rockets. The UN should force them to work and to build in Gaza several ways of earning a decent way of living.Or else, the war will start again.

AGAIN.ISRAEL´S FIRST CONDITION MUST BE THAT ALL TERRORISTS SHOULD INVEST THEIR FORTUNES IN MAKING GAZA A REGION, WITH HOUSES, FARMS , AND DECENT WAYS OF EARNING GAZAN´S LIVES.GAZAN NEED TO GET RID OF TERRORISTS TO BECOME NORMAL PEOPLE LEADING NORMAL LIVES.MITCHELL SHOULD GO HOME IN PEACE.NOBODY NEEDS HIM.LIKEWISE NOBODY NEEDED CARTER.HE GOT ARAB MONEY FUELED INTO HIS POCKETS.WHO NEEDS A MEDIATOR?WHO NEEDS THE UN?.ALL ARE FAKES SEEKING FOR MONEY.YOU FAKES, SHOW US YOUR GOOD-WILL AND STOP TERRORISTS,IRAN,ETC.FIRST WE NEED EVIDENCES.THEN WE CAN DISCUSS-ISRAEL HAS ITS DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS AS A STATE-

You should keep on settlement construction, and get rid of the mosque in Jerusalem. and make it clear with no exceptions that the Jews are here to stay forever . There is no deals to be had, be at peace with us ,and we will be at peace with you. Build your own land. end of discussion. We will help you. we will help you to build, with humanitarian aid, with an outstretched hand. You will only cause yourself harm ,if you keep trying to have your way in Israel.

We Americans subsidize Israel. Israel would not exist without US support. We routinely shoot ourselves in the foot for Israel. If we say the settlements stop, the settlements stop. Obama is no dummy. He will not be wrapped around Israel's little finger, as was the previous occupant of the White House. If Netanwhathisname wants to spit in the President's face, he can go ahead. But he and Israel will have to deal with the consequences.

Susan #75, careful with phrases like "what if Israel put Gazans to work" and "supervise them while doing so". People might think you want to put "Work shall make you free" over the gates to Gaza. The whole idea of one race controlling another race and the natural resentment at being so controlled is at the heart of Jewish history and is also the current situation for Palestinians. Trying to perpetuate such a control situation is not a solution that will lead to peace.

Barbara, Canadian Army Base, Wednesday Feb. 11,2009 "The right place at the right time." After 911, my husband John spoke to some of the Muslim leaders who were dancing in the streets in downtown Ottawa. (seen on TV) He told them that this had to stop and they should speak out against terror. He asked them whether they were here to kill us and should we teach our youth how to tear out their throats? Later that week, John saw some of the men he had spoken to, in the crowd on TV saying that 911 was wrong. So speak out and make the truth known.

Sally - U.S.A.: Daran, I'm not trying to double team against you with Mike, but I do want to bring up couple of points with you & this seems like a good time. Many times you ask people questions or their opinion & most of the time, they answer you. But when the shoe is on the other foot, you don't. Second, you misstate facts & will not admit to it. Everyone makes fact misstakes; I know I have. But you insist on agruing facts when there is nothing to argue. In my opinion, it doesn't show cleverness; it just shows an inability to engage in discussion. If you are a friend of Israel, shouldn't that be your concern
