In the days that have passed since I leaned that the meeting was somewhat better than I thought (I didn't think it was terrible to begin with, as some of my colleagues did). Anyway - what I say in this short paragraph refers mostly to the delay in the scheduling of the meeting: The triumphant tone of Jerusalem's officials - claiming they had "won" the settlement-freeze battle, whispering that the Americans have "learned" a lesson, boasting that they "stood up" to the popular President - is not making Washingtonian officials happy. And it also makes it so much more complicated with the Palestinian leadership. That is really the key to every American move on the peace process in the coming weeks. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stunned the White House with her careless statement last week, calling Israel's settlement concessions "unprecedented". She made it even more difficult for the Obama team to make nice with Mr Abbas. And since Mr Obama can't punish Mrs Clinton, he punishes Mr Netanyahu. The battle with Mr Obama has made Bibi more popular, not less. His shoulders should be strong enough by now to bear the burden of trying to bring Mr Abbas back to the table. And the Economist is quite harsh with Abbas: So where does that leave the 74-year-old Mr Abbas? Though his opponents, both Israeli and Palestinian, should take much of the blame, the fact is that, as a leader, he has failed. He is a ditherer. He wobbled feebly over whether to endorse a recent controversial report by Richard Goldstone on the Gaza war. Perhaps worst of all, he fluffed a chance, near the end of Ehud Olmert's Israeli prime ministership earlier this year, to grasp Israel's best offer so far, albeit privately mooted when Mr Olmert was on his way out. Had Mr Abbas said yes, it might have been hard for a future Israeli government to back out.

And why should we be so eager to bring Abbas back to the negotiating table? Aside from the propaganda value (look, the charade continues!) no sane person expects any result from further talks. Abbas is a dead man walking, he is so irrelevent as to be an object of ridicule. The comedy act of elections then no elections, I'm quitting (for the 10th time) - please talk me into staying, his mistrust of Fayyad, & his belligerent public statements, the impossibility of any agreement with Hamas - please, the ''peace process'' has gone from being a charade to a farce.

So Abbas has climbed up a tree & can't figure out how to get down, there he is, twisting in the wind. And who helped him to climb the tree? Obama. And rather than admit his blunder, his inept handling of the settlement issue, Obama & his amateur-hour team expect Netanyahu to pay the price. Well, if I were Netanyahu, I wouldn't. Anyway, the Netanyahu/Obama meeting was about Iran. Netanyahu's visit to Sarkozy is about Iran. They were NOT talking about Syria or the moribund peace process, except perhaps in passing, a kind of, ''oh, & by the way .....'' Iran is THE issue.

The ''peace process'' (talk about something being mislabeled, Orwellian news speak) has become like a vaudeville show with politicians calling for the show to go on. But the comedy act has become stale, boring. surreal. Many in the audience applaud out of habit, between yawns, others are fast asleep. Everyone knows that vaudeville is bankrupt, going out of business. And the main investor is wondering - should he throw more money down the toilet, should he pull out & cut his losses, or should he just try to keep up appearances & hope business picks up.

Terry. In Toronto there is a hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. They haven't won the Stanlehy Cup (NHL Championship), since 1967. Typically when there down by four goals in a game and they then get a goal themselves, the sellout (corporate) crowds starts chanting: "Go Leafa Go!" Reminds me of the peace process.

Obama, the EU, and people like Rahm Emanuel, and Livni are nothing more than Pied Pipers leading Israel to war. They say "peace in our time!" Sounds good, but what kind of peace and what is it built on? Answer--Israel forced to give everything away except west Jerusalem. No wall, no west bank, no more settlements, 1.6 million arabs in Israel proper, and limited access to Temple Mount! It's easy to see why the world doesn't support Israel- muslim oil! This whole Peace Talk mess doesn't have a snowball's hope in hell of being resolved. The majority of crimes against humanity are now being perpetrated by Islamic jihadists. Jihadists cannot abide the existence of an Israeli state. The US could send 1,000 diplomats to talk peace. It is not going to happen. Pick up a Bible; read Ezekiel, Daniel and Revelation. It's like reading today's news headlines , yet these books were written 1,000's of years ago. The Bible also tells us that the only person who will bring peace to the ME is Jesus Christ, in the will of G-d Almighty. So be it.

Well, last Palestinian leader who could make any concessions (and live) was Yasser Arafat. Abbas can't give meaningful concessions - he has to stick with '67 borders. As soon as peace deal is signed, Lebanon (and probably Syria) would send folks from refugee camps to West Bank. Oil rich Arabs are happier to feed Palestinians in refugee camps then give them own citizenship. EU does not take refugees. So, unless Israel find some good idea (ethnic cleansing not included), situation won't change few more decades. By which time Jews in USA will be mostly assimilated and AIPAC will lose power.

He walked away from everything he said he wanted at Camp David & pissed off Clinton by doing so. Immediately thereafter he started the intifada. Earlier this year Prex. Asad of the PALS did the same thing with the offer made by Olmert. Seems to me the world would awaken from its drugged dreams of a "M.E. PEACE" & recognize what the Arabs are doing. I guess the pipe gets in the way of the reality.

Jerusalem is won back from Olmert.
