The Israel Factor panel might be wrong. Its members predict that the US government isn't going to deal directly with Hamas, but this prediction was collected from the panelists prior to recent revelations in the LAT according to which the Obama administration "has opened the door a crack to engagement with the militant group Hamas" (the LAT reports that "the administration has asked Congress for minor changes in U.S. law that would permit aid to continue flowing to Palestinians in the event Hamas-backed officials become part of a unified Palestinian government"). Generally speaking, the panel of eight Israeli experts was not shocked or utterly upset by many of the initial moves taken by the new team regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The panel believes that selecting former Senator George Mitchell to be special envoy was reasonable, and isn't surprised to see Obama sticking to the good-old Road Map and Annapolis. Some of the panelists aren't quite happy about it, but even those panelists can't say it was unexpected. Take a look, the number on the left is the average mark on a scale of 1 (terrible) to 5 (fantastic). I added a U for unanimous decision, and S for split decision:
It's also interesting to note that the panel is relatively unimpressed
by the war of words over the viability and desirability of the Two State
Solution idea. While Netanyahu insists on refraining from publicly voice his
commitment to the TSS, and Obama insists on publicly recommitting the US to the
TSS - hence raising speculation of possible confrontation over this issue when
the two leaders meet next month - the panel sees no such confrontation. Not

Obama is clever to ask Congress to approve $800 million going to a hypothetical Hamas-Fatah government even when Hamas does not give in and accept the internationally-recognized state of Israel. When Congress votes "NO" Obama can earn points with the Muslim world by pointing out he tried--- but the realites do not permit US support for terrorist Hamas dedicated to the destruction of the state of Israel. So then he can ask others in the region to pressure Hamas, to call for new elections, to stop supporting terrorism, and even --surprise of surprise -- recognize Israel right now.

I think the great question is, what does Israel want? The Palistinians are at your mercy. You have the full support of the United States. What do you want to do about the problem? Yes ,I am just a Goy in the eyes of silly orthadox Jews, but for many Israelis and much of the rest of the world it is the irrational religious zealots that are the problem. A 2 state solution based on a roll back of the borders defined by the 1947 UN resolution with the Jewish homeland holding 55% of Palestine is still unjust to the Palestinians but at least is a measure of justice. Calling me names doesn`t change the facts. ie Israel has carried out an official policy of ethnic cleansing for 60 yrs and there is NO religious basis for modern Israel just propaganda.

Israel MUST have a leader with the courage to clearly and unequivocally REJECT the two state Final Solution.
