Rosner's Domain: End to the bluster that have characterized U.S.-Israel relations?

Here's a paragraph from a new article I wrote for The New Republic:

On the most basic level, this September meeting is indeed an "important step" for the peace process. If there's no talking, there can be no progress. And even though real progress toward the coveted "final status agreement" seems unlikely--both American and Israeli officials understand that differences in position between the two sides are probably too wide to abridge at this point in time--talks can still be valuable, at least for reducing tensions and avoiding misunderstandings.

But perhaps more importantly, the agreement of all sides to meet signals an end to the antagonism and bluster that have characterized U.S.-Israel relations since the beginning of Obama's term. Netanyahu has essentially agreed to some formula of settlement freeze. Obama's peace envoy, George Mitchell, has accepted the de-facto reality under which Jerusalem can't be part of any freeze agreement. (The Americans seem satisfied with quiet "understandings" regarding Jerusalem.) And Abbas has accepted the invitation to New York, even though he insisted just days ago that no negotiations will take place until there is "a halt to all forms of settlement activity without exception in Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied territories."

What ''peace process''???? I guess Rosner is talking about the make-believe charade in which politicians pretend that something is actually happening & can thus congratulate themselves on all the ''progress'' thay are making while journalists write nonsense about non-existent ''movement'' towards ''peace'' - this is like a biologist talking about finally locating unicorns, chimeras, & flying pigs. In reality, all politicians care about is the ''process'' - this is all a cynical game. And the game must go on even though no one really expects results. Blah, blah, blah, & more blah, blah, blah ..

Maybe biologists will make a flying pig? I wonder if it will be kosher?

Here is the blunt reality. Western politicians don't give a sh*t about our interests or even our survival. Half of them probably think the creation of Israel was a mistake & the other half just wishes we would disappear because we complicate their foreign policy. They don't care much about the Palestinians either but they do care about appeasing the Arab & Muslim world. The Arab world, at least the regimes, don't care about the Palestinians either. But they would like to see an end to us & anti-Israel & anti-Western positions serve their interest.

There is no peace process. We are told time and time again by Hamas by Fatah by the PA, that they cannot countenance a Jewish state among them. The so-called peace process is for political careers; it is not for peace.

We just love these never ending important steps for the peace process,Israel gives in and in and in,the palestinians say that it is just not enough, the Americans start squeeze us again, and we give in some more again and again.Isn't it about time that we told them to go and eff themselves. At this rate we will end up living on rafts on the Mediterranean Sea.

Thanks to Netanyahu Israel has been pushed further than ever before. Arab demands had increased accordingly. How the hell, does it contribute to the peace deal?
7  |  Terry - Eilat, Israel, Monday Aug 31, 2009
If anyone in the West were serious about a ''peace process'' then why would they be supporting Abbas & his Fatah crooks? Isn't it perfectly obvious that Fatah is an obstacle to any agreement? After the recent Bethlehem Fatah Jamboree, this is even more obvious than before. Can we doubt the bad intentions of all those who support a Palestinian terror state or at least question their lack of judgement & hopelessly gullible & naive assumptions? What will be the first order of business of a Palestinian state? It will be military alliances with all our enemies, including Iran.

A future Palestinian state will have two short-term goals. Their first priority will be to undermine the Jordanian regime. They know Jordan is Palestine & so does Abdallah. That's why he's purging Palestinians from his military & from gov't. & cancelling the citizenship of Palestinians. The second Palestinian project will be to promote irredentism among Israeli Arabs, to create an intifada within Israel. This intifada will be disguised with lots of BS liberal rhetoric but the goal will be to undermine completely the Jewish nature of the state.
9  |  Terry - Eilat, Israel, Monday Aug 31, 2009
Rosner says (with a straight face), ''this is an important step for the peace process..." & later, talks about ''progress'' - but the differences between us & the Palestinians are irreconcilble so what progress will talks lead to? Unless you define progress as losing, we have nothing to gain in talking to Palestinians. When every possible outcome means you lose, it's time to change the game. But our leadership is not up to any game change & that is now obvious. Netanyahu has started playing the same old losing game, looking over his shoulder (Left shoulder) to avoid snipers ......

Is there an end to the bluster (i.e. incompetence) that has charaterized this U.S. administration? NO. Obama still tries to force Zelayda down Hondorus's throat (see WSJ's O'Grady article), gives an inane response to the Lockerbie Bomber release, awards Mary Robinson the 2009 Presidential Metal of Freedom, despite his nauseating Cairo Speech, bowing to a despot & the Saudis's no to any recognition of Israel - still maintains building an extra bathroom is an inpetiment to peace. While he is at it, he has Dennis Ross check out Netanyahu for flaws to arm twist Israel to submission to his plans.
11  |  Sally - U.S.A., Monday Aug 31, 2009
Obama has not changed - he is just going into his Bait & Switch mode. But because of Obama's incompetent actions, Abbas has stated that he does not have to do anything. After 15 years & billions of dollars being poured into the PA, the murder & terror, if they cannot say the simple words that they recognize Israel as a Jewish state, what are they going to talk about? Whether Abbas & Fayad need more Shin Bet guards?
12  |  Liz London UK, Monday Aug 31, 2009
David, I think it's not really Netanyahu that's to blame here, it's Obama, who's rhetoric has encouraged the Pals to be more obdurate. Today's statement from Abbas about setlement freeze including E Jerusalem is just the most recent in a long list since Obama spoke. Israel has to seem to play the 'game', always with her eyes open and looking out for the knife in her back from the anti Israelis at home and abroad.

I do not understand why Israel would want East Jerusalem. Let the one million Arabs who prefer to live in a Palestinian State do so. Israel gives free college education and medical care to the Arabs and they do not have to serve in the IDF. Israel can take the money spent on Arabs who prefer to live under someone elses authority use it to benefit Jewish Israelis. Most of these Arabs do not recognize Israel as a Jewish State or sing Hatikvah and they are not loyal to the State, so let them leave to be ruled by Mohammed Abbas. It would be the best thing that ever happened to Israel.

Why all the fuss about the Peace Process progressing. There will be activity in Foreign relations that will lead to nothing. Buildingwill go on in a somewhat curtailed manner, but continue nevertheless. Israels Economy will probably recover before the US's, which may never recover with any strength. There will be Blah,Blah for months before any non written aggreement even is presented. Meanwhile Israel will quietly build. Come 2010 there will be mid term elections. The dems and Obama will undoubtedly suffer sever losses as nothing in his administration will have been accomplished. Part 2
16  |  Leonard Eisenstein Florida, USA, Monday Aug 31, 2009
Part 2... His Foreign Policy will have collapsed on all fronts. His far left left will be attacking him for sending more troops to Afghanistan, which he will have to do, or surrender completely. If he forces a strictly Dem Health Care Bill through without a single Republican vote, it will not go into effect till 2013. By that time there will be a Republican President and both houses may fall back into Republican controll. One thing about our Government is that nothing is forever. Republicans can rescend any damage the Dems have done and the country will return to its roots.

To Terry from Israel Sadly, you have it exactly correct. Their demonic goals of destroying the nation of Israel is their top priority! In fact, as you state..a Palestinian nation would be supported from Iran et al to attack Israel. Your post No 8 is scary. I never thought that the Israeli arabs would become active in terrorizing Israel. That' s a huge problem...even today, I would imagine. And your comment on Jordan is interesting. Yes Jordan has had big problems with Palestinians. They threw the PLO and Arafat out. King Abdullah getting rid of Pali's in his millitary tells us a lot!

OK - back to the "quiet" peace process with "quiet" understandings. Guess what is needed is an Intifade III to build a little fire underneath all that nice "quiet"and shake things up a bit.

What Peace Process???? What Abbas negotiations? He said no to Olmert for everything including NYC and now we learn Miami too! No settlement freeze in the land that is LEGALLY the Jewish Peoples.

#18 David Guess what is needed is an Intifada to build a little fire beneath all that nice quiet and shake things up a bit.............David if Intifada's are so great why not have them in the states you have soldiers dying in Iraq, and Afghanistan, your economy is shot to hell, you owe your soul to the Chinese, and Obama has the cheek to tell Israel what to do,What we need is someone who is strong, and has balls of Titanium that have high temperature-stability,to tell Obama to fix his own backyard first.

People, why do we let ourselves drawn in this endless blah-blah ? Politicians do not want any peace, just discussions, and the journalists have to write each day something...

Mike Feldman, Canada: #54 Duncan Lennox. Curious hypothetical for you to quote. In all your previous blogs you denied that the Battle of Jericho per the Book of Joshua ever happened. Now you quote results of attitudes towards the battle. I'm looking forward to your review of the movie "2012, now playing in a theater near you.
Mike Feldman, Canada: #22. Let me give you what may appear to be a facetious contradiction to your post. Let's say my religion advocates killing my daughter because she wants to change her religion? Does that mean that I am not subject to secular punishment? The separation of Church and State was devised so that the state could not legislate religion. It was never intended to place religion above the common laws whcih are intended to protect the human rights of the citizens.
