Rosner's Domain: Don't call me an anti-Semite!Posted by SHMUEL ROSNER
Comments: 242 Follow Rosner's Domain on Twitter! / Join me on Facebook Eric Fingerhut writes: In fact, the whole Wieseltier-Sullivan episode has served to illustrate an emerging trend among critics of Israel: Their eagerness to allege that they've been accused of being an anti-Semite. I do agree that some of Israel's defenders are too quick to throw out charges of anti-Semitism or "self-hating Jew," and that's lamentable and a problem. But it seems that among many of Israel's critics, claiming that you've been accused of being an anti-Semite has become some sort of bizarre badge of honor. And quite a few of those that have allegedly been accused of being an anti-Semite, according to Wieseltier's critics, either were never smeared with such a term or were only accused of making a specific problematic remark and not tarred with some broad brush of disliking Jews, as they claim.

You're gonna get plenty of action with this subject. My experience on this site it that "anti-Semite" is now used as a pre-emptive strike by, well, anti-Semites. For they lob anti-Jewish bombs from all directions, including character assassination, and a percieved knowledge of how Jews think and act, Then they distort the realities between Israel and her neighbours. Finally, they declare that their feelings do not make them anti-Semitic, but they know they will be called anti-Semitic, which I guess, is the final slur that Jews cannot rationally analyse what they're reading. For me, the quack test is suffient. I hope all you anti-Semtics ducks caught that.

Mike, you are funny.

Thanks Sally. I must admit that I meant the first word of my second sentence to be "First", not "For." I sure hope Sandra Eisenstadt doesn't see my post. She'd probably call me a right wing fanatic and give me heckers for my grammar.

HI ROSNER, I AM YOUR PERUVAIN FRIEND, IN HAITI IN THE UN, NOW, WHATEVE, I HAVE THINK THAT YOU ISRAELIS ARE MISUNDERSTANDING CONTEMPOREANENAN WORLD. WHEN I WAS A KID THE JEWISH SUFFERING WAS PART OF MY EDUCATION, AS AN EXAMPLE OF HUMANITIES WRONGNESSS, BUT NOW YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT PALESTINE BECAUSE IT IS PART OF KIDS EDUCATION'S IN LATINAMERICA ABOUT HUMANITIES WRONGNESS. SO, PLEASE WAKE UP, NOBODY INTELLIGENT IS ANTISEMITE, BUT NOBODY INTELLIGENT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE TO GET OUT OF GAZA AND THE WEST BANK AN JERUSALEM EAST. YES, THAT IS THE PRICE. SO WHAT?

#1 Mike Feldman. Hi Mike. Do you think that all anti-Semites know that they're anti-Semites? You can hold a variety of anti-Semitic beliefs & still maintain that you like Jews (just not the Zionist kind), that you even support a safe & secure Israel. You know I come from an Arab country - all my friends were anti-Semites but few would just come out & say they hated Jews & wanted all Jews killed. But, nonetheless, they held very anti-Semitic beliefs, much of it religiously derived. Western leftists & some Jews are no different in my opinion.
7 | Terry - Eilat, Israel, Thursday Feb 18, 2010
So, what makes a belief anti-Semitic? Well, if you hold Israel (and Jews) to an impossibly high standard of behavior, totally unrealistic, a standard that no one else on earth is expected to maintain, while all the while, totally ignoring or down-playing the actions of our enemies, that is anti-Semitic. This is not just the double-standard at play, it goes much deeper & it leads to the demonization of Israel & Jews, to the de-legitimization of our national existence. It also means that every action we take in our self-defense is illegitimate.

By the way, Mike, this is how I see liberals in general & Jews for ''peace'' in particular. This is a paraphrase from something I read somewhere but can no longer remember exactly where but it stuck in my mind as being most appropriate. It goes, ''It serves no purpose for SHEEP to pass resolutions supporting VEGETARIANISM if the WOLVES are of a different opinion.''

I don't think there are any antisemites left. One can give comfort and support to groups who regard killing Jews as a religious obligation. One can recycle medieval libels about organ stealing, poisoning the wells, secretly controlling - well, everything. One can simultaneously deny the Holocaust and then accuse Jews of acting like Nazis. One can accuse every Jewish, near Jewish or possibly Jewish politician of treason, placing the Jews over the country they are sworn to defend. No matter what one does or says you mustn't be accused of antisemitism.

I think many right-wing groups have lost their mind and are endangering Israel by accusing anyone of being antisemitic these days. I think it gives a terrible image of Israel when these groups accuse widely respected personnalities such as president Carter or Mary Robinson of being antisemitic, because people in the US or Europe find the accusation ludicrous. I've heard some Americans say that "Israelis are hysterical" because they did not realize the people speaking against Carter were from extremist groups and did not represent the Israeli society.

Interesting: To every "SABRA"ite, WE[i] have 1-thing-in-Common; "The-ROCK" to Magnify, Uphold & Make Honorable, not only by example but by DEED(s) {Mitzvah}. Heck, even the Great Persian Amelechking, CYRUS {pbuh} "..From the other-Side of the Euphrates/Tigris", but aZoroastrian {1st Mono-Theo Faith at Mesopotamia/Semite Country, of Which Jews Borowed forChumash/Basorah [yes!?]} always pledged(Daily-24/7) 1: Think Good (unlike Semite-Ayatolahs) ,2: Speak Good (unlike their semite- Amadmanofjihad), Do Good (unlike Saudi's self hating Semite A.R. al Sudail). Soo; There's NO SUCH THING AS A-SEMiTE!

Terry. Not only do I agree, but let's look at a case in point. Blog #5, Alejandro, begins his post by referring to himself as Roosner's friend. There is absolutely no overt anti-Semitism in his post and he feels he is offering constructive advice to Israel. His basic premise is that nobody actually dislikes Jews, they just dislike Jews viz a viz the Palestinians. He doesn't seem to know we're not in Gaza. More importantly, to me, it shows the ease there is for centering out Jews for special criticism and contempt. Regardless of one's feelings about the Middle East, it ignores the suppression, CONT

Mike Feldman. Part 2. and crimes against its citizens that is the norm with the other governments in the region. It ignores the posts which complain of dual allegiance of American Jews, the Jewish "influence" in Washington. the blame of the Jews for international financial calamities and the general "nature" of Jews. The point that I believe Alejandro is missing is its become virtually a genetic disposition to view Jews unfavourably. Therefore, any excuse provides justification that the individual is correct in their disapproval. I'd like to know of one other group who attracks hair trigger condemnation,

#10. Ania. Did you win a contest for who could pick the worst two exsamples of people who are not anti-Semitic? You can qualifty to be an anti-Semitc with actions. It does not require the uttereing of anti-Semitic words. If you know of some pro-Semitic actions by your examples, I'd love to see them.

Last COMMENTARY: Dear ANiA, et al: Yes, i[WE] agree. The Pot calling Kettle Black is obviously abused when it comes to 'Finger Pointing"{w/out Middle Finger} &or 'Scape-Goating' {w/out the Bahrrrr noise}. Yest on the other hand; when it comes to the "QUEER"-Nationals {Int'l 'GAY' Ummah} they will always, as a Shield, vehemently hurl the word "BIGOT" against anyBODY w/out using AntiSmearSemite. That's understandable, sort of. Yet on the Other hand, in 'Common Law' the word "MENS REA", aka "GUILTY-MIND" is as huilty as SiN! & this apply's to anyBODY. & Faggetabout antiSmeariting any "JUDEO..."

Sorry Ania. Carter is without question an antisemite in addition to being an idiot and the worst US president in the last 100 years.
18 | Alan, Thursday Feb 18, 2010
Ania,
Ahhh, here we go. "Right Wing Groups" the good old accusation surfaces...and then you go on to say "widely respected personalities (by the way, do learn how to spell as that is typical of your type*) such as President Carter or Mary Robinson of being anti-Semitic"...
BECAUSE THEY ARE, HONEY! What proof do you require? Carter's nonstop lies?
You are indeed a typical Leftard spewing the usual nonsense about the abhorrent behavior that these people - *and you share. Yes, you do belong in the category of either being an anti-semite or a self hater when you defend the indefensible.

The increase in anti-semitism is documented fact, not opinion. Fact: Saudi Arabia has been bombing inside Yemen territory and killing many civilians for the past 3 or 4 months. Has the UN or anyone else condemned them? The Taliban has been using human shields in Afghanistan this week, and planted mines throughout the town. Have they been accused of human rights crimes? The US military has killed quite a few civilians in Pakistan with drones. I don't see front page stories, day after day, calling for war crimes tribunals. Only Israelis are constantly impugned. Even Livni faces jail. Case closed

Hi Alenadro - Thanks you comments they are very sincere. unfortunately the reality is not whether there will be a Palenstinian state..It is whole charter & agenda of the Islamic world and that is the destruction of Israel..and further to that dangerous idealology is Islam to own & control the world..Another truth the land does not belong to the Palenstinians..Their history homeland is the Aegean Sea so let's ask the island in the Aegean if they are willing to take back their own people..While Israel has made more efforts towards Peace thany any nation..A 2 state solution will never happen..
21 | Ilia, Thursday Feb 18, 2010
#10 Ania. I almost agree with you. There is no use to call Jimmy Carter antisemitic. It is quite enough to call him an "old fool". This characteristic often implies antisemitism, but not always. It suits him better, as being a fool is much more than just being antisemitic.

#19 Ronald USA. A better example is that of the Sri Lanka gov't. against the Tamil Tigers. If anyone doesn't remember the particulars, just google it up. It made headlines for a few days, then was forgotten. The Sri Lanka gov't. did the right thing, in my opinion, despite the collateral damage to civilians. But, where are the human rights groups, where is the UN, where is that slime-ball Goldstone when you need him? No one, not one country on Earth, gets the scrutiny that Israel gets, no country in the world has it's legitimacy questioned, no one suffers from such a one-sided narrative.

Thoughts and rationalizations that include an anti Jewish ingredient can range from the hatred of a Nazi to the simple ingrained minor prejudice of an otherwise fine person. Where it comes to Israel, with all the historical evidence and current proof that between the sides there is a clear cut distinction between right and wrong, between good and evil, between those who manifest a desire for coexistence and those who would kill, I believe absolutely that where a "neutral" takes sides with the Arabs, where one criticizes Israel unfairly, there is always there some degree of anti Semitism.
25 | Phil, Thursday Feb 18, 2010
There are no consequences to being an antisemite. Pat Buchanan and Mel Gibson are unrepentent and working. Try to make disgusting statements about other minorities and see how long you'd be working. At the same time, those Jewish antisemites who wish Israel's destruction are still teaching in some of American, European, and Israeli universities, spewing their poison to impressionable students.
26 | Sonny USA, Thursday Feb 18, 2010
Look in an idea world hate would not exist. So if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck; guess what! Its not a monkey. I listen to the debate and I have heard some pretty Anti-Semitic comments, rushes to judgment by people who have lost their objectivity and historical perspective of the events and issues surrounding Israels existence and creation. God knows the Jews have suffered enough and need a homeland to protect them from the evils of the world. I guess for some thats to much to ask for.
27 | Ania, Thursday Feb 18, 2010
When I read some people's comments, I suddenly realize why my friends in the USA are embarrassed to tell other friends they've been vacationning in Israel.recently. Extremism is a stain on the image of Israel and betrays the soul of the country. Criticizing Israel does not mean that people are "antisemite". How can people be dumb enough to distort the grave meaning of these word? I'm afraid that there will come a day when, because of irresponsible far right-wingers, people in Europe will think antisemitism is not a grave thing.
