Rosner's Domain: Clinton wanted Netanyahu to kick Arad out of their meetingPosted by SHMUEL ROSNER
Comments: 50 Laura Rozen reports: Clinton wanted Netanyahu to kick Uzi Arad out of their meeting: [W]hen Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Netanyahu at the King David Hotel earlier this month, such was the concern that a certain former Mossad analyst who now serves as Netanyahu's security advisor may pose a counterintelligence problem that, after conferring with an aide, Clinton suggested to Netanyahu that they reduce the number of people in the room.... Arad has been unable to get a U.S. visa for the past two years, he has suggested, because he was identified in a 2005 indictment (though not by name) as one of the Israelis who met with then-Pentagon Iran specialist Larry Franklin. Franklin pled guilty in 2005 on charges related to unauthorized disclosure of national-security information to people not authorized to receive it, including officials with the Israeli government. Clinton's suggestion was made, sources say, in the hopes that Netanyahu would get the message and excuse Arad from the meeting. What happened instead, sources report, was that Netanyahu dismissed from the meeting Israeli ambassador to Washington Sallai Meridor, who has since announced his resignation. (An account of the meeting previously published on ForeignPolicy.com revealed that Clinton seemed remarkably constrained and tight-lipped during it.) U.S. officials knowledgeable about the meeting declined to comment about the incident but did not deny that Arad's presence at the meeting was a concern to the U.S. delegation. This story is far from over...
1 | Jean - Georgia, Thursday Mar 26, 2009
I would be interested in your take on what and why this happened? I suspect that Bibi doesn't want Mr.Meridor because he has something to do with Zionism and wants to bring more Jews into Israel, or perhaps they just don't get along, so this was done to insult Mr. Meridor into resigning. Either way, it appears that Mr. Meridor handled it with a certain amount of dignity. Am I close, or offbase? The only good thing I see is that Hillbama 'remained tightlipped throughout the meeting', and perhaps Bibi developing some guts?
2 | Dan USA, Friday Mar 27, 2009
By all means, the US should give visa's to Israeli's suspected of espionage, and Bibi should show gumption and backbone by promoting them to important posts. And Lieberman wants to trade military technology with Russia. This relationship is headed for a train wreck.
3 | Steve, Friday Mar 27, 2009
Clinton should just stop the aid to Israel. Israel thinks they are the boss using our weopens and surviving on our aid. The only problem is Israeli lobby in washington. We need to be patient. Our politicians are corrupt but the vast majority of Americans are patriotic. They don't like Israel first and America last. The day will come when the lobbies influence is going to be reduced significantly.
4 | Jon from Paris, Friday Mar 27, 2009
Netanyahu only gains in stature if he has advisers who understand what they advising about. Hope that Mrs Clinton went home with a pack of DVDs of Israeli films, preferably in a bag identifying them as having been bought in a shop in Moscow.
5 | Amnon, the Great AMERICAN Southwest, Friday Mar 27, 2009
Thanks, Bibi, for standing firm. We have the most gutless, most pathetic, most cowardly, most Islamofascist administration in American History, a regime led by an inexperienced, bigoted, stupid coward, a regime that befriends the enemies of this country and spits on its allies. It's time to stand up to them - and hopefully we will wake up and throw the damn lot of them out sooner than 4 years - before they destroy you - and us.
6 | Glen, Phoenix, Friday Mar 27, 2009
"This story is far from over..." Damn right it's not. This is a test of Bibi's, and Israel's, determination to stand on its own two feet and confront the Obama administration when necessary. If this story is true, Bibi, has made a promising start.
7 | Not Jewish USA, Friday Mar 27, 2009
You don't always get what you wannie. Bibi ignoring Clinton's brash and rude demand should make Israeli's proud.
8 | Loyal Arthur, Miami, Florida USA, Friday Mar 27, 2009
I hope Bibi told Hillbama that Israel will not be forced into giving up Jerusalem or settlements that belong on the Israeli side of any future border with a palestinian entity. I also hope he told her that it is not "helpful" for the US to tell Israel how to operate its municipalities and local zoning laws. I also hope he told her Israel will not be coerced into releasing murderers for a kidnapped Israeli kid. I also hope he told her that, before the USA tells Israel how to run its affairs, the USA should stop trying to become the new United States of Socialist Republics.
9 | Mel USA, Friday Mar 27, 2009
Mel - USA Good job Bibi. Hang tough with the Obama administration. If they can roll over you they will. Present a strong image to your backers in the USA.
This christian man warns Israel beware of the charlantan in the White House. He will back door you.
10 | Loyal Arthur, Miami, Florida USA, Friday Mar 27, 2009
Bibi is no fool. He knew what Hillbama wanted. His message, she was not running the audience she was getting with him. Recall that he won his leadership role. She did not win her position. Imagine if Bibi came into the White House and told Obama that one of his Brezhinski/Carter clones should be removed from the room. It is a normal practice for ambassadors to resign when new administrations begin. The new leaders have the right to appoint their own ambassadorial staff to other nations. So, Mr. Meridor's resignation was not the product of his being embarrassed in this meeting.
11 | Lee - USA, Friday Mar 27, 2009
#3 Steve, you just pray for the day to come when us Jews leave the US too..don't you? Your bigotry and hatred for Israel does not make you a US patriot. It makes you a bigot and hater.

Nothing can bring barry and hill to heel like the threat of Israel cooperating militarily and technologically with the Russians, Chinese, Indians, hell even the French!
You're either with us or you're against us America; now we'll see who our REAL FRIENDS are!

From http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/15/world/middleeast/15mideast.html?scp=1&sq=Uzi%20arad&st=cse
Correction: October 18, 2007
An article on Monday about the refusal of Israeli officials to confirm or deny a report in The Times that the IAF had bombed a Syrian facility on Sept. 6 overstated the conclusion Israeli and American intelligence analysts had drawn about the target. The article also misstated the background of Uzi Arad, the national security adviser under former PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who said it was plausible that a nuclear reactor had been bombed. Uzi lies at night with Snoopy.

Laura Rozen as usual vilifies Israelis based upon reliable sources and a tendency to be far from objective and rather creative in her articles for Mother Jones, The Guardian, the LA Times and other "objective" publications. Hillary knows the game. The request was probably made by a Foggy Bottom assigned CIA, NEA, DEA ETC deliberating trying to embarrass both Hillary and Bibi, If it even occurred. Ambassadors usually present their resignations when governments change.
16 | alex, atlanta, Friday Mar 27, 2009
It is a shame that Bibi kick out anybody on Clinton's request. It is high time to stop take any help from USA. Israel can buy much better and cheaper military hardware from many countries and supplement it with its own unmatched electronics. This will advance Israeli industry and they will become independent from USA who always betrays friends and panders to enemies, particularly Muslims. American government always betrayed Jews and wants Israel to disappear. Read http://www.hirhome.com/israel/interview_argument.htm , Abandonment of Jews by Wyman, Secret War agaisnt Jews by Loftus and Arons.

Bibi, choose for your advisors the best of the crop. If Uzi Arad fits the bill, then he is the man. Be courteous to Hillary and to the Americans, but stay firm with regards to Israel's interests. They do come first. Bibi and Uzi, we are with you.
18 | Daniel-Atlanta, Friday Mar 27, 2009
Thanks, Hillary, for calling Israel's hand. Israel must actually be a partner with the U.S., not just sloganize about it with an outstreched hand. Obama and Clinton are publicly committed to a strong and secure Israel, but should not have to compromise American interests to achieve that goal.
19 | Susan, USA, Friday Mar 27, 2009
The fact that Franklin shouldn't even be in prison -- that he pled guilty not because he'd done anything wrong, but because they got him on a bunch of nonsense mishandling-of-paperwork, then threatened his family, his sick wife, his five kids and their tuition -- this is just more dirty, unfinished business left over from the Bush administration. We have two innocent lobbyists sitting indicted while the judge says there's no case, and there's a loyal American sitting in jail for the "crime" of doing his job too well. Arad's only crime is in embarassing the US by bringing light to this.
20 | Nechama, NJ, USA, Friday Mar 27, 2009
First of all, most of US aid to Israel is used to buy US weapons so the money returns to US. Secondly, keeping your most reliable ally in the region safe, is to US benefit. Secondly, why is it that US only believes they can bully Israel? Do you ever hear Clinton, Obama or US press demanding what hamas & fatah must do for peace? Why is it only in terms of what Israel must sacrifice for peace to benefit the very terrorists who continue to swear to destroy her? Can someone please explain the logic.
21 | Lily, Tucson, Friday Mar 27, 2009
Bibi is Israel's new Prime Minister, it is HIS decision as to who should be included at his meetings, especially on Israeli territory. Former President Clinton's pressure on Israel is well documented, and ended in failure. We learned bitterly from it and his wife should have taken this into account. She has previous knowledge of the relationship between the two countries, which the new US President totally lacks, and should use better judgment. Israel must remain the master of its own destiny. So far, things do not look promising.
22 | Phil USA, Friday Mar 27, 2009
Just my opinion. I have a number of friends who are secular Zionists and strong supporter if Israel. They out their money where their mouths are and after Natanyahu was picked to form a government they all expressed fear for the continuation of the state of Israel.
Question for you all. Why was the meeting in the King David Hotel. "Bibi" was Banned from the state department years ago when he was in Washington and from the White House also. The meeting place in Israel suggests that he is also not welcome in the U.S. Embassy in Israel either.
I fear for Israeil also
23 | Jordan Ariel, Friday Mar 27, 2009
Steve... just so you know, America also benefits from Israeli developed weapons and technology. There's a lot of countries using our (american) aid, egypt being an example.

either you are ignorant or stupid or a jew hater or all the above thinking that Israel is surviving on your annual $ 3 billion handout. Just to remind you that israel's gdp is about $185 billions and gdp per capita about $ 28,000. May be in a not so distant future you'll be needing a handout from them for a change

Israel's very existence might well be at stake because of the Iran's threat and when Israel tries to obtain what was certainly ONLY US military intelligence on Iran's nuclear abilities (which the US should have already fully supplied Israel with, on purely moral grounds, if no other) then Mrs Clinton displays resentment because some formal intelligence-confidentiality clause might have been violated! Almost as if the Pentagon official who tried to help was a traitor! Woe is the great US if it treats its best friend this way (and Britain going astray, Israel is just that) in time of need!

Hillary is a big disappointment to us. We thought that she had some substance, but she shows only that she will obey Obama's naif wishes, and will not keep her prior promises. Hillary said a lot of friendly things to and about Jews in order to get elected as a senator from New York. All of those nice things, however, were flushed down her toilet after she lost her bid to become president-- though they were given as "sincere" promises-- and Hillary no longer wishes to remember them. Our memory of Hillary will last longer than her memory of promising to boost Israel and be a friend to Jews.

Israel needs to trust the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob instead of the USA's Larry(hil-larry), Moe(mitchell), and Curly(Obama) a.ka. the Three Stooges --slapstick comedians.

Steve,
Just how is the goosestepping these days? And by the way, how's your Uncle Adolf. You should join him, you know, you and the rest of the Jew-baiters.
By the way, the 22% of Jews who voted for McCain are much more patriotic and pro-America than you'll ever be, roach ant. Or your equally obnoxious neo-Fascist buddies. We love Israel because it does share American values. The day America ends its relationship with its closest ally is the day we go downhill.
But then again, Fascist idiots like you would never get that in a million years. Just sub Ahmedinejedad for Bibi..Or Osama.
39 | Amnon, the Great AMERICAN Southwest, Saturday Mar 28, 2009
P.S.
And by the way, Steverino, you're not patriotic and neither are any of your stormfront.org meets moveon.org by a million years. The real patriots are those who serve this nation, and the majority of whom know damn well Israel is an ally. Unlike the Osama lovers like yourself. They're America First and Israel First...Not goosestep for Hamas or for those who love to kill Americans, as the Neo-Nazi Left and the Islamohitlerites are.

I like Netanyahu! He has natured; he knows how to handle people like Hillary. I just hope that Israel has the guts to tell the world to go to hell when it comes to the 2-state solution. The EU is already threatening Israel with bad relations if Bibi does not go along with the imposed peace. The OHB & Hillary will try to impose an unjust peace on Israel. That is why all the bad PR came out of the Gaza operation, to put Israel at a disadvantage at the negotiating table. Peace negotiations are the time of the back stabbing politicians, who eat and drink at the expense of the taxpayer.
41 | Rebecca, Saturday Mar 28, 2009
#'s 4,5,6 You are so correct.
#'s 2 & 3 You are idiots. I can't even find the correct words for your ignorant comments. They show you are still drinking the Obama kool-aid. There are many more in the USA that are finally getting fed up with your kind and will vote out Obama and his ilk in 2012 and some sooner in 2010. Count on it.
42 | Michael (USA), Sunday Mar 29, 2009
I am an American, and I first want to assure Israeli readers that not all Americans are against Jews. Though, it is apparent that the presidents over the last 20 years, have betrayed the interests of Israel. The current administration is no different. These people wish to separate Jerusalem, and refuse to acknowledge the palestinian lie. Palestinians have a homeland, it is Lebanon. Please, do not accept the satanic compromise, trading land for peace. You have God-fearing friends here in America who understand why you cannot give up covenant land. Do not relent, and do not yield.
43 | Jean - Georgia, Sunday Mar 29, 2009
I was under the impression that Israeli Intelligence was more accurate & thorough than U.S. Or maybe, U.S. intelligence tainted by people that don't like Israel. For example, last year's NIA estimate of Iran's nuclear capability-even with what little I know, I was sure it was doctored. Israel can't rely on America- too many uninformed here, like those who complain about the little bit of aid that we send to Israel. Much, much more goes to Arab countries with no strings. (See#20) Hey, you can choose to side with Israel's enemies, but it won't save your liberal butts when they come here
44 | Greg Garrison Riverside, CA. USA, Sunday Mar 29, 2009
I hope this is true because for to long I have seen and heard Netanyahu come on American tv and talk tough only to see him later give in.
I am an American and proud veteran of our Army, I am also a proud Jew.
Yes its true Israel needs America but Netanyahu needs to let this current American administration know that Israel's existence will never be compromised and its place as the Jewish homeland will never be in question.
Its time current Israeli leaders grow a pair and tell Obama and Hillary "You can talk to all the Arabs you want but Israel and Jerusalem are Jewish today, tomorrow, always.

Frankly, it's a pleasure to read so many positive and knowledgeable people's comments for a change.
I suggest, if people are interested in what transpired during Bush 43 ,especially how the Liberal left and Liberal Republicans undermined him and his efforts to fight the enemy as was his original track after 9-11,read "The Failure Factory" by Bill Gertz. The blog,TheGatheringStorm.com has an interesting award recipient this week that reveals the jihadist infiltration into the Administration. They went after Larry Franklin, because they thought he was Jewish.19 is right and 20.It was odd that many

that were targeted by the Justice Dept were Iranian experts.See Bolton's and Douglas Feith's books as well. 5,6,and13 all have very good points. Carl Bernstein, who took 7 years to write Hillary's bio and who supported her, said in an interview during the election, that the one thing about which he was dubious about her is she is incapable of telling the Truth, or being honest. That's quite something. Her
closest "friend" is a young Saudi woman while the biggest donors to Bill are the Saudis, remember.
Israel is going to have to be careful of the US.This is the worst Administration since Carter.

Who knows, what's better? Sure, it's good to show dignity and independence. But otherwise it does not hirt to be a diplomat, still have valuable advisor in next room and please powerfull, as they said pretty short fused and long memory ally?
If one read Hillary characteristics by her own people, he'd like to avoid avoidable contadictions.
Otherwise, it was not only Mr. N dignity, but dignity of the country protected well.

the problem is obama has been slapping around bibi for the last month, he barred arad for being a traitor, he embarrased israeli top military by not allowing him to meet with anybody important , leaving him in the waitoing room only to be told all prominent administration members were "busy" and sent him home 3 days early..........he knows the vast majority of americans are anti israel/anti jew so he knows these moves will guarantee him a reelection.
