An early supporter of Obama's (and also an early supporter of J Street), he will head something called the Center for Middle East Peace. And while his move can be analyzed and re-analyzed I really think this will not be of much importance. Wexler will soon discover that life as a thinktanker can't give one the voice and the stature one gets as Congressman. And if his goal is to try and help Obama with the Jewish community as some have speculated, he might discover that (a.) the Jewish doesn't need much proding as it already supports Obama (and b.) that Obama himself had become more realistic about goals that can be achieved thus needs less help. #2 Jen. Actually Gallup has Obama at 53% appoval. What's 3% among friends? Quinnipiac has him at 50%, and the Real Clear Politics average of all the major polls is 52.6%. Not into quibbling but positive number fudging always seems to favor the guy we're for, and exaggerating of the negatives are always applied to the guy we're not for. George W. Bush's favorables were about the same as Obama's are now in November 2004, the end of his first term. Obama's favorables are about the same as his election night percentage of the popular vote. There is no ringing endorsement to be found here, and we're still waiting for change we can believe in.

Wexler has no real interest in Israel -he is intersted in advancing his own well being. His reelection was in doubt. There is no Republican leadership contest at this time, so there is no opponent to measure. Another poll shows that 48% of Americans view the economy as the number one priority, while 13% think that health care is the most important issue. There is a growing disconnect between what Obama thinks is important, and what the people want. On issue after issue there is no accomplishment to be noted. I can't see anything on the horizon that will make his numbers rise.

Is the drive for health care reform not part of the solution for American economy, I heard it said that health care costs in the US causes auto makers to add up to $1000 to price. That the federal systems no one of note wishes to remove are running deficits. As for fixing the economy, even the low-ball fudged estimates of the cost of health care reform is a trillion dollars. This is money that isn't there. The plan calls for increased costs now for insurance that will be available in 2013. You cannot provide better health care to more people without increasing the number of doctors. Yet the plan wil fine doctors who are found to over budget care for the patients they see. Cost of care will be evaluated on the basis of useful life years remaining. If you're a fan of politicians deciding what treatment and drugs you will receive, the plan is great. But the large majority of Americans prefer the plan they have.
