Rosner's Domain: A new PM is coming, and we weren't paying attentionPosted by SHMUEL ROSNER
Comments: 54 Follow Rosner's Domain on Twitter!!! If you want to know why David Ignatius probably needs to learn more about Israel and soon, read this sentence: The administration is already talking with Ehud Barak, the Labor Party
leader and defense minister, who might form a new government if
Netanyahu falls. Barak might form a new govenment? Anything we should know about? Because last I heard, Barak is he guy with barely-13-mandates in the Knesset (but one needs to be fair: the rest of his article is quite good, especially this sentense: "The Obama team is assuming that if it can pressure Israel into a real settlements freeze, the Arabs will respond with meaningful moves toward normalization of relations -- which will give Israel some tangible benefits for its concessions. But that hope appears to be misplaced"). Follow Rosner's Domain on Twitter!!!

The clear message is that (as we already knew), Obama & Co are meddling in Israel's politics to the point of arranging who is in the Government, and doing so with a high probability of success. With the practice gained in doing so, perhaps the Administration will reconsider its expressed decision not to meddle also in the politics of Iran, which would be a much more rewarding goal than pushing out Netanyahu.
2 | andy-london, Monday Jun 29, 2009
Is this the same barak that offered arafat half of jerusalem,if so you can be sure obama and the "poor palistinians " will think "gotcha,"now we'll press for all of jerusalem and he'd give it to them .Israel would be wise to keep these labour clowns out and keep netanyahu and leiberman[ who will not sell Israel down the river] in control. These leaders KNOW that the suicide brigade would reduce ANY place given to them to rubble as they couldn't live in the 21st century with life loving people as all they know is kill, kill, kill and chaos wherever they reside.
3 | daniela Doron, Monday Jun 29, 2009
How sad for Israel that one like Obama can influence and bribe a man like Ehud Barrack. I hope he learned his lesson from his past errors of judgment and stand behind Bibi. The world is watching waiting to se whether Israel is strong enough to oppose Obama. weakness is not an option for Israel.
A warning for all who rely on America, no matter who is president Israel will be dropped like hot potato the moment the white-house no longer needs Israel.
Israel should seek alliance with the Saudis, Egypt, and Jordan and leave-out Obama and company then others will join, the ME fill flourish.
4 | Terry - Eilat, Israel, Monday Jun 29, 2009
The fact of the matter is that our dysfunctional political system causes us to have weak gov't.'s & the Americans know this & use it against us. A creep like Barak should not be in any gov't. but Netanyahu wanted a stable coalition, the "national unity'' BS. And, our opportunistic politicians always take the bait, their careers being ever-so-much-more important than the national interest. Every Israeli PM is pulled left, by coalition partners, by fear of criticism from a left-wing media, & by foreign pressure.
5 | Terry - Eilat, Israel, Monday Jun 29, 2009
And this movement towards the Left is always presented as ''pragmatic'' - although I fail to see how committing suicide could in any way be evidence of pragmatism. Can anyone doubt that Barak is a stooge for America? That he is a shameless opportunist? That he has zigged & zagged more than any politician I have ever seen? That he has always misrepresented his position on every issue?
As for Netanyahu, he is a politician & what has most marked him is his failed time as a former PM. His entire focus is on preventing that from happening again, no matter what.
6 | Terry - Eilat, Israel, Monday Jun 29, 2009
In the meantime, the Obama administration is desperate for some kind of foreign policy success, any success, because everything they have done is a fiasco. Obama is failing right & left (literally) - he is fast becoming Jimmy Obama the Carter-clone. Some really funny photo-shop images combining Obama with Carter are making the rounds already. Criticism of Obama is mounting by the day even with fawning media cover-ups of his blunders. His policy re: Israel has already alienated everyone here, Obama has zero credibility in Israel but it hasn't helped him in the Muslim world either.
7 | Rozz - presently on the move (travelling), Monday Jun 29, 2009
The meddling idiotic Ehud Barrack needs putting in place very sharply before the arabs take control of ALL of Israel. As for the meeting between Barrack and America's Hussein Obama, just sit back and watch how the two idiots together smash up all Israel stands for. Why is that fat slob Barrack even in the Israeli Government? I can't stomach that idiots face.
8 | Chris USA, Monday Jun 29, 2009
Wadda'ya mean! He's jes'a shmuck for Ol'bama. Arabs already showed they can play'im twice to sundays 'cause he's gullible.
9 | Terry - Eilat, Israel, Monday Jun 29, 2009
No one seriously believe that Barak could become PM - that is just laughable. And I think both Barak & Netanyahu want to use each other but that doesn't discount the influence Leftward by Barak on the Netanyahu gov't. Barak has always been a bungler, a serial bungler. I defy anyone to show me even one successful policy that Barak supported. But being a major failure has few costs in Israeli politics. You have only to look at Shimon Peres to know this is true.
10 | Terry - Eilat, Israel, Monday Jun 29, 2009
Any concessions or freeze on settlement construction would be a major blunder. We would, in effect, be saying that any construction beyond the Green Line including Jerusalem is illegitimate. Are we accepting the Green Line as our border with some ficticious Palestinian state? And any fool knows that this will not be the last concession. Demands upon us will be endless until we are ''concessioned'' out of existence. Even more disconcerting is that NOTHING is being asked of the Palestinians. They are waiting for Obama to present them a state on a silver platter.
11 | Nadav Northern California, Monday Jun 29, 2009
Unfortunately Obama's policy seems to be to talk and discuss without preconditions with everyone including Syria, Venezuela, Iran. He seems open to discuss with Christians, Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims, everyone except, the Jewish state alone (other than some pirates off the coast of Somalia). What a shock. Our US president somehow seems to know what the Jews must do, but no one else. Old hat. We have seen it before. Talk about a foreign policy blunder!
12 | yochanan,Dimona, Monday Jun 29, 2009
I have been a left votrer for years and i will always be that way but here in Israel,I have started voting for Bibi, because the left wants to give away to much.Ilove our contry and think that Yerusalem should be undevided. And of course whe must have defensible borders. It is also time that sombody should point out that whe are not an like S.Africa was bit the palestianans are.AS for the setlr\ers if they dont want to leave I have no problem with that, let rhem stay where they are and live under palistinian rule....
13 | Trumpeldor,eurabyiah, Monday Jun 29, 2009
Does anyone here know another country where foreign influence would be openly used againt a democratically elected government ????
14 | Ted USA, Monday Jun 29, 2009
In the USA our muslim president is taking over our private industry, our financial system, our medical system, everything as fast as he can, pushing us into a completely left fascist government. At the same time he is doing the same thing to you by dictating to a sovereign nation that they should give up land and possession just because the nice muslim said to. When you look at the total picture this guy is evil. There is nothing the intelligent Americans can do about it because Oprah,Hollywood and the brain dead liberals here in the US call him their savior. Resist him brothers
15 | Ross, Texas, Monday Jun 29, 2009
Ted, the American people have decided. No more American blood for Israel. Period.
You can babble about "Muslim" President as long as you want...but the truth is that We have decided to be free from Jewish bullying. America belongs to the American people not International bankers.
16 | Mike Feldman, Canada, Monday Jun 29, 2009
Right on Ross. The only problem is that with your new Presdent the America that belongs to the American people will soon be filing Chapter 11. Guess Obama will come cap in hand to the international bankers for a bail out. I'm sure his new friends in the Middle East will be happy to float the loan at great rates with no strings.
17 | Tzvi/amerikkka, Monday Jun 29, 2009
Israel has been in Yehuda and Shomron for 40+ years. Why havent the know it alls that run israel found a way to get the arabs to leave?
Because israel is run by bribe taking spies and traitors that want to destroy the Jewish people and turn israel into palestine
18 | Isaac, Malibu USA, Monday Jun 29, 2009
To Ross from Texas # 15,
What a moron are you? what American blood? The Israelis' gave their blood for the whole world including the USA, when they kept the M.E. clean from terrorist and islamofashists.
Israel does not need the US anymore..(with Muslim OBAMA). There is China, India and of course RUSSIA..haha. BTW, good luck Ross with your moron President.....in 3 1/2 years he is a goner!
19 | Bernard Ross, jamaica, Monday Jun 29, 2009
The Israeli left conspires with obama to nullify the elections which expressed the will of the Israeli people. Mossad should look into the birth certificate issue of Obama, which is portrayed by his supporters as a nutcake issue. It is a real issue. Obama is a true enemy of the Jewish people who surrounded himself with rabid anti semites(Wright, al mansour, farakhan) and anti israel jewish leftists(rahm emmanuel)
20 | Joan USA, Monday Jun 29, 2009
To #15 Ross,Texas: You DO NOT speak for the AMERICAN PEOPLE. You are speaking for a group of anti-Jewish, pro-obama people.
Most true Americans stand with Israel, always have and always will in spite of this one term TOTUS.
God has said whoever blesses Israel shall be blessed but whoever curses her, shall be cursed.
He also said you will know them by their fruits, and obama's fruit is rotten.
21 | sk, Monday Jun 29, 2009
Yeah, Ross, "Jewish bullying"! America will just join its natural friends and allies, the Saudis--you know, the ones who supplied the majority of the 9/11 attackers (oops! I forgot that this was orchestrated by the Joos!).
Are you sure your name isn't Ahmed?
22 | Hater of apartheid, Monday Jun 29, 2009
andy london..you are being incoherent....overly irate...mindlessly nervous...Are Muslims unsettling you that much? Besides, you should come to terms with the fact...No American blood for Israel. Period.
try to get yourself accustomed to this reality. No more American blood for Israel.
23 | skydiver, Monday Jun 29, 2009
Sk, I am not sure that the Arabs did it. Israel was the only benficiary.
we should try to connect the dots.
24 | ross, Texas., Monday Jun 29, 2009
Joan, the ugly Zionist.
Obam is the President of the United States of America. He was elected by the people of the United States. He is responsible and answerable to the peopel of the United States.
He ain't answerbel to Jewish thugs or AIPAC or this arrogant midget Netanyahu.
Ya' see Take your ugly Netanyahu and shove it,
America is not a Jewish colony.

Good stuff here. Of course. Things are not that complicated. They never were. Except if you have a problem understanding the psychological underpinnings of anti-judaism, which is what Owbama and most of the western world does when singling out Israel, while kissinng mega-genocidal states like China and Russia on all lips.
But please: SPELL SENTENCE WITH A C. It would add to your credibility...
27 | Mike Feldman, Canada, Monday Jun 29, 2009
skydiver-must have landed on your head during last jump. Ross, Joan is a very pretty Zionist. Why insult her? I'm sure you haven't met, Joan doesn't attend KKK meetngs. Ross you seem to be obsessed with "ugly". Is you pretty?

Ummmm. Hes just asking for a settlement freeze, you know, not a collective jewish harakiri. bYou folks are so hysterical, you make UFO fanatics of the 90s look sane. "Obama is antichrist!". Yay. The settlements are after all illegal, and Israel has already promised to stop their expansion. But I guess that your promises count as nothing before G-d?

First of all, "sentence" not "sentense." Proving that we all make mistakes. The US needs to be ready for Bibi's fall. Just as it will then need to be ready for the fall of the next government. Not to be prepared is folly. I simply don't believe charges of "meddling" by the US, or by President Obama. He has enough messes to sort out. And laying aside the race related comments, as well as those done by people who don't know where the caps lock key is located, I agree fully that it is Israel who needs to do political housekeeping, and rid itself of weak small party governments year upon year.

38 | David W. Lincoln, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Tuesday Jun 30, 2009
As long as the rearrangement of the blocs in the European Parliament affect only financial matters, it will
take something else for those who pay more than lip service to the premise that words have meanings (unlike the current occupant in the Oval Office who concludes that the meanings words have, are what he wants them to have), and to hold those who follow in the path of the original "Sons of Allah" as Orianna Fallaci called them, accountable for practising Judenrein.
As long as tribalism is the calling card of those who are not Jews in the greater Mid East, more trouble
ahead is what I see

Barak has always been bribable. in the 2000 elections, with Yitzhak Herzog's assistance, Barak created fictitious and illegal NGOs (amutot). President Clinton diverted funds to these NGOs to get Barak elected. Barak will sell out to anybody for money. He and Herzog should be in prison, but since they are leftists, they are not charged. Barak's new game is to work with Obama and the Israeli Left to undermine PM Netanyahu. Barak, the shrewd and cunning man that he is, has no honor at all and he will find a way to make money out of the episode.
41 | ron, australia, Tuesday Jun 30, 2009
Obama cannot stand up to N Korea and Iran. He will find that scapegoating Israel will backfire and his foreign policies will be in shambles. Israel has to hold out, keep expanding natural growth and watch Obama get humiliated which he deserves. Evangelicals stand behind Israel.

What they, the Obama administration wants is a tobe, a little stooge to call their own. Ehud Barack and Livni are just the toads needed to betray Israel. Yes I said betray! These individuals will put their own self interests ahead of the security of the nation. They will prosper in their ways until the entire Islamic world comes knocking on your doors. Then they will disappear back to their masters in the EU and America and you, well whoever's left will have come out of a holocaust worse than that of the 2nd world war. And why will your enemies come knocking 1. Jew season. 2. Oil.

Bannister-Are you saying that the U.S. is going to man up and overthrow the Iranian leadership? Is Bush coming back until the mission is accomplshed? Ron. The Israelis can easily outwait Obama. Recent polls in the territories show Hamas losing popular support and sharing blame equally with israe for no peace settlement. Israel has no motivation to try to do business with these guys and Obama doesn't have the clout to force the issue. He too is losing ground and has returned to the 52% level he was at on election day. Soon he will be obsessed with internal events. Better he should lean on OPEC
47 | American, Tuesday Jun 30, 2009
Obama is shrewd. He has a 60% approval rating. He wouldn't be leaning on the pressure if he didn't think he had support. There is 25% of the population that is strongly against him. There feelings wouldn't change regardless. Many are fundamentalist Christians with their own agenda for the Middle East that is not subject to debate. Most Americans are sick of this issue and although only 9% call themselves pro Palestanian a majority wouldn't mind more pressure on Israel to accept more responsibility for a 2 state solution. It is not just the left who are upset with Gaza and internal politics.
48 | Mike Feldman, Canada, Tuesday Jun 30, 2009
American: I'll bet that most Americans are sick of North Korea and endlessly playing the bribe them and maybe they'll be good game. I'll bet that most Americans don't think that Iran is going to roll over to American "pressure" and give up their nuclear weapons program. In both cases these countries are playing the U.S. and its Western counterparts like a fiddle. So I don't think how the left, right or center of the American political mindset thinks is going to have much effect on Gaza and internal politics. One thing that the shrewd Obama will do is prove that U.S. influence has diminished.
49 | mircea - Canada, Wednesday Jul 01, 2009
60% approval.
Approval of the mob...
What a fool.
50 | Annie, Wednesday Jul 01, 2009
Yo Feldman, the happy Canook and sensible one, too: You are right about we Americans and the No. 47 American is Obama-dreaming. Approval of Obama's policies is declining steadily and it is definitely not a small percentage of hard core Christians that oppose him. Many independent Americans who voted for Obama are sadly regretting their vote now. The president is inexperienced and so are most of his appointees, just as President Sarkozy explained. I hope Israel can stand on her own and I don't blame her if she looks for new friends.
51 | Sandy, Tulsa, Wednesday Jul 01, 2009
Mike Feldman, It is Israel's influence in America that is diminishing, not America's influence in the world. And you only have yourselves to blame.
You behaved arrogantly, even criminally. You murdered, you stole, you lied. You even disregarded your own laws. You followed a policy based on deception, cheating, subterfuge, and prevarication.
Frankly, we are fed up with Israel. My views are not minority views. Many people share them.
52 | JERRY BORIS PHILA PENNA., Wednesday Jul 01, 2009
AS BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA FALLS APART IN AMERICAN POLLS, FOLLOWING HIS FALTERING MARXIST ECONOMIC FAILURES, WHY WOULD ISRAEL YIELD ON ISRAELI HOUSING AS IF HUSSEIN OBAMA WERE ON A WINNING ROLL? HE IS A LOSER, AND AS TIME PROCEEDS, TI WILL BECOME OBVIOUS INCREASINGLY. HIS ECONOMIC POLICIES ARE RIGHT OUT OF TH MARXIST RULE BOOK AND ARE ALREADY FAILING. THIS IS THE TIME FOR BIBI TO TREAD WATER, NTO TO YIELD TO ENEMY, AND SAUDI FRIEND, GEORGE MITCHELL.
53 | Roland Berger, Wednesday Jul 01, 2009
No need to worry.Barak may be liked in the USA,but is very unpopular in Israel, and is in Israel where an Israeli PM is elected, usually. Besides,in line with the exceptional "successes" of Obama's foreign policy since he was elected, Barak becoming Israel's next PM will remain just another wishfull thinking....
54 | Mike Feldman, Canada, Wednesday Jul 01, 2009
Thanks Annie. I'll go one step further. Soon you'll see posts calling me a racist. Farthest from the truth. However Onama is the äccidental" president. He ran at a perfect time for Americans to relieve their collective guiltt and elect an affirmative action president. He ran against a man who might have made a good President 8 years ago. If any other inexperienced candidate had his past associations he never wold have got out of the primaries. Sandy America''s role on the world affairs is not exactly pristine. Israel is not the only country that can live without Obama's guidance.
