Israel-US ties

In the run-up to the 2008 US presidential elections, The Jerusalem Post Internet Edition JPost.com has invited central presidential contenders to respond to questions on matters of importance to Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world.

We will be sending out questions to the candidates every two weeks or so. We started out with a relatively general inquiry about the importance they attach to the US's strategic alliance with Israel and how, if elected, they would work to foster that alliance (see below). The questions will get more specific as the campaign heats up.

What's the importance of Israel as a strategic ally and how would your administration manage ties between the two countries?

donald keith manka: bush has turned his back on israel about 4 years ago. trying to trade peace for land the got the land and israel never got the peace. when but stopped the war and started the police action as far as i was conserned no more bush. when bush turned his back on israel then he also turned his back on GOD. and now we are paying for bush turning his back on israel and the jewish people and god. i love god but i also love israel and the jewish people and i will never turn my back on israel and the jewish people amen/shalom

House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003, serving as a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, as Vice-Chairman of the Government Reform Committee, and as a member of the Committee on Financial Services. He now runs a consulting firm, Liberty Strategies LLC, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia and with offices in the Washington, D.C. area. At this date, June 8, Barack Obama is looking like a marxist and John McCain's record makes him look like a democrat.

Sherry, Las Vegas: Peggy Stevens, it's extremely difficult to understand the bible without being savvy in history and geography. Do not reference the bible unless you've truly been a student. If you really want to support and protect Isreal............then you are in the wrong territory.
