Point / Counterpoint: A tough talkback response Posted by Edwin Bennatan

Counterpoint to:
If the war in Gaza has produced a downpour of news reports, opinion pieces, op-eds, editorials, and other commentaries in the world media, the scale of comments cannot compare with the sheer inundation of talkback responses that have appeared on the international medias websites. A seasoned journalist told me yesterday that he had never seen anything like it in his 22 years in the profession. Here is one talkback response from a commenter identified as 'TheVoiceOfIsrael'.He responds to a Guardian editorial that bemoans Israel having "turned its back on global opinion" and which asks:
The editorial goes on to offer such ideas as sanctions against Israel and possibly even threats of war-crime tribunals against Israel's leaders. Here's the response:

Here's a another great talkback to today's (Jan 18, 2008) Observer Israel-bashing editorial. ------- "Weaselmeister, 18 Jan 09, 12:31am: When will Israel learn that the appropriate action to take is to have a stiff letter signed by academics no-one has ever heard of published in a liberal newspaper with a small circulation. It's the only language that people who want to wipe you off the face of the earth understand."

wow - amazing response - The world knows that they themselves are in fact very cruel to others, and they dont want to admit that at all. so they blame israel for thier own guilt.
we all know who the real NAZIs are, and we know that Israel is just in what they do. The Jews did not seek revenge for the killing of 6 million - but we will also NOT allow Jews to be killed by kassams or suicide bombers - for even 1 jewish life is sacred to us. while to the palestinians no life is sacred, especially not thier own.

The anger and frustration expressed in this article is perfectly understandable to the silent majority in many countries who share Israel's desire for peace and security in a country acknowledged as their own in the middle east . Thoughtful individuals throughout the world, although not expressing support through marches and slogans ( it is not our style) can be counted on,perhaps more than the writer realizes, to support Israel in any way we can, both now and in the future.

at last! a jewish voice worthy of its origin! too many jews have been trying to please the world of nonjews.too many jews wanting to justify their actions.too many jews ashamed of themselves.get out there and win, permanently--for god´s sake--become powerful and show it; then you can afford to be good! powerless virtue does not glean respect.

Further to TheVoiceOfIsrael, I doubt that there are many jews alive today who are not related to someone who died in the holocaust. Maybe when this happens to the majority of British citizens, they will understand Israel's dire need for survival. Jews make up a miniscule fraction of the world population and Israel a miniscule fraction of the world's land. Can't you just leave us alone?!

The guardian's biased editiorials and news reports makes me sick. But he's right on one thing, the global opinion is indeed against you.
It's not just the academics and journalists (though most of them are leftists and therefor against America and Israel).
So stop caring what Europe thinks of you. They weren't there for you when you needed them and apparently nothing has changed. Europe's a continent that hasn't seen a war in decades (not counting Eastern Europe), how can it possibly understand what your situation is like? It's always easy to judge when you're not involved.

Israel and Jews all over the world, you can be certain you have more supporters than you know, to put a slight twist to 2Kings6:16, "Those who are with [... you] are more than those who are with [... your detractors/enemies]". We may not be very demonstrative or vocal in the media sense, but we're actively supporting/defending you in other ways. So stand tall and God bless.

Outrage absolutely justified! You tell all those laser brains European intellectuals that thay're not siding with the weaker part of the contestants, as they like to think, they're actually siding with the stronger (Iran, Pakistan, etc) against a tiny country inhabited by a brave people who has taken its destiny, finally, in its own hands. If the Europeans really wanted to help they should try and convince the Palestinians to get rid of those useless fanatics who've actually kidnapped them, and start negotiating seriously. Israelis still have friends around the world, I'm one. Take care.

Only ligitimate action from Israil is "barbaric fanatic Islamic Hamas firing their rockets over the border into our towns" dont know which rockets u r telling about, if u r so concern of Israili border peoples security then install 'Anti missile Sheild" but Israil not is not going to do this because it cost to much, and Israil prefers losing lives then loosing money.... is that it...
As a pious Muslim I strogly condem Hamas firing the Rockets and many of muslims to around the world.

Israel has many powerful allies in the US that are able to shape policy to its benefit. However the fight for public opnion is being lost and I don't see how these allies can help. The death and suffering of the Palestinians is no longer ignored and although the Guardian is extreme in its condemnation the wave of world opinion is moving the same way. Ultimately it will restrain Israel in its need to punish those who fail to submit.

alemild,..........."Ultimately it will restrain Israel in it's need to punish those who fail to submit".......This is the kind of inane garbage that gets posted about Israel in the Guardian. The difference here is that you can counter these sorts of nonsense in the Jerusalem Post,If you did it in the Guardian, you most probably would get deleted. We should keep hammering at the Guardian and ultimately it will restrain the Guardian from becoming the Hamas Public Relations and Propaganda site.

We need millions of posters like the ....... Voice Of Israel.......posters that need to counter the deluge of amtisemitic and anti Zionist articles that flood the Eurabian media. It is about time that the Israeli government did something about this. There are millions of Jews and non-Jews that would that would gladly give their time free. All that is needed is someone to organize it.
