Bibi's Blog: A mandate for change Posted by Binyamin Netanyahu
Comments: 18
In the face of enormous challenges, Israel's current government is rudderless. I intend to lead the Likud party to victory in the next elections and address these challenges by moving our country in a new direction. To help make this happen, I hope that Likud voters will join in granting me a strong mandate for change by participating in the Likud primary tomorrow. First, our top priority must be to do everything in our power to prevent Iran from acquiring atomic weapons. Rather than waste time and resources mobilizing international support for a peace conference with Mahmoud Abbas, Israel's focus should be on mobilizing the international community to thwart Iran's nuclear ambitions. Given those ambitions, Iran's terror proxies Hamas and Hizbullah arming to the teeth and Syria beating the drums of war, we must ensure that we are prepared to meet any and every threat. Last summer's fiasco must not be repeated. That war, strategically misconceived and poorly managed, was brought about by a misguided policy of unilateral retreat. Ehud Barak's hasty flight from Lebanon and the foolish withdrawal from Gaza in the face of terror ensured that Hizbullah and Hamas filled the vacuum we left behind. After the war, it was thought that unilateralism would be shelved for good. It wasn't. THERE IS little difference between unilateral concessions and concessions made to an ineffectual partner. Are Israelis living in the center of the country, flying in and out of Ben-Gurion Airport, or traveling on our buses, willing to bet their lives on Abbas's assurances that his Fatah-led Palestinian Authority will prevent rocket and other terror attacks? I think not. Rather than repeat the mistakes of the past by placing faith in magical solutions and phony rhetoric, Israelis must bring a fresh, clear-eyed approach to dealing with the Palestinians. We must make it clear that given what we have seen in Gaza and South Lebanon, territorial concessions do not bring peace but terror closer to our cities. The past few years have shown that any land we handed over to the Palestinians has been taken over by militant Muslims who fire rockets at our cities. After turning Gaza into an Iranian-sponsored terror base, the onus must be on the Palestinians to show that they are dedicated to building a civilized society and not just to destroying one. If they are serious about doing so, we will support their efforts. If not, we will not arm and finance those who would attack us. Second, Israel's strong economy must grow even stronger. Four years ago, with the help of my Likud colleagues, I was able to usher in sweeping economic reforms. By cutting spending and taxes, privatizing government companies, dramatically increasing investments in our national roads and railways, overhauling the government's pension system and transforming the capital markets, we placed the country on a path of high and sustainable growth with record foreign investment. But there is still so much that must be done, from further tax cuts to land reform. Continuing down the path of economic reform is critical to both our national security and social welfare. Israel's security needs over the next few years are enormous, and only a growing economy will provide the resources necessary to meet those needs. The security fence costs money. A missile defense system costs money. Wars cost money. A strong economy will better enable us to defend ourselves and more effectively defeat our enemies. So too, only policies that promote high growth, expand the labor force and lower unemployment will enable the government to provide for the truly needy. A FEW years ago, when I said that Israel could become one of the 10 highest per-capita income countries in the world, eyes rolled. No longer. Israel's economy is growing fast, but we have barely scratched the surface of our potential. With human capital that is second to none and economic reforms that we will enact, the sky is the limit. Yet to reach these heights, and at the same time provide an opportunity for all to get there, we must seriously reform the country's educational system. For too long, money has been pouring into an education bureaucracy and little has been coming out. We must change this by investing in those who are actually teaching our children. We must establish higher standards for teachers and attract and keep the best teachers by offering them much higher compensation. We must empower principles to reward good teachers and weed out bad ones. We must provide resources (again, by growing our economy) to reduce class sizes and lengthen school hours. And finally, rather than allowing the false propaganda of our enemies to seep into our school system under the guise of pluralism, we must insist that our children be taught a curriculum that will make them knowledgeable and proud of their country and their heritage. I believe that if we enact the comprehensive educational reforms I have proposed, within four years Israeli pupils will score in the top 10 internationally in math and science. These changes and more are within our grasp, beginning with tomorrow's vote. Likud members: Go out and vote so that, together, we can put this country on a path toward security, prosperity and, ultimately, peace.

When it comes to defense, don't mess around! Bring back the Israel that rolls over her enemies. Get rid of the one that accepts rocket barrages as a way of life. Your enemies no longer respect you, and that'll mean only more Israeli tears and blood.

With all due respect to a former PM of Israel, I think the best service you can do for the country is to quit politics, as you promised after your defeat by Barak in general elections. PM Sharon said you panick easily. I saw you on international TV saying the Saddam's Scud adventure over Tel-Aviv was similar to the WW2 Nazi Blitz (over London).Recently, you were terrified of your opponent for Likud Leadership and of the press. Most of your talk is old hat full of banalities - no plan no substance - you speak good English with an American accent, but this is not enough to make you a leader. Finally, are you a demagogue, a politician or just an opportunist with an insatiable lust for power. Please dont be afraid and give a courageous answer.

Quit politics? No. If these ideas are implemented, Israel can only grow stronger. I believe this is the future.

i am sure if we take care of iran, we will take care of 80 percent of problem in the world. but european do not want that to happen, because they do not like israel, secound they have a lot of investment in iran and arabic country. so take care of iranian government first.

What kind of Land reform? I know it is question of privatization. Many times, i asked Mr Netanyahu to explain what seems very dangerous to me. I never had an explanation from him, nor have read anything yet on this subject. It could alterate for ever the future of the Jewish State of Israel. For lack of explanation I don't think i could vote for the Likud at the next elections. Mr Netanyahu this is as important as economics, and maybe more. Please, write on this subject on this blog. Thank you.

the deficit reduction law (the main institutional mechanism to control fiscal outcomes) lacks credibility and stability.
(that is continual political/fractional/proportional interference, relationships between central-local government, lack of formal fiscal law, supervision of developing capital markets etc.) i could go on, no need to mention recent collapses, growth or lack of it in real wages, or rich-poor divide.
so any comments re the DRL?

Thank God for PM Netanyahu; he has the vision to see what Israel truly needs in these perilous days. He has been called for a time such as this. I also agree with John from the USA.

PM Netanyahu "gets it". The Left wing appeasers don't. The conflict with the Islamists is NOT territorial: it is Apocalyptic. The first step in their Prophecies to rule the world, the world wide Caliphate MUST be seated in Jerusalem. There are strong indications that Ahmedinejad really believes he is the 12th Imam, mandated to destroy Israel and its people and to initiate a confligration with the West.

I pray for the peace of Jerusalem every day. Olmert is one of the worst leaders Israel has had and he needs to go now before he makes things even worse. Giving away land for peace is utter nonsense, it has never worked and Gaza is now a fortified enemy state, that Israel has every right to strike down. All the land including Gaza, Westbank and the Golan belongs to Israel. G_d gave it to Abraham's descendents as an everlasting possession!!The Arabs are the illegal occupiers. I pray for a new leader, a strong one who is not afraid of the USA or the EU and the rest of the world, but one who will have a steel backbone and not a cotton string, a lion who will strike back at Hamas and Hezbollah and subdue them. The longer Israel waits and has these so called "peace talks" the worse the situation becomes and the stronger its enemies are getting. Something needs to be done now and can there be new elections soon, to get rid of those leftist liberals who want to give away the store?
May the Lord watch over His people and protect them from all harm.
Shalom melachem!!

It is easy for Americans, who are many thousands of miles away, to encourage Israel to compromise with her enemies, but, First - in the Bible, God gave the land to Israel; not to Palestineans, and secondly - we do not have rockets and bombs striking us daily like you do. Be strong and very courageous, Mr. Netanyahu. We support you!

Bibi, You have to win the next election and stay in power by sticking to your principals. No more Hebron Accord type deals and no statehood for Arab refugees in Israel. Stick to the original Mandate for a Jewish Palestine west of the Jordan river (July 1922). You can do it !!!.

Mr. Netanyahu, I have been following you through Pastor John Hagee for over ten years. I know that you are God's man for Israel. I have been praying, and will continue to pray for you to Be Re-elected Prime Minister. I know that you will not compromise....I know you will stand strong and not give Israel's land away. I continue to also pray for Israel to take GAZA back.
I trust you. Thank you for standing strong, while many others are "wimping out."
I was taught as a tiny child to love the Jewish People. My family has always been supportive of Israel and the Jewish People.

Former PM Benymin Netanyahu:
First, I want you to know that when you were PM I believed your methods would lead to certain war. I WAS WRONG AND YOU WERE CORRECT! The giveaway of Gaza and its aftermath proved you correct! Israel must never again negotiate loss of its land! As for Abbas, you were correct, again. He is Arafat with different clothing but the same purpose, vis a vis destroy Israel!
Olmert must be driven out of office as soon as possible, before he gives away anything else. It Is Up To You, Mr. PM.

Mr. Netanyahu,
I believe you listen to Gods leading and know His word for this day from revelation. Stand for Us All, We stand with you in prayer and faith!!!!

No Security Fence Needed ! Annex the West Bank- clean out all terrorists, including PA authority, Abbas, and WAQF. Install Israeli police everywhere, as well as IDF forces. Make all residents swear allegiance to Israel, or leave. Then build and settle where you wish.
But most importantly - - - Get rid of Olmert and his cronies before they give away Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria.
