Peace Now! What a great concept. Instant peace in return for, well, an Utopian existence where everybody beats their Kassams into ploughshares in the Garden of Eden. Just add diplomacy, add a little Joseph factor (sell your brothers) and a dash of cut your nose off to spite your face.

Perfect. Now we can all sleep at night.

I was surprised, no, - amazed, to read that at a recent 'peace immediately' demonstration, there were very few people from the South. You would have thought that those guys, being pounded by missiles, going through the trauma that you and I couldn't even imagine, would be screaming for peace. But no, the demonstrators were mainly made up of middle class Israelis from Tel Aviv. Extraordinary!

They are not under threat, yet they braved a cold night to demand peace now. What selfless people they are. Meanwhile the people under fire in Sderot, Beersheva, Ashkelon, Netivot, Kiryat Gat, Ashdod and all the surrounding towns, villages and kibbutzim as well as the North, were screaming just the opposite. They also want a 'Now' solution, but it doesn't seem to be Peace, well not in the short term.

Immediate peace would involve hurried diplomacy, painful Israeli concessions, total withdrawal from land, and the transfer of thousands of Israeli citizens. Hang on a second. Now I may have a short memory, but didn't Israel do that?

What happened? I wonder if you can remind me. That's right we withdrew from Gaza, transferred 8000 Israelis many of whom are still not settled, watched Hamas be 'democratically' installed as the 'government' of Gaza, and then what? Oh yes, they kidnapped an Israeli soldier, they have dug many tunnels to smuggle weapons into their kingdom and have been fired firing thousands of missiles into Israel ever since. Who could ask for a better peace?

You do understand that Israel cannot just sit idly by while they are being shelled, of course you don't? So when Israel tried to force Hamas to stop the shelling, 'blockading' Gaza, they intensified their attack with Kassams and Grads, because after all that's a legitimate response to Israeli aggression. And as for the people, well the humanitarian crisis is all Israel's fault because the Hamas death cult (you'll read that a lot about them, you didn't know they were? Well, now you do) are more interested in Israel's destruction than the fate of their loyal supporters.

How many 'peace very quickly', speedily in our days, supporters have visited Sderot, Netivot and the other Southern towns, in the past few days? Why did you hold your rally in Tel Aviv, are you scared? Of
course you're scared. Who wouldn't be, just ask the guys down South. But mainly I believe you are scared of admitting the truth! You would rather demonstrate from the safety of your comfortable back yard than face the screams of the children of Sderot. You would rather condemn your own people than admit the real problem. There is no quick fit fix solution. Either you are totally naïve or have no concept of the nature of the enemy, oh I'm sorry, the partner for peace.

Do the phrases, 'total destruction of Israel',  'drive them into the sea', 'more killings',  'Israel will burn', 'suicide bombers' and 'every Palestinian is a potential martyr', mean anything to you? It's your bloody house in Tel Aviv they are talking about! Not some illegal settlement outpost east of Hebron.

Now I am going to go out on a limb here and agree with you on one point. No one wants our sons and daughters to fight in a war. We would be inhuman to rejoice, as our neighbors do in, the deaths of their children, and for that I too would shout out Peace, but not Now. Just as in 1948, '67 and '73 we are fighting for our survival. The enemy is literally within. And we have to face them with strength courage and determination, not diplomacy and bits of paper because you know as well as I do that this enemy wants all or nothing and doesn't care to die trying.

Peace has to be lasting, and you cannot bring everlasting peace, now. In utopia just like the Garden of Eden, you need to do the weeding first, then the planting and finally eat the fruits, it never happens now.

This is the time for weeding. Every day I pray for peace but I know my history and I know that there is no such thing as 'peace now'.

So what is your thought on Obama's Peace Talks with Israel? I believe that this is riduculous. For 1 he wouldn't let anyone tell us that we have to give up Florida to Cuba or Texas to Mexico. Making Israel give up even an inch of her land we have great consequences that even he knows nothing about. There will come a day that Israel will be the Victor in this and the world will understand then how powerful God can really be. Not everyone in the US wants Israel to go through this at all. But for some who follow proficy we understand why. Israel is the only 1 who will show God's awesome Powers!

Ness, Indiana, if I change the word 'Israel 'for the word 'Palestine' -you sound like a Hamas supporter. From this point on, I am not talking to Ness because he is not worth talking to. I am not from either culture or religion. There can be only one God or none. If there is a god, then she is probably looking at all of us asking why we have not done the washing up. Pinhas' spear whistles above the head of every person in every nation, every day. We all have similar human aspirations, some prefer not to recognise this in order to provide the excuse for conflict greater than need be.

Great piece, Jeremy. Nail hit right on head.

Very true! It is time to start preparing for the next war. Very true! Now to prepare for the next inevitable war, of course proceeded by, terrorist attacks, and hostage taking, back-stabbing "by friends", and so on! To all those who would do harm to Israel, and to those that would sell out Israel to her enemies, your time will come. "As you sow' so shall ye reap!'
5  |   ari, arizona, usa, Friday Jan 09, 2009
If Obama goes against Israel, then it will be the end of the USA. G'd is on Israel's side.

I have been surprised at the constraint Israel has demonstrated under the endless rocket attacks from Hamas taking place for years. Now it seems that the response is considered by some, Carter, for example, to be inappropriate. Would it also be inappropriate to return 2 random rockets for every random rocket received? There do not seem to be many "appropriate" alternatives to terrorist attacks against civilians. The learning curve of Hamas seems to be slow indeed and they will require some very patient on-the-ground education.

Ness from Indiana...that's so sad how you can say that, as a fellow American/human being, I am absolutely embarassed at the kind of comment you've made. God doesn't do any of this and doesn't choose sides. We are the idiots who create the problems we are in, not God. God is on everyone's side, not just Israel's!! If he was, Israel would be a perfect nation, which it really isn't, ask anyone there! What Bible, Qur'an, Torah, Vedas, Mahabarata are you reading because all say Peace Is The Way!! For BOTH sides!! Violence always creates MORE problems/hostility (look at the ENTIRE world today)..
8  |   Sami, Jordan, Saturday Jan 10, 2009
Do you know what is the defferance between us and you... we think peace is a target, you think peace is to take a rest... If you are saying peace must be lasting then why dont you think of starting,, there is no ned for more blood to make the other part to suffer more and you get more corage to get more results.. think of it as if you want to stop.. just stop.. or leave it.. there will be an end sooner or later...
9  |   L Eddy U.S.A., Sunday Jan 11, 2009
I would like to address the person of [deepa] comment 7 from Indiana How in the world with an bibical back ground of any bible reading can you say that God is not behind any of this? You say God does not take sides. And you are correct we are the idiots because we try to solve the problem with out God. Read 1Ki 11:13;1Chr16:13;2Chr6:6;Ps28:9 God does take sides. These are Gods chosen.Ps 122:6 Pray for the peace of...........you read it. God does take sides. Israel will have the victory have a nice day

When the world sees a "peace now" movement in the Islamic world, you can start to have hope. The study should be what conclusions should you draw from the absolute absence of any moderate voices in the Islamic world who would criticize Hamas or any others of those dedicated to the utter destruction of Israel. Let us hear some Islamic world leaders say: "Hamas stop your rockets. Hamas build an economic market relationship with Israel to improve the lives of all in the area." All we hear is utter, tragic silence.

Go Israel go!!!!!!! From a Christian that knows.
12  |   Joanna, NY, Sunday Jan 11, 2009
Deepa and Mike-so sad! Ahhh, to live in your world, where peace with monstrous terrorists is just a peace treaty away! You disagree with Ness because he espouses reality and that SCARES and SADDENS you-wake up, you naive and deluded peaceniks! And by the way, you in liberal England and NY, who don't have to deal with any such reality of war and terror on a daily basis- there is one G-d and HE (what's with that ridiculous "SHE" BS, Mike?) is on Israel's side-whether or not that is totally evident right now!
13  |   Michael, Modi'in, Sunday Jan 11, 2009
Great post Jeremy, I was trying to say the same thing in a recent blog post, but you got the point accross much better than I did. You can read my attempt here: [ Link to page ]

You're all part of the same "Club" it's called either "Pass the Buck or "Share your Emotions". The author is clearly telling you something; "This is the time for War". Instead of sharing your emotions or waiting for God to fix it all you might want to consider that God helps those who try to help themselves. One would think that with 6.5 billion people out there then a solution would be just around the corner. I say Abbas should outlaw Hamas and take control of Gaza that way we only have one radical organization to deal with. Israel will now have to stay in Gaza anyway.
15  |   rusty Ft. Collins Colorado, Sunday Jan 11, 2009
As tragic as this all is, for the innocents on BOTH sides, I've still got to agree with you. This fight is necessary. Hamas is a terrorist organization, extremely racist in nature. Israel makes concessions, and Hamas digs tunnels in order to smuggle in weapons. Israel opens up it's borders, and the suicide bombers go back to work in Israeli cities. How many countries in this world can even understand what Israel has had to deal with ? Peace would indeed be wonderful, but with a group such as Hamas, it will never happen. Even now, their leader talks (from Syria) as if he has the upper hand. Sad.
16  |   Chaim - Israel, Monday Jan 12, 2009
It has long been obvious that the only true path to peace is through total Israeli victory with no concessions. This was exactly the formula which has brought generations of peace to Europe and Asia with no end in sight. The Allies did not negotiate with Germany and Japan until both nations were pounded into total submission. Nor were any concessions made to Germany and Japan. Our "peace process" is a total disaster which has brought us nothing but enormous casualties and suffering. The first rocket didn't land on Sderot till after Oslo. Disengagement brought them by the thousands.

I am not Jewish but I love the God that they honour...therefore, my heart is with you Israel people!!! People will hate you and nations will turn against you, we know that already...but we also know that God will be your great salvation! BE STRONG MEN OF GOD! for He is about to come back for us! If I would find out that I had a little bit of jewish blood in my veins, I'd leave my country in no time!;)
18  |   Kevin, Australia, Monday Jan 12, 2009
The message is inside the term "lasting peace". Peace comes last, after the fighting, after the enemy's defeat, and only as a consequence of them then being prepared to talk about peace terms.
19  |   Faiz, Monday Jan 12, 2009
What is it that you and me (regardless of religion) want from life. We want peace, we want to cherish life and enjoy our time here. When you lose a deer one rationality fades and hysteria is the order of the day. Israel economically superior than Gaza due to aid. Spending your life looking from across a fence, watching the wonders of modernity, mourning the loss of family and your land and not having the comforts of life will further the Hamas cause. As a species we need to share this earth, because God has lent it to us. We won't walk the earth for eternity. Open your heart and mind. Forgive!

My prayers for all IDF combatants involved in Gaza operation: a hug and a tap on your shoulder guys. Every IDF soldier is not only fighting for ISRAEL but for the whole peace loving people in the world. JERUSALEM IS ISRAEL AND ISRAEL IS JERUSALEM.
21  |   david germany, Monday Jan 12, 2009
The moment you start talking about God you all lose perspective on this conflict. Leave your imaginary friend aside and look at the children bleeding to death on soldiers feet and being looked at with complete indiference. There is absolutely no excuse for that!
22  |   Avram Avie Erdile Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, Monday Jan 12, 2009
I pray for those Who give there lives, So that we may be Free And so our children Will not have to give there lives. Every man and woman In israel Has a place in my heart. I will stand by you no matter what. May the spirits of Judah And of our men Past Be Not behind you But beside you in this fight. We fight not for war But for the eventual Peace. ????? ????? ???? ?? ??? ????? ???? ??? ??? ? ???

It is very important that rockets stop coming into Israel and second the rocket supply line from Iran to Egypt and into the tunnels into Gaza must be cutoff. Easier said than done.Egypt as they seem to be must be a very important player in any lasting cease fire or peace. Sharing a border with Gaza they do have some influence over Gaza and Hamas. Jordan is very important in any negotiation with the West Bank. If somehow Syria could enter into talks this could isolate Iran.Saudia Arabia has previously shown interest in talks This would further isolate Iran. This is a tall order but necessary.

i pray for you people

What a great article To the point and to the heart of where truth lives . I only wish I could open the daily news paper or the LA times here in good old USA and read your artical there. Israel has every right to defend herself and her people Hamas is nothing more than a terrorist group that must be taken down once and for all. From my mouth to g-ds ears.
26  |   Ruben Misrahi, OH USA, Tuesday Jan 13, 2009
The path to peace goes through education. The UN should make it a crime to indoctrinate children and poison their minds. You cannot make peace with someone that doesn't accept your existence. This generation of Palestinian children is doomed. Let's wait for the next one, but prepare the path.
27  |   Rochelle - Baltimore, MD, Tuesday Jan 13, 2009
Jeremy - GREAT article. Just like #25, I just wish we could get to read it in our local Maryland newspapers.
28  |   Kibi, Wednesday Jan 14, 2009
@Faiz (19) made me laugh: "Israel economically superior than Gaza due to aid." Right. *that's* the reason Israel has money. Despite the fact that Gaza and the PA receive more economic aid per capita than any other region in the world. Folks in Gaza don't need to spend any time making a living to feed themselves or their families - thet get it all from UNWRA - so they can spend their whole time preaching hatred, digging tunnels to smuggle weapons and making more babies (which they don't have to pay to feed) to educate as suicide bombers.
29  |   Kibi, Wednesday Jan 14, 2009
The UN made this problem and it's a problem which is gong to affect the world - not just Israel. A generation of radicalized Arabs is being raised with nothing on their minds and nothing else to do than to work at the destruction of Western civilization. Israel will do what it can, but if the rest of the world doesn't pitch in this is going to be a very one sided world war. Imagine if everyone had decided that Germany was just a Polish problem back in 1939...or just a French problem in 1940 - allowing the Islamist movement to gain momentum will just make the inevitable struggle bloodier.
30  |   George, Quebec, Thursday Jan 15, 2009
Jewish Peacenicks you're right. - The Allies should have been stopped before Berlin. Their unproportionate reaction to Pearl Harbor, Coventry and Leningrad was not in order. After D-Day they should have negotiated with Hitler.- Instead, they bombed not only the Wermacht, the SS and industrial projects like the IG Farbenindutry, but underaged Hitler Jugends, Hausrfraus of the Waffen SS. in Dresden, Hamburg, Nurenberg, etc too..- If Eisenhower, Montgomery and Zhukov would have been a Peace Now member then you could could be also remembered on Holocaust Day, Jan 27 or won't have been born at all.
31  |   marijuasher, Austin, Saturday Jan 17, 2009
Faiz: Israel is not vastly wealthier to the Palestinians because of aid; it's because Israel uses what money she gets to make money by producing products that do some good. Your leaders have been wasted generations to the concept of shaheedim. The fact that Arafat died with a billion bucks is not Israel's fault.
32  |   Ness, Tuesday Jan 20, 2009
FIrst of all to MIKE from england....i'm not a Hamas supporter...and GOD is a HE. ANd if you would crack open a BIBLE every once and a while, YOU would realize. Isreal will come out a head. Isreal isn't Hamas. Isreal is tired of getting picked on. It actually sounds like you are a supporter. What do you have against Isreal?

Roddy Frankel: I saw a documentary on Palestinian children being used to build the weapons smuggling tunnels in Gaza. If they are injured or killed during battle, it is definitely not Israel's fault, because children should not be on the battlefield in the first place. The parents of Gaza are at fault. They should be put on trial at Richard Goldstone's war crimes tribunal.
Hope Jammes, Ottawa, Canada: I'm a gentile who spent two years studying the Old Testament (and one studying the New). My heart grew. I began to study the history of Israel and then visited Israel last November/December. I'm going back because I seem to have left my heart there. In my studies I've found that there is no more a gentler and respectful people than the Jews. Israel is no less entitled to its heritage and country than any other nation. My heart has grown because of Israel and its people.
