Dear Bishop Richard Williamson,

You've been in the news quite a bit lately, haven't you?

As one of the four bishops whose excommunication from the Church was recently lifted by the Vatican, you and your, shall we say, problematic beliefs have gained international attention.

Chief among them is your denial of the Holocaust. The Church inexplicably missed this anything-but-secret side of your life, but after much public outcry, it now insists that you recant your views before moving forward.

Your denial of the Holocaust isn't new, of course. Twenty years ago, you declared that, "There was not one Jew killed in the gas chambers. It was all lies, lies, lies. The Jews created the Holocaust so we would prostrate ourselves on our knees before them and approve of their new State of Israel... Jews made up the Holocaust..."

The basis for your denial?

In an interview this month in Der Spiegel, you stated, "I addressed the subject in the 1980s. I had read various writings at the time. I cited the Leuchter report in the interview, and it seemed plausible to me. Now I am told that it has been scientifically refuted. I plan now to look into it."

The interviewer then suggested a trip to Auschwitz, to which you replied, "No, I will not travel to Auschwitz."

It's hard to know where to begin in the face of such appalling - and, no doubt, willful - ignorance on the part of a Cambridge-educated prelate.

Why willful? Because anyone opting to believe the scientific quackery of Fred Leuchter, who sought to prove that mass gassings were impossible but was dismissed by historians and legal experts as the kook that he was, can't be totally honest. Nor can someone who refuses to visit Auschwitz, while trumpeting his denial of what took place there.

Yes, Bishop Williamson, we Jews, with our infinitely fertile imagination and endless desire to deceive the rest of the world, made up the Holocaust.

No, there never was an Adolf Hitler, a Mein Kampf, a Wannsee Conference, or a Final Solution. Nor were there the death camps at Auschwitz, Birkenau, Belzec, Chelmno, Majdanek, Sobibor, or Treblinka. Nor were there the Einsatzgruppen, the ravines of Babi Yar, or the ghettos. Nor were there the gas chambers, the crematoria, or the killing agents.

No, it was just one big fabrication to enlist the world's sympathy.

And no, six million Jews weren't really killed. Of course not. They're all living on a South Pacific island having a smashing time with their children and grandchildren.

Or maybe they're hiding just outside Thessaloniki, waiting for the moment when no one is looking so they can regain their homes and livelihoods in a city where - allegedly, of course, Bishop Williamson - 96 percent of the Jewish residents disappeared one fine day in 1943.

And why have I been grieving for my cousin, Mila Racine, all these years? How could I think she had been killed in the death camps, when I should have been looking for her on Facebook? How silly of me!

I'll be sure to tell all those with whom I grew up that their parents, like mine, were liars. How dare they, the survivors, the remnants of European Jewry, have led us astray into believing that so many of their relatives, neighbors, friends, and colleagues had been carted off by the Nazis and their collaborators, never to be seen again? After all, you seem to know otherwise.

Oh, and, let's not forget, Bishop Williamson, that we Jews are so cunning and powerful - you know that, since you've publicly praised the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as truthful - that we managed to persuade everyone from Winston Churchill to General Dwight Eisenhower, from Jan Karski to Raoul Wallenberg, that there was a Holocaust. Boy, did we ever manage to pull the wool over the world's eyes!

Bishop Williamson, what really explains your refusal to accept perhaps the most documented - and monstrous - crime in recorded history, a crime so unique that Churchill referred to it as "a crime without a name"?

Clearly, it's not the absence of information. Scholarly works, personal testimonies, eyewitness accounts, films, archives, and museums abound.

No, it must be something else.

Could it be a desire to "protect" the historical image of Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich from the stain of the Holocaust?

Could it be an effort to stir the waters of anti-Semitism, which got a "bad name" during the Second World War?

Maybe it's a way of seeking Israel's elimination, since you insist that its creation derived from our grand deceit?

Or perhaps it's a theological issue, rooted in your ultra-conservative, pre-Second Vatican Council belief system that does not hold Jews, any Jews, in particularly high regard?

Whatever the reasons, you certainly find yourself in good company. Let's see. Apart from Fred Leuchter, there's David Irving, who was found in a British court to be a Holocaust denier and a racist. Then there's David Duke, whose racism and anti-Semitism have found him dear friends in Iran. And, not least, there's the Iranian president himself, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has taken on the role of global Holocaust denier-in-chief.

Perhaps it's too late, Bishop Williamson, or perhaps it's not. If your religious beliefs include the possibility of redemption, go to Auschwitz, Birkenau, and Belzec. Visit the Holocaust museums in Washington, London, and Jerusalem. And go back and read what the Church has said on the subject of the Holocaust, including the powerful statements of Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, as well as the 1998 Vatican document, "We Remember: A Reflection on the Shoah."

Oh, and while you're at it, perhaps you'd add another book to your reading list, the late Father Edward Flannery's The Anguish of the Jews: Twenty-Three Centuries of Anti-Semitism. It might help you understand the historical antecedents of the Holocaust. Jews had long been demonized, dehumanized, and destroyed on European soil - and the religious teachings, edicts, and incitement of the Church were all too frequently a common denominator.

What ultimately happens to your standing in the Church is a matter for others to decide. But don't count on the silence of Jews and Gentiles of good will, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, as long as you seek to kill the victims of the Holocaust a second time by choosing to ignore the reality of their deaths.

What's next on your political agenda? How about challenging the truth of the 9/11 attacks by suggesting that the US government planned it all as a pretext to invade Afghanistan? Oh, sorry, you've already done that.

Well, Bishop Williamson, don't give up hope. Maybe you can take up the case that Galileo, unlike you, actually did deserve eternal excommunication for asserting that the earth revolved around the sun.

So what? There will always be Holocaust deniers, few and far between. Jealous people. People who don't want to place blame where it really belongs, usually with themselves or on their parents. People who can't come grips with reality. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if most holocaust deniers are just angry, lonely and probably near clinically depressed individuals who are probably projecting their psychosis. Do we really need to keep addressing these people? Are there not other more important issues?

Bravo to David Harris, Another excellent letter which affirms why I financially support AJC. Stephen GHaslpern

David Harris is awesome! Thank you for all of your brilliant posts. Unfortunately, there are many others with a mind-set similar to Bishop Williamson, that is, totally demented. Keep up the excellent work. I will continue to follow your work closely.
4  |   Ken Maltz, Tuesday Feb 10, 2009
Bishop Williamson well deserves the contempt voiced by David Harris. The Bishop is nothing less than an embarrassment to his church. His kind must be confronted at every opportunity lest their perverse views gain traction. Thank you David for, once again, standing up for the Jewish People and enlightened people everywhere.

Instead of flogging this horse, it should be a good time to petition the Pope to encourage and fund visits to Holocaust museums by Catholic groups.

As a Jew ever mindful of the atrocities of the Shoah, I remain concerned with many of the commentaries regarding this evil time of our history never alluding to other minority or ethnic groups targeted and exterminated during the Holocaust, namely, Catholics, homosexuals, gypsies and others. We need to be more inclusive in admonishing the likes of Bishop Williamson and not ignore those who shared the outcomes of Hitl;er's goal for an aryan race.
7  |   Jane Kasov, Scarsdale, NY, Tuesday Feb 10, 2009
The writer adopted a false voice and killed his communication, which was probably heartfelt, even angry. Was it actually sent to the bishop, or am I naive to think that? If I were writing to the bishop, I would imagine Father Coughlin, not a German. I would talk to him about his religion, not his scurrilous writings. I would say that all religion be damned if it doesn't permit a person to use his reason. Archness and sarcasm are added tones that interfere with the communication. Lotte Lenya, not a great singer, meant every word she sang. The listener felt that and had to respond.

Too bloody right, but what a waste of breath with such people!

Thanks Mr. Harris, The anti semimist is growing world wide and is stronger than before. I am a child of Holocaust survivers, survivers from the death camps of Transnistria, Mogiilov. My dad was born in Chernowits and his dad was shot to death by the anschlutz German soliders that arrived to his town, From 250000 Jews in Chernowits only 25000 survived. I see a strong connection between anti semitism and the critisism of how Israel defends it self. It is like we live in a Getto and we do not have the right to defend ourselves, others tell us what to do and what not.

I doubt any words can persuade Williamson to change his views which stem from his deep anti-Semitism.I suspect he loves the attention his hate speech is getting.I am sure he feels it is reaching resceptive ears around the world in a way he could never had on his own.The real issue here is the Pope.He has failed to see that his words & actions have consequences beyond the church. He fails to use JohnPaul 2 as his model. In restoring prayers with anti-Semitic text, speaking harshly of Islam & in restoring a group of anti-Semites within the church he encourages intolerance & hate.

Hello and Shalom truly, I'm a columnist for the National Catholic Reporter online. I hope you will read my column just uploaded today re Bishoip Williamson, just this one Catholic's vociferous refutation on this outrageous situation. Many good Catholics stand together in brother and sisterhood with Jews on this matter: millions. Please, Be not discouraged. [ Link to page ] You may also find interest in the column I wrote a couple weeks ago, called PiusXII: Let us be the blameworthy, that is for us to mend and act toward Jews in ways our hierarchy is too often seemingly delayed in doing. Bravo to David Harris yet again.I feel it is important to respond to these demented,.racist and antisemitic fools-if we don't such sickness could easily spread even more than it is already spread.Witness Germany in the early 1930s.We need more articulate people like David Harris to stand up to these sickos.

Bravo to David Harris. His gift of expressing his disdain for all Williamson has professed has become the gift of the Jewish people. While he maintains a factual approach, he can engender sarcasm with a touch of humor as well. He is eloquent and the spokesperson for that which is the core of truth that resulted in the loss of 6 million Jewish lives . I look forward to his responses to the unbalanced effort on the part of Bishop Williamson.

One aspect regarding the Leuchter report is that it was totally rebutted in 1988 and more extensively in the Irving v Lipstadt & Penguin Books in 2000. No one seems to comment on Williamson's knowledge for nearly a decade that the basis of his beliefs was totally flawed. It is only now that he intends to 'have a look for evidence'.
16  |   davidrev, Melbourne Australia, Wednesday Feb 11, 2009
I used to have friends who were members of the congregation at a Society of St. Pius X church. I broke with them because of their anti-Semitism. Twenty five years ago they claimed a great Freemasonic conspiracy. Then it morphed into a Jewish conspiracy, followed by overt sympathy for the Nazis. I believe that some people who are personal failures seek external reasons why they fail to achieve what they regard as their just deserts. This leads them to imagine external and malign secret forces that account for their insignificant achievements, so they believe in all sorts of conspiracy theories. Anti-Semitism is a very convenient position for them to adopt to excuse their own inadequacies.

NEVER AGAIN! Isn't that what we said? I'm as quick to admonish Jews as well as others when I'm told "that's ancient history". Or "can't you put that behind you?" Angry? You bet I'm angry! Angry at the Holocaust deniers, those that tell me to "put it behind you", those that tell me that "Israel's retaliation aginst Hamas was disproportionate", and those that reap the benefits of what we, the Jewish people, have given to the world, but show their appreciation by bad mouthing us when we defend ourselves. Let us burn it into their brains: NEVER AGAIN! Thank you, Mr. Harris.
18  |   R. Collins, Wednesday Feb 11, 2009
Really amazing and well-written article. I was very moved. Anti-semitism is at the core of Williamson's belief and there is no hope for such a poisonous and destructive system.
19  |   maria, Wednesday Feb 11, 2009
To # 2: WRONG! This is not about exercising your freedom of speech! When the Bishop assumed this religious role, it came with huge responsibilities. Unfortunately, he does not have the luxury to spit out whatever he desires. That role prevents him from doing all that. Sure, he can deny the Holocaust BUT it comes with a price-he needs to give up that role. Some professions come with huge responsibilities and the people who assume them need to set stellar examples for their followers. If they are unable to do that, they need to become followers NOT leaders!
20  |   arline-MA-USA, Wednesday Feb 11, 2009
While I believe in redemption, Bishop Williamson has not shown any remorse or recanted his hateful and hurtful anti-semitic statements. By removing excommunication from Bishop Williamson, the Pope and Catholic leadership are condoning (not condeming) this anti-semitic behavior. Bishop Williamson does not testify to the truth but to twisted lies. He should be defrocked and a number substituted for his name!
21  |   FJ, SF Bay Area, Wednesday Feb 11, 2009
Thank you, David Harris! I applaud AJC for its stance and smile broadly every time I hear your ads on KCBS in the San Francisco Bay Area. Anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiments are growing everywhere and we need more courage than ever to battle them. May we all have your courage to do so. Am Israel Chai!
22  |   Mark Gillis, Luxembourg, Wednesday Feb 11, 2009
Paul, New Mexico wrote: "It's amazing the the Holocaust is the one hostoric event, where all discussion or debate is muted." The task of history involves 1) the ascertainment of facts and events, and 2) analyzing and debating their causes, consequences and meaning. Nobody is calling for limits on the latter, rather people are criticized for denying facts and events already firmly established. Can you imagine anyone attempting to deny that WWI actually happened. Yet, such an absurd assertion is constantly made regard the Holocaust. That is not history, but a political effort to falsify it.
23  |   Mary - Seattle WA, Wednesday Feb 11, 2009
Let's pray that the former Grand Inqusitor of the Roman Catholic Church (Cardinal Ratzinger), had not unleashed another evil for the Jews to deal with. Bishop Williamson is not a Christian, but someone out of a time warp. God protect Israel and all her children!
24  |   Alex, Oxford, Wednesday Feb 11, 2009
I do not understand how the Pope has not ended this whole scandal already. It is clear Bishop Williamson has not changed his views and what is more shocking is that even when he had the opportunity to redeem himself, he chose not and re-asserted his hateful position. Why Bishop Williamson is responsible for his own words, he has remained consistent over the last several years. The real question is, why did the Pope decide to re-communicate him? I simply do not believe he was not aware of Williamson's views before doing so.

Well done, David. This is another great piece you have written. I am a Catholic who is deeply ashamed to be associated, with so-called "Bishop" Williamson. He is from a break-away group who rejected Vatican Two. His group are a small minority and I had never heard of him, before his terrible views came to light. He was appointed a Bishop without papal permission and I now hope he will recant his horrible views on the Shoah. The Catholic Church should not wait around too long to hear a responce. I think the pope wanted to reconcile this group with the church but they should of seen this coming
27  |   Arto from Finland, Wednesday Feb 11, 2009
This man, Williamson, needs help. Anyone, but a sick person speaks like he does. He is like a child who tries to cut the dash. I wonder how seriously people are taking him when he speaks at churc.
28  |   Lawyermom, Maryland USA, Wednesday Feb 11, 2009
While the Roman Catholic Church certainly has its share of blame in anti-semitism thru the centuries, I am concerned that when writers speak of the anti-semitism of "the Church" they are giving a free pass to the other Christian churches which have also been anti-Semitic. Martin Luther's anti-Semitism was finally condemned after World War II by the Lutheran Church, for example. There's plenty of historical guilt to go round; and let's not forget either that as a secular power, the Catholic Church murdered its own adherents accused of heresy, witchcraft, etc.
29  |   Roz, New Jersey, Thursday Feb 12, 2009
Bishop Williamson - There are only two things anyone can do in the face of unimaginable cruelty sprinkled with a bit of madness: fight it or join it. Do stop bending over trying to pacify the evil doers. Grow up. Stand up like a man, and separate from those scarey Nazi madmen. Try to overcome your fears, and acknowledge the reality of the Holocaust. Think it over if you can.
30  |   Stuart Friedman, Cleveland, Ohio, Thursday Feb 12, 2009
If all Jews are so evil, then how do you explain the fact that Jesus was born, lived, and died a faithful, believing, and committed Jew? My many Catholic friends are all deeply embarrassed by the rantings of this lunatic, and more embarrassed that the Pope has put his foot in his mouth once again by readmitting him to the fold.
31  |   Cappy, Palm Beach, FL, Thursday Feb 12, 2009
Once again, David, Bravo! This is an outstanding piece. You have made the case as only you can. We Jews are very lucky to have you in the critical role you play.

Majority of us applaud David Harris. There are a few who do not. To the few I ask: Have you yourselves ever attempted to be proactive regarding anti-Semitism? Or maybe you avoided a hate monger because it was ‘just another man, do not bother’ and thus let it go? That is what happened to Hitler. That is what’s happening to Ahmadinejad. We ignore them. We do not want to deal with them. We allow them to pursue their perilous goals until we encounter that horrific path, realizing it is too late. Personally, I am grateful that there are leaders like Harris who will sleep with their eyes open because many of us have been slumbering away.

I'm one of those Jews who never understood the differences among global Jewish organizations. But the more I see the work of AJC here in France and elsewhere, including through their website (ajc.org), the more I am convinced it stands head and shoulders above the other Jewish groups in the quality and sophistication of its advocacy. Harris's powerful writings illustrate the point perfectly.
37  |   Danielle, Switzerland, Thursday Feb 12, 2009
"So what?," the fellow from Atlanta (#1) writes. Are you suggesting this issue isn't important enough for public discussion? How wrong you are! The Pope, the leader of a billion Catholics and a major global figure, welcomes back into the church a Holocaust-denying bishop (and only later reconsiders). In my book, that's huge. Since you're in Atlanta, try meeting Professor Deborah Lipstadt of Emory University. She has spent much of her life valiantly combating Holocaust denial .Thank goodness for people like her and Harris.
38  |   Wasobamican ohio, Thursday Feb 12, 2009
I am offended by the Bishop's comments, but more offended by the press who reports his garbage without comment or distain. That distain is eserved for interviews with Mr. Bush, or any Israeli official.
39  |   emine, ankara, Thursday Feb 12, 2009
If I were Catholic (fortunately I am not), I would refuse to be in the same venue with Williamson and co. But I am curious and I would like to ask the Vatican: Help me understand something! According to the Catholic Encyclopedia one of obligations of a bishop is to "possess the power of order and jurisdiction and preserve true faith and high moral." And under the leadership of the Pope you all are comfortable empowering a man of no honor and no ethical qualities? Is it because your Pope is now being visited by his native country’s Nazi ghosts or is it because he is fast becoming demented?
40  |   joan rose edinburgh scotland, Thursday Feb 12, 2009
As always, a clear and rational response from David Harris - and with a touch of humour (at times of necessity, slightly macabre). Wish you didn't have to take on these people but it is a delight to read what you have to say.
41  |   Nechama in NJ, Thursday Feb 12, 2009
Thank you for your great post. My question to the pope is if this man has been espousing these views for decades, how can he suddenly honestly recant? He's a highly educated man; it isn't like the truth wasn't out there all along. It's because the church was been indoctrinating its flock with hate towards Jews for the last 2,000 years. This hate has directly led to the death of countless Jews since Rome put Jesus to death. Isn't it ironic that they chose Rome for their vatican? Why hasn't the church ever apologized for baptizing & stealing Jewish babies especially in aftermath of Holocaust?
42  |   Patricia, Syracuse, NY USA, Thursday Feb 12, 2009
Thank you, David Harris, for your article! I am a former Catholic who is sickened by this 'bishop's' rantings. The more Williamson's disgusting views are detailed, the more they should be denounced. Go back into your medieval hole where you belong, Williamson you idiot. When you die, you'll find out once and for all that Jesus IS Jewish--what will you do about it then??

Rachel Israel: The pre-war Jewish population was only around 50,000 yet you say it was it 250,000: "Between the two world wars Czernowitz . . . was a city of about 110000 inhabitants, situated on the river Prut, in the foothills of the Carpathian mountains. The population was quite mixed but heavily Jewish (there were about 50000 before the Holocaust)." Source: Yiddish Literature and Language [ Link to page ]

Williamson denies the holocaust while being well aware that it did exist Williamson acusses the Jews for killing Jesus while being well aware that such a person NEVER EXISTED. At the first council at Nicaea, in 343 the Roman Emperor Alexander decided to CREATE a head symbol for all the proliserites and named it HESU CHRISHNA. Hesu was the god of a large tribe in England and Krishna was the god of the Hindus. Hundreds of years later it became Jesus Christ. Copy of the council meeting are in the Vatican and other libraries.

Bishop Williamson's deceitful dealings about the Holocaust are a fulfillment of prophecy (cf. Isaiah 33:1).
48  |   Eduardo Sternick, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Friday Feb 13, 2009
This pseudo-man of God argentinian citizen -I will spare the readers his name (he is a truly noone) is unwillingly doing a service to those who perish at the hands of the nazis because everytime he declares his antisemitic opinions he also raises a waterfall of critiscism and give us the oportunity to tell the world what the holocaust was all about. When we read in the newspapers that the holocaust will not be teached in English schools no more - it can be offensive to islamic people- it is a rare oportunity to bring it to light.

In my twenties, about 35 years ago, I was on a lunch break from a professional class with other students. Somehow they found out I was Jewish (though I never hid it). One young man on crutches with polio and had no use of his legs said to me: "WE SHOULD HAVE FINISHED WHAT HITLER STARTED!". Too afraid to answer but laterI promised myself I would ALWAYS defend us from such words that put my People in ovens. Oddly for him, he would have been of the first to die! How dare anyone deny it ever happened. I'd kick the crutches out from under Williamson since I missed my chance the first time!

My heart is greived to hear of such nonsense and ignorance. As one who is of German descent, I have seen Dachau while a student in Europe in 1982. I live in the Twin Cities where I grew up in a Jewish neighborhood, and my best friend and neighbors at this tender age were my best friends that I dearly loved. I graduated from a Catholic college with a degree in theology. To say the holocost didn't happen is denial of history, deplorably we have many who only look to impiracle evidence and so need the Grace of God's Holy Sprit to grasp hold of the Truth found in Christ Jesus alone. Shalom
51  |   Alloy,Tanzania, Friday Feb 13, 2009
bishop williamson is just echoeing what exactly happened between ww2 and the church- ignoring the plight of Jews, for which we repented. Catholicism shared this evil of anti-semitism and still is. Comeon, history is full of atrocities agaist Jews. From holocaust to crusaders 'holy wars...you name them. Shame on you bishop.

If it is denied by those lunatics now in power that the Holocaust existed why now do they want to commit the same crime? ARE WE ALL LUNATICS TO PUT UP WITH THIS?
53  |   Mahesh Lavannis, Saturday Feb 14, 2009
Williamson makes all Catholics look bad. It is understandable that in these days of dwindling interest in Christianity, the Pope has to do something drastic to go back to the roots. After all, the Church has to worry about its own survival first. But why not go to the real roots instead of pseudo/medieval customs? To the path as prescribed by the ancient texts of Christianity - propounded by the wise men of ancient Egypt? The path that teaches no holocausts or quick fixes ("~indulgence~", whatever) - but a sustained and difficult path of self inspection, humility and sacrifice.
54  |   dw,usa, Sunday Feb 15, 2009
How DARE Williamson talks about the Holocaust? How DARE he tries to rape the memories of the innocent men, women, children who perished in the death camps and elsewhere with a little help from his beloved Vatican! How DARE he tries to steal the truth from the survivors and their loved ones! How dare he tries to disturb the Jewish people over and over again! HOW DARE HE TRIES TO ALTER HISTORY! Williamson himself and anyone who empowers Williamson will all rot in HELL -a venue they never try to deny!
55  |   Stuart Framingham Ma USA, Sunday Feb 15, 2009
The one great omission that David Harris made regarding Leuchter - a no degree no professionaly credentialed crackpot - was that his "scientific theories" weren't just disproved by historians and lawyer but by scientists as well. . Interestingly Williamson refers to Leuchter as someone who installed gas chambers as vehicles of execution in various states. This is untrue. Leuchter palmed himself off as an electric chair specialist.
56  |   dw, usa, Sunday Feb 15, 2009
Yes, the DENIAL story ends "happily ever after" as the Pope tells the world that such denials will NEVER be tolerated and announces his first visit to Israel. Surely, he will pay a visit to the Yad Vashem to make things look even more civilized! Well done Vatican PR office! End of story. All will be forgotten while our attention will move to another defamer complacently! Then déjà vu all over again with more denials and denunciations and more apologies! Isn’t this how their religion operates: Once you confess, you can commit the same crime over and over again! Never say ‘never’ dear Pope!

I have seen much evil not because of the person(s) targeted for persecution, rather because of the reaction of the abused person. You defend yourself the best way you can. Then, the ones who persecuit would say-"see". Yes, I see very clarely; the average pesecuter-including anta-semits as well as persosns who persecuit other people are basically moral cowards, who try to compensate by demeaning others. My question is this; as abuse of another is a sin, then why do we not call these abusers to task. Then,HaShem willing, we can have a better world. Or do too many "good" people not have the will.

Marsha-Georgia; I thank you for your fellings. My mother told me at least a million times (I had a rough time growing up) that two wrongs a right does not make. This is the best math lesson I ever had.

An incredibly well-written and thought-provoking article on a Catholic prelate who is asleep at the wheel. He is not alone. For centuries anti-semitism has prevailed in religious institutions with little being done to thwart it. World governments are also to be indicted in this perverse and sinful display of disregard for an ancient peoples. The Church should continue to speak out forcefully against any displays of antisemitism in any and all forms. This frightful sin must never be repeated and the forces that proceed to rekindle the fires must be stopped forever.

Am I wrong that a Christian who is a "Jewish Sympathizer" is targeted for murder in Islam? Does this explain cowardness of both far right and extreme far left Christians? In Nazi Germany, weren't "Jewish Sympathizers" sent to the death camps? Does this explain some historic left overs from a" nut Bishop" living in the timewarp before Vatican II when the Mass was said in Latin and the Church was cowardly silent? What is the difference between Islamic extremist now and Nazi if they both kill Christian Jewish Sympathizers?

Come on now. We dont have to like what Wiliamson said but to hunt him like a mad dog - this is crazy! What if he had questioned the death toll in Soviet Russia or some other historical disaster? Would he have been kicked out of Argentina for that? Would there be an international uproar? I do believe there was an intention to wipe out most if not all Jews. To me it does not matter if it was 6 million or 300,000 --- its a tragedy nevertheless. But to demand that everyone say the same thing on this or they are hunted down???

Bishop Williamson was living in Las Rejas, near B.A. Just few knew that he was here, a former Anglican priest who never converted to Catholicism, because when he was created a Bishop by Monsignor Lefebvre, the later was already excommunicated by the Holy See according with Cannon Law. Our Church had openly ratified her doctrine against anti-Semitism, even before Vatican II, and was much more direct through letters and documents signed by Pope John Paul II and the current successor of Saint Peter, H.H. Pope Benedict XVI, who will pay this may a visit to the Holy Land for three major religions.

To Alec of Oxford, do you know that His Holiness the Pope didn’t know the very existence of Father Williamson at all? He is not a Bishop under Cannon Law, Mons. Lefebvre ordered him after being excommunicated from the Church, so we cannot accept him as a Bishop. The mistake was from one of the congregations of the Holy See, they didn’t have any news about Williamson’s statement to a German radio network. So why make such scandal for the opinion of a man who was almost ignored even by his neighbours.

I have published a technical and historical rebuttal to the interview Bishop Williamson made on Swedish television. I mentioned it to my friend Ken Stern who promised to read it. The paper, which can be seen on our web site, goes into a careful scientific and historical analsis of the Bishop's words and demolishes each one with unassailable evidence. It is a long study with illustrations written, I hope, so that the ordinary layman can read and understand it. Williamson has been a Jew hater for over 20 years. Harry W. Mazal OBE [ Link to page ]

I thank God for raising up a man such as David Harris, for such a time as this Thank you for your comments. We should not sit back and allow such evil rhetoriic from people like Williamson. The DEVIL is the FATHER of all LIARS, and Williamson is certainly demonic in his outburst and denial of the Holocaust. The Pope of Rome is no better for reinstating him to the "fold", need I say more, they are one of a kind.

That was very moving. I am Jewish and my great grandparents were killed in the holocaust. And my next door neighbor has the numbers on her arm to prove she was detained for hiding Jews. So for someone to deny it is just down right blind and ignorant.

Susan North NJ: David Harris is one of the most respected opinion makers on the US/Israeli scene. If only his columns & books were required reading on college campuses! American Jews are often self centered losing site of the fact that their behavior affects the outcome of events. The fraudulent "rabbis", the self hating Coen brothers and the Jewish financial thieves are taking us all down. Mr Harris cannot save us from them although god knows he tries.
Carmen Matussek, Germany: Happy Birthday! You don`t look like you were 60. Despite all these right-wing-left-wing-middle-wing-attacks keep writing and keep your refreshing pride. You deserve applause and at least our very best wishes and congrats. All the best!
