Guest Blog: The next holocaust? Posted by David Turner

A recent survey of Israeli high schoolers found that 82% believed another holocaust was possible. In light of the fact that Israeli education is justly criticized for not promoting Jewish and Zionist identity among our youth, the number is astounding. How is it that, if our young can clearly see the danger, that our leaders in Israel and in the Diaspora do not? Are we too timid, too concerned with offending non-Jews, to recognize and admit the danger, a danger which, if not appreciated may well exceed the price we paid in the previous effort at solving the Jewish Problem? Early in the Enlightenment, the revolution which transformed Europe from theocratic to secular, Jews were viewed as different from Europeans, and that difference was assumed based on their geographic-linguistic origins. Jews, having arrived from the Middle East, were "Semites," while European stock traced its origins to a mythic people migrating from Eurasia, the "Aryans". Eventually the scientific search for difference turned to biology, and the notion of the Jewish race was born. Antisemitism as a political movement arrived with the 19th Century. But why the Jews, how did so small, impoverished and defenseless a minority become so prominent, deserve so much thought and animus from some of the greatest minds of modern European science, arts and politics? As a Jew from a holocaust family it angers me to hear someone again talking about the holocaust and its reasons and leaving out the Jews own part in this tragic event. The Jewish people's up take and adherence to left wing politics and dogma partly led to the holocaust. It caused Jews to split and turn on eachother. Many left wing jews despised other Jews and actively promoted the myths such as Jews being greedy capitalists etc etc.

Attributing the holocaust to "Christendom" and Christians is disingenuous. Hitler was explicitly a pagan, guided by his Norse gods and astrology. His SS troops were not buried under crosses, but under pagan symbols.
Early on, however, much of this Jewish messianic movement was hijacked by opportunists who quickly turned this Jewish religious revival toward their own political and cultural ends.
To fairly judge the essence of a religion, one must look at the teachings and actions of its founder. Jesus is not Mohammed!

To paraphrase Rabbi Yehuda ha-Hassid from his renowned book written many hundreds of years ago: the gentiles will not lift a hand against the Jews unless the Jews do evil first one against the other.
Not to mention the absence of doing good, but evil deeds among Jews, one to another are rampant now, were rampant in the past and no reason to believe things will change in the future.
The above is why the original , G-d fearing and loving family is but now a feuding, disorganized, Jewish people with so much absence of Jewish values.

. The "left wing" Jews are not the problem. The Anti Semites of all stripes are our enemy. As for anti-Semetic propaganda against Jews, the Church of old Europe did that since the deicide charge which is the most "demonic" accucation that can be made against a people. The point is here in David Turner's column is that after 2000 years of "pogroms", the danger is still alive and well. around.

drar jon; thank you , now i understand .it was the fault of the jews.

Hitler was rasied a catholic andyes, he hated the Jewish religion and also Christianty. He called Christianity a "Jewish blemish". To say the church had no origins in anti-Semitism is wrong. The Old Church of Europe perpetuated Jew Hatred to to pews for centuries. Pogroms came from the old church leaders!

Yeah...it's all us Jews fault. After all, we gave the world God, Jesus, Allah and the Ten Commandments...now thats something to make non Jews really mad! It's called "blame the Jews for everything" club.

Stereotyping and demonizing of the 'Jew' category has been an effective tactic used to bait hate and incite pogroms, scapegoating the
Jewish community as the world plague of civilization Anti-semitism transcends the ages on the wings of oral and written tradition, accomodating the intellectuals and the ignorant alike. The Berlin 'million' rallies were attended by Physicians, Brown Shirts and
good Germans, all carrying the common torch against their fellow Jewish citizens.

Christianity is not the cause of anti-Semitism and the acts of Catholic crusaders is not representative of any true Christian. Popes ordered the crusades and not just Jews were murdered, any who disagreed with Rome. Millions of Anabaptists were murdered as well.
Blaming anti-Semitism on Catholic wars of conquest is simplistic and stereotyping. Pharaoh, Haman, Antiochus IV Epiphanes all displayed the same sort of genocidal hatred long before Christianity.

Is another holocaust possible? Think Bosnia, Rwanda, Darfur, Kenya and possibly a few other places I may have missed: yes, it's happening now all over the world. History may not repeat itself verbatim, but it does leave some very recognizable patterns which should be learned.

Certainly, the Jewish attraction to far left ideology has not been helpful. Predating Karl Marx, and in our present day, agitation for such isms as radical feminism, multicultuaralism and the homosexual agenda, we Jews have often been in the forefront of these society disturbing trends. As Isaac Beshavis Singer said, "The Jews are a people who can't sleep, and they can't let others sleep either!"

Many Jews, in Israel and the Diaspora, simultaneously fear a repeat of the holocaust AND minimize their ties to Judaism and Zionism. While it is "encouraging" that our young people are not complacent about the risks, let's hope that their response is to assert themselves proudly as Jews and Zionists, not to retreat from their history and their future.

Mr Andrew Alweis a crime of that magnitude is always the fault of the perpetrator but as a nation we must learn from our past mistakes. Jews have form in turning on eachother and fighting amongst themselves rather than standing up and fighting the common enemy. History is again repeating itself with many Jews today openly siding with forces which are aligned with Islamic fascists with a genocidal agenda against the Jewish nation.

It's very interesting to have started this article about the next holocaust by questionning the results of a survey of israeli high schoolers. It should be noticed that those schoolers act accordingly by volonteering to fight units in the IDF in similar numbers.

There is a teaching in the torah about the people of Israel beeing rightous in essence no matter what it seems to us. There is a teaching also about Israel beeing a ship in the midst of wolfes... And they are spells if G.o.d forbid we don't follow H.I.S rule. Actually the very survival of this people is obviously miraculous at least exeptionnal and certainly contrary to historical and natural rules. The conclusion is for every jew to find out why so, and act accordingly.

In a world where 5 national leaders of the most influential countries in recent history, USA, Russia, UK, France, Germany, out of 5 profess believing in God for the first time since at least the french revolution, the only country lacking such leaders is the one so called State of Israel, how come? Barak, Sharon, Olmert never aknowledge in any convincing way some true belief in anything close to judaism, at the best, they paid lip service to religious political lacquais...

How do you expect to avoid the next shoa, tells a lot about you and your belief. Be strong, be peacefull, one can't tell. Myself I'd rather fight, even preemptively if safer, I also vote accordingly. Still I don't know, I believe in the script and pray but I also try to support the fighting jews in every matter dealing with survival of the people by means of armed struggle prioritary to allusive peace hopes, like our kids...

The present political agenda could lead to another Holocaust. The leaders are unaware of the depth of the conflict and its long-term implications. Judaism is the focus of attention since it is the conceptual middle ground of the monotheistic religions. Our prominence is derived from the power of truth, it manipulates the historical scenes. A strong Jewish identity is the only solution.

I have lived in GENTILE/Christian neighborhood all my life. I found that the more assertive I am in my faith, the more respect I get. If you seek love as your protection, you lose the means and way to protect yourself and family; self respeect of yourself, faith, and mst important, our G-d.
