Living with Rockets: The depths of anxiety

I always get a little shaken up when I visit a family traumatized by a rocket attack. Today is no different, as I visit the Amar family, whose home was hit last Thursday. The first thing I see when I visit their home is Aliza Amar, the owner, sitting in a wheelchair at the entrance. Aliza looks sad and forlorn, even as neighbors come by to wish her a quick recovery.

Aliza was hospitalized for almost four days for injury and shock. She explains to me that because she is physically handicapped, she has difficulty escaping to the bomb shelter when the siren sounds. So when a rocket hit the Amar home on Thursday afternoon, December 13, Aliza, in her wheelchair could not reach the shelter in time. "The force of the rocket fall blew me off the chair, into that kitchen wall", says Aliza, as I walk into their home.

It is a site of complete devastation. The ceiling over the kitchen has completely collapsed. The sunlight pours through, illuminating a basket of orange tangerines covered with dirt and dust. Debris covers the entire kitchen floor. A family photo lies nearby, its frame and glass broken into pieces.

"Everything went black, and the next thing I know is that I am lying in the hospital in shock."

As Aliza speaks, her nine-year old daughter, Adi tightly holds her mother's hand. I ask her how she feels to have her mother back home but the girl does not respond. Her older brother, Moshe, is quick to explain that from all his siblings, Adi suffers the most from anxiety attacks. "Every time, the siren sounds, Adi runs to those photos of tzadikkim (righteous rabbis) on the walls, and kisses them, hoping they will keep her safe," says Moshe.

Adi remains quiet to the very end of my visit. Her eyes, however, express the fear and uncertainty of her family's situation, in the face of further rocket fire.

I sympathize for all the Israeli's who are constantly the targets of the murderers in Gaza and elsewhere. I just do not see any solution as long as Olmert is in power, I am so sorry to say.

I concur with Suneesh, Amen!

By now it's axiomatic, the Israeli people have the lowest expectations of any citizenry in the civilized world. They "hand tough" and will settle for fortified buildings rather than demand their government put an end to the terrorism originating from across the street. That's not bravery, that's apathy, resignation and laziness. It's also a clear sign of a nation in decline.

This is a sad state of affairs. What other country in the word, past or present, would put up with this? None!!

The Messiah Yeshua loves Jewish people. He is waiting to bless all of you. I would like to pray for your safety and building relationship with the Prince of Peace.

To: Dan Friedman -- How many years have you sat under constant rocket attack? Organized protest rallies? How much money have you spent to stop such? Prayers? Unless you've done so consistently your opinion is merciless. David said to Gad, "I am in deep distress. Let me fall into the hands of the LORD, for his mercy is very great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men." 1 Chronicles 21:13 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. (Jesus - Matthew 5:7) ..because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. James 2:12-14

We were visiting Sderot in June during a rocket attack and had to wait it out in a bomb shelter. Our hearts and prayers go out to you and may your government stay (and be) strong against terrorism. We are doing what we can to get your message heard here.

ANJ, US: To Vinegar Hill: After experiencing what he did, hopefully Sammy will pressure the Israeli government to defend Israel by dealing with the situation in Gaza instead of giving up any more land....land which belongs to the Jews and not the so-called "Palestinians."
Vinegar Hill, Madrid, Spain.: #2 Dan: You really are naive and childish in your retort. Consider what you have written. If your "HIT" takes place then it's bye bye to Israel and you won't be able to celebrate something better than a "picnic". I suggest you take some Valium before you write your next comment and then it may have some content of value.
Dan J USA: Sammy is a brave guy! Sderot is a minature of all of Israel under (G-d Forbid) attack. If Hamas et al Islamic terrorists start up again with the Kassams after Dec19th...then Israel should give Gaza such a "HIT" that it would make Hiroshima look like a picnic! There is no other answer..talking to these crocodiles of Islam is of no use! Ask the Japanese how WW2 eneded.
