Living with Rockets: 'Normal' living

It's been a long time - but the phrase "no news is good news" is not true in our case. It's scary to think what the Hamas is cooking up for us in Gaza.

Is there anyone that believes that they want some sort of peace? We all know that as we are seeing more and more shelters being built in Sderot (for private houses, banks, stores, schools, parks, etc.), the Hamas in Gaza is planning an all-out war.

But it's true - the peace and quiet that we have now in Sderot is very much appreciated. As apprehensive as I am, I still enjoy being able to let my children ride bikes outside (and not in our living room), play in the community playgrounds (not just in the new "kassam proof" one), picnic on the grass. It's amazing how easily the attacks are forgotten and how we are slowly getting used to "normal" living.

Whenever a door slams, we still jump - but we are able to breathe easier and spend time outside enjoying ourselves.

I don't know what to hope for - the longer this "quiet" lasts, the more time Hamas has to build up weapons and to make more effective explosives for killing me and my family and friends.  But - now that the kids are on vacation, it would be cruel to wish that the "quiet" be broken and to start living in fear inside for the rest of the summer. I guess time will tell...

The Jewish Agency financed a 3 week summer day-camp for the 1st-6th graders. They were planning to finance another 2 weeks, but it was cancelled because there are no Kassams. Like I said - Thank G-d we have a quiet period - but don't these kids that have lived through 8 years (their whole life) of rocket attacks deserve a little extra during the summer?

I guess they are saving up for when the kids will again have to be kept in shelters all day...

And like I've said before - Thanks G-d that He's running the show!

Mechi Fendel...I am so glad things are quiet in S'derot. I cant even imagine the fear that went thru your 8 yrs of Kassams. What a brave bunch you people are. G-d forbid it starts again ...but if it does, Israel should take out all the stops...and hit them hard! Collateral damage? All of S'derot is exactly that! Good luck. Shalom.

Hello. I live in the United States and I read this online publication because I like to be au courant with the news in Israel, which is my favorite country albeit I am not even Jewish. I love your country! I notice that you write "G-d" instead of spelling it completely. How come it is not spelled out? I apologize if I seem to be ignorant.

Shalom. Boker Tov ! I am English, not Jewish. I live in Spain. I admire your courage and tenacity so much that I want to visit Sderot as soon as I can. Maybe if a European tourist was killed by a Kassam ( G_D forbid !) then ( big maybe ) the European Union might not give so much taxpayers money to these barbarous murderers in the name of "aid" that is channelled straight into buying guns and explosives that are smuggled from Egypt into Gaza through the underground tunnels. May G_D protect you all and keep you safe from these vile examples of "humanity".

Bob..a good and logical question from a "non " Jewish person. I am not an expert but will try to explain "G-d!" We Jews honor G-d"s name so much that we dont use the word even in our prayers. Most Jews who are not Orthodox spell it "God". I am not Orthodox but I spell G-d in respect for the Orthodox way. His name (G-d) is so holy to Jews that the ancients could not say it We modern Jews try to keep that biblical tradition. A rabbi could explain it better.. thank you for loving Israel.

Cliff Ross: The entire World wonders why the Israeli Government does not strike back with massive force when Israel gets attacked. The government seems too worried about any collateral damage that may occur by retaliating . This has to change. The response to an attack should be so massive that the terrorists will either stop altogether, or slow down a lot. Israel must need a new Government ! ! Make it happen, Israel ! !
Baruch: Just think how much the govt has saved: 1) not doing anything to prevent the rockets from beng fired 2) once the rockets are fired, making every effort possible not to pay for damage caused. If this situation wren't so sad, it would be hilarious.
