In October of 2001, Rehavam Ze’evi, the former Israeli Minister of Tourism was assassinated at a hotel in Jerusalem. It was under these devastating circumstances that I assumed the position of Minister of Tourism. The city centers had been abandoned, and the people of Israel found themselves victims of a terrorist war directed against the civilian population. The tourism industry was devastated, which only contributed to the already damaged economy. Every facet of life in Israel was difficult. Our spirits were broken, our streets were empty and our very existence was threatened. It was then, in one of our darkest hours that Christians stood their ground and came up to Jerusalem.

I will never forget Succot that year, when thousands of Christians marched in the streets of Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles. Shopkeepers who had been struggling to stay in business were amazed at this sight. They asked the Christian pilgrims how they had the courage to come to Israel at such a difficult time. The visitors responded that they had come to Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles in fulfillment of the prophecy spoken by Zachariah, that all nations will come up to celebrate the feast of tabernacles (14:16). They also said that they refused to allow evil, specifically in the form of terrorism, to stand between them and Israel.

This act of bravery taught me to appreciate the deep kinship between Christians and the people of Israel. Since then, I have become actively involved in working with Christian groups who love Israel. I even, took on the role of chairman of the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus.

Twenty- eight years ago, when all other embassies were leaving Jerusalem, the International Christian Embassy opened its doors in Jerusalem, making a statement for all the world to see. The ICEJ hosts the largest annual tourist event in Israel, the Feast of Tabernacles. They have demonstrated almost three decades of faithful friendship to Israel without strings attached. They even require all Christians to sign a contract denouncing missionary activity before allowing them to participate as vendors at their events. We at the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus as well, do not hide our refusal to cooperate with Christians active in missionary work amongst Jews.

I am of course, aware of all the difficult baggage we carry from our shared past as Christians and Jews, from both our distant and more recent history. But we must recognize that our greatest threat is no longer coming from the Christian world but rather from radical Islam. Amalek has taken the form of incitement in mosques in Iran and Iraq. They have become the angry Muslim youth rioting in the streets of Damascus and Beirut screaming “death to the Jews”. Amalek is Ahmadinejad, who threatens to wipe Israel off the map. No one gave me permission to forgive the Christians for past aggressions on behalf of the people of Israel but we must recognize that they are our only allies in the struggle against radical Islam.

It is because of this that I call on Israel’s Chief Rabbis to not permit “the little foxes” to mislead you and “to spoil the vineyards; for our vineyards are in bloom”.  I expect our leaders, and particularly our spiritual leaders, to be able to differentiate between friend and foe. Between opposition to missionary activity amongst Jews and opposition based on xenophobia directed at all Christians that love Israel, especially when this opposition is based on pseudo-Halakhik and pseudo-historic justifications.

It is important to build good relations with Christian communities around the world, with their spiritual leaders and political representatives. We are not building these relations only to be Politically Correct. Of course, it is important for Israel to have strong support from a number of points of view– security, tourism, and economics and so on.  Yet, we cannot ignore that on a deeper level it is important to also be “Biblically Correct”. This new relationship carries us forward into a new stage in the life of our nation. A stage called for both by the Prophets and in our prayers: Israel as “A Light unto the Nations”, and Jerusalem as a Center of Influence for all peoples.  “When God brought back those that returned to Zion, we were like unto them that dream. . .  . then said they among the nations: 'God has done great things for them'."

As a Christian I support Israel because they are still God's chosen people and He has gathered them again from the nations to live in the land He gave them forever. I have a Jewish Messiah and read a Jewish Bible. Of course I support the existance of Israel! God will bless the world through them, as He has already done!

I am gratefull for the 'hot potato' that brought this article to my atttention. I wish there was some way for me to say I am sorry for the terrible things that have been done to the Jewish people by those who blindly called themselves 'christians'. Since there is not, I will continue to do good to the house of Israel whenever I can. I am trying to make a difference for the good, that is all I can do. Thank you to those are not offended by the Christians who love Israel and desire only her good. It does get discouraging to have your intentions misunderstood, but parenting is the same way and we don't just give up and walk away from our children do we? No. so those who love Israel will continue to do so by the grace of G-d. sincerely, linda

The Christians are only allies. That is the truth.

As a Christian I do not support Israel because they are not still God's chosen people forever. Israelshould repent and accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour ,otherwise they will be a lost nation.God will bless the world through Jesus Christ and his Church and not throug this rebelion people who lost their own call to believe in Jesus Christ as the sone of God and to be their own Saviour. Please read the new testment well and do not be unwise.

When will MK Elon be Prime Minister already? Why does he understand things and no one else does?

7  |   Marlon, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

The ALMIGHTY and CREATOR who made the Heavens and the earth and all that are in them has Great Things in store for all Israel!

8  |   Eliza, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

I feel sorry for the self-called "real Arab Christian" who does not understand his bible or his Jewish savior. God will fulfill all His promises to Israel and His Son will return to Jewish Jerusalem to rule and reign. Read Zechariah. my brother. Read Romans 11. You cannot love the Messiah and hate His people. We non-Jews have been grafted into Israel, not the other way around! And there ARE thousands of Jewish people who have recognized Messiah in Israel and around the world.

9  |   David, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

Working with Chrisians should be the top priority of the Foreign Ministry in Israel. The gov should put a lot of funding into the Christian allies Caucus.

10  |   Judson, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

As a Christian I must strongly disagree with "A real Arab Christian" (comment 4)Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, show G-d's eternal love for His chosen people. I suggest they go back and read their Bible cover to cover because they have missed some mighty important points.G-d looks after His people and blesses those who bless them. He also curses those who curse them.Looking at the Arab world today I would say they fall in the latter catagory.Enough said.

The word "Christian" has many definitions according to just as many "opinions". Given the history between Judaism and Christianity, does one really wonder at Rabbinical admonishions to be careful who your "friends" are? It only took four posted comments for the, all to often, "typical" Christian position toward Judaism to come out! My love for Israel and prayers for Jerusalem come from an understanding of Jewish people & respect of Jewish culture! I am her "friend" because I choose to be. The 43 years of study in religious philosophy & doctrins of world religions have no bearing on my personal commitment to Israel and her right to exist. I have studied Tanakh, Midrashim, Haggadah, The Bible, The Qur'an (including Shar'iah Law)& Sahihs, reading them all as well as using them to document "outside" comments on what they teach! Any Christian who actually reads and truly understands The Bible's position on Israel would do well to respect her! Alas, many who spew words about what they believe are parroting what they have been told by the ill informed.

B"H As an ex-Christian who converted to Judaism, I can attest to there being many genuine deeply G-d fearing, good and loving people among the Christian community. Huge things are happening spiritually with Hashem literally waking up some (not all) Christians to a sincere and deeper appreciation of the fact that the Jews are G-d's chosen people and that Israel in the Bible really means the Land as well as its people. Hashem is bringing many supportive Christians to Israel who are hungry to understand more about the Jewish understanding of the Tanach, without necessarily ceasing to adhere to Christian theology.

While active missionizing may be an objective of a small minority of those coming, there is a very simple answer to it: an understanding of what the Tanach actually says as well as an observant Jewish lifestyle are a sure protection. Christian theology falls flat on its face once you actually read the quotes in Hebrew and in context from the Tanach that missionaries love to use to try to push JC. Observant Jews can have a far deeper and more fulfilling relationship with our Creator than most Christians could begin to understand.

By the way, I became a Jew and left Christian theology behind me not simply because I could not accept Christianity rationally (though what the Tanach says had a clear bearing on my decision), but actually because I had the most incredible and unequivocal help from Hashem Himself who literally showed me the truth in the end after an amazing but also deeply difficult struggle and journey - that all there is is G-d and His infinite and incomprehensible mind could never begin to fit into a finite human body, and that I can never truly be apart from Him and I can relate directly with Him, no intermediary necessary. Personally, I am so much more whole and happy now as a Jew. But this is my own path to Hashem, and I respect the right of others to follow their paths to Him which may be different from my own. What matters in the end, whether Christian or Jew, is that we all put G-d first, love Him with all our heart, soul and mind, and seek to follow His ways with humility.

Amazing things are happening right now, if you only have the eyes, and the trust in Hashem, to see them........

13  |   Buddy, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

I have studied the history of Israel. I know that you all are G-d's chosen people even in this day and time. I am sure all of you have heard the prophesies of the coming Messiah. Jesus is and was that Messiah. It is in your history books (Torah). G-d sent a Messiah so that we all could have a chance at heaven. G-d is a gracious and mighty creator and he doesn't want even the gentiles to parish. He did not give us the gift of being his chosen people so he made another way for the gentiles to come unto him...and that was through his Holy son Jesus Christ making the ultimate sacrifice. He is the first fruits, he is the best of the lambs. I wish you all well and for blessings of the Heavenly Father to continue upon Israel.

14  |   Anona Nel, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

To all those 'committed Christians' who think that G-d has finished with His chosen ones, let me remind you that Romans 11 in the Brit Chadasa makes it perfectly clear that He has not. He cannot revoke His promises for His loved ones otherwise He wouldn't be G-d. Replacement theology is as old as time and recognised only by the blind.

15  |   Marcio, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

To #4, you may be a real Arab, but a real Christian? Real Christians love Jews and Israel whether they believe in Jesus or not. You sound like a real Catholic or Greek Orthodox.

16  |   insan mukmin, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

What did the Christian Crusaders do to the Jews when they captured Jerusalem. They killed them. Did Muslims kill Jews when Muslims ruled Jerusalem? No, they did not.

17  |   Rebekkah, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

To the Arab Christian, you are thinking like an Amalkite!! This was Rome's thinking too. Yeshua came from the Jewish Nation, if they had not rejected Him, you would not have a Savior! Yeshua had to go to the gentile world and be rejected by the Jews for our own (gentile)good. The early church was entirely Jewish, the question they had early on was what to do with the gentile who has come to faith in Messiah Yeshua, the leadership under Yaakov (James) Ben Yosef, of Jerusalem, the brother of Yeshua insisted that the gentiles should be accepted as covenant members along with Israel, grated on as a new branch because of their trust in G-d's atoning work. The former Gentiles were now expected to go to Synagogue and learn what it means to be a part of Israel. The church fathers have so twisted the truth of our Messiah that the church became a Greek-Roman church versus a Jewish one. Then what? Amalkite in guise of the Roman church started to destroy the Jews. The Muslim world has picked up where Roman-Greek world left off. Yeshua said the Kingdom of Israel will be restored when the fullness of the Geniltes come in. Then He will meet His brothers the Jewish people with love. Similar to Joseph and his brothers. Repent, Arab Christian.

18  |   STEPHEN, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

Blessed be the G-d of Abraham Isaac and Israel! Let us remember what many Christians have forgotten; all the founders of Christianity were Jews. As a Christian it becomes necessary to follow the teachings and commandments of Jesus of Nazareth, who was a devout Jew, learned in Jewish scriptures. The teaching of Saul of Tarsus (Paul) becomes a part of your body of beliefs. The preaching of Peter James John is incorporated into your doctrines. They were all Jews. Not one of these people taught that we as Christians should despise Jewish people, much less harm them in any way. It is deviant Christianity; Christianity that has lost its Christ, that persecutes Jews in any age. It is incumbent upon both Jews and Christians alike that they come to understand this and make the attempt to bridge the gap between real Christians and the Jewish people. I am I pray, a real Christain: who loves Israel. I am not ashamed of either.

19  |   SAM, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

I am A Christian and I love and supoport Israel all the way. We are cousins and our founder was a Jew. Yet, in US, the Jewish community demands a lot that would really be copied by Muslims. To our beloved Jews, open your eyes and see what your deeds arde leading to!!!

20  |   Bernie, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

Reading the comments, it breaks my heart to know how those who called themselves Christians treated people in times past. It is no wonder that the Hebrews are cautious and uncertain of our motives. As Christians we cannot convert anyone to our beliefs, this is G-ds to do. We are commanded to love everyone regardless of who they are and to be a light in a dark world. The Jewish people have had their share and more of attacks from Satan, wearing many disquises, many were under the banner of Christians. This stigma will take some time to remove. However, we do not live in the past, this is not the 13th century and we as Christians today love, honor and respect the Jews and Isreal. There will still be Christians that will come there and share from there heart there love of Jesus, you cannot blame them, we have a saviour and want desperately to share Hime with you. When this happens, kindly say I am not interested thank you. G-d bless and be on your way. We serve the same G-d, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob the G-d of the living and not the Dead. Thank you for allowing us to visit your homeland and may He bless you and yours... Bernie

Being Jewish and believing in Yeshua as Messiah (of course it's possible)I am noticing an interesting opportunity in our present time. Up to this point, my people (Israel) has had a rather monolithic definition of what a "Christian" is. We called them crusaders, the people who forced us to convert under threat of death, the Catholic church which was into replacement theology, etc ... But they are, in fact, not monolithic. The Christian New Testament does in fact teach that (1)Christians are to greatly love Israel, that (2) God still holds Israel as His special treasure and a chosen people, and (3) that the Scriptures that Christians believe in and the God they worship were introduced to us by the Jewish people ... a fact of which we are eternally grateful. If we look further back than the crusades, etc we find that in the first 100 years after Yeshua, "Christianity" was considered to be just another sect of Judaism along with the newly forming Rabbinical Judaism. Evangelical Christians are not crusaders, they are not replacement theology adherents, and they are not anti-semetic. They are a very thankful people that feel they owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Jewish people for "being a light to the world" and reaching them with the knowledge of the one true God who created all things. What a wonderful thing it would be if we see them as those whom God would bring to help Israel out in a time when the rest of the world is lining up against the Jewish people. Didn't the Tanakh state that in the later days, Gentiles would rebuild the cities of Israel for the Jewish people, and that on their shoulders they would bring our children back to the land for us? What an opportunity ... what an important decision we must now make as we try in vain to convince the rest of the world of our right to exist, while literally millions of thankful, true friends are begging us to accept their love for us. What decision will history record that we made at this crucial time in history?

22  |   Erik Ronneberg, Tuesday Sep 25, 2007

Do not forget that Jesus is a friend of Israel, not only His followers. You can get to know Him by knowing His friends, but how much greater to meet Him in person? Read about how Saul, who used to kill Christians, was forgiven by Jesus, to understand His grace and mercy. He alone has perfect love for Israel.

23  |   Marcus, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

Christians are commanded to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. G_d's covenant with the descendents of Abraham and the Seed of David is irrevocable. Those who bless Israel will be blessed. The Jewish people have been persecuted, not only by the Catholic church, but by communism, naziism, islam, animism, and everywhere else they had been dispersed. We must remember that their persecution was prophesied. In part, they were persecuted because they are the chosen race and, as such, targets of the enemy of G_d, but also, because, according to their own written account in the Jewish Bible, they failed in being a "light to the gentiles" and in being faithful to the G_d and the Torah. G_d allowed them to be carried off to the ends of the earth, as He had said He would. Just as the church of Christianity failed G_d in many ways, so have the Jewish people. Today, two groups of people are being persecuted, hated and martyred more than any others. They are the true and faithful followers of Yeshua and the Jewish people. We have a common enemy because we have a common Father. If a Christian wants to be blessed, he/she should bless a Jewish person and Israel. If a Jewish person wants to be blessed, he/she might consider blessing a Christian.

24  |   Ron, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

Last year in Israel, at the Wall, a Jew asked if he could pray & bless me. When he finished, I thanked this son of Abraham. At the hotel, a door guard (a member of the IDF border guards)and I found instant rapport and he gave me the gift of a uniform insignia (which I treasure).

As a Christian, it is my duty to respect the Jew as my elder brother, who under great persecutions, kept his faith and preserved intact the word of G-d. I did not try to convert or proseletyze them. My duty is to simply love & support the Jewish people and leave the rest for G-d to lead.

I pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

25  |   Riz, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

The right wing neo-conservative Christians will only support Israel based on the assumption that the creation of Greater Israel will bring forth the arrival of Jesus and then the conversion of Jews to Christianity. Where were the Christians when the Jews were killed by Hitler. Today Christian minorities still exist in Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Lebanon; where as the Jews were the target of mass killings and expulsions. Muslims were expelled from Spain after 800 years - Mosques converted to Churches - similar to Bosnia in 1990s and Kosova today. Muslim minorities in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia and Russia are targets of persucation and missionary activity propoganda. Let us get our facts clear.

26  |   Miri, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

The article written by Benny Elon says it all. Here a Jew, overcome by the love for Israel and the Jewish people that the Christians have, states just that. I commend the Christians at this time. But I do say one thing, will you stand until the end? Persecution is going to arise for both of us. Will you be willing to by-pass perhaps your own flesh to save some Jewish people? How long does romantic love last?

27  |   Debra, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

To #16 - Muslims have killed and mistreated Jews from the beginning. Those of those who studied History are well aware of these facts.

28  |   Debra, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

To #11 Who are you to judge what other people feel for Israel? You can only speak of your personal experience, period!

29  |   judith nusbaum, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

I support MK Elon's words, however if he believes so strongly in the Christian support, why didn't he attend the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus' Women's Conference held in Jerusalem several months ago? I was there, where was he?

30  |   Jason, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

As an american christian, I have never once been anything but Israel's biggest supporter. When G-d promised Abraham land, many children, and many blessings. And He said (paraphrase) those who bless you, I will bless, and those who curse you, I will curse.

Blessed be the Lord, the G-d of Israel, and blessed be the children of Israel, his chosen people for all time.

"If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

It will never be too late for Israel. I will support you until my last breath, and so will any christian who has a true understanding of what the scriptures say.

31  |   Rachel, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

As a former "Messianic Jew" for some years, I can tell you that many Christian groups - some Baptists, ALL Christian Jews and some evangelicals want to convert the Jews. HOWEVER - most Evangelicals are entirely sincere and passionate about their support for Israel and the Jews. We had spoken at many churches in the U.S. for Yom Kippur, Pesach, etc...and they are hungry for teaching from Tanakh. BIBLICAL Judaism is the source of the revelation...NOT the last great Greek Mystery Religion (Christianity) OR the Rabbinic re-invention that took place in the galut. I say to the rabbis who so zealously guard their "flock" - why are they so worried about conversion? I think because, as another writer exclaimed, the heredim (with some notable exceptions, of course) in particular have done a persistent, tragic disservice to the Jewish community at large by making "Judaism" - which is viewed as monolithic in Israel (take it as they present it or be entirely secular)unattractive, superstitious, grossly anachronistic and cultish. As Rav Kook stated, the "holiness of exile' - the shtetl mentality of enforced separation and repulsion of the hostile galut environment- cannot be viable in Israel, which in and of itself is a "natural holiness". The very qualities necessary for life in this Land - assertiveness, knowledge and education, engagement, strength, non-appeasement (in otherwords, the Biblical characteristics of a people) - are the very traits discouraged by necessity or choice in the galut. Unfortunately, rather than reaching out to the public to show them the overwhelming love and presence of Hashem, many of these rabbis and the haredim at large have turned off the very people they should be reaching.

WAKE UP! We cannot continue eating our own flesh and survive this. Let's get BACK TO THE BOOK, not to an invention of a tradition that did not exist when we were rulers over our Land before the Temple was destroyed. This Rabbinic Judaism is just that - an understandable if ultimately corrosive adaptation designed to ensure the survival of the Jewish people. I believe that, over the years and especially now back in our own Land, this increasing retreat and radicalisation will wind up destroying the very survival of the Jewish people that they wanted to ensure.

"Without a vision the people perish".

32  |   Rachel, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

All "Christians" are not the same - the Evangelicals are radically different than the Greek Orthodox and the Roman Catholics - both traditionally and, in the Middle East now, mainly rabidly anti-Judaic because their dogman teaches they have supplanted the Jews as the "Chosen People" and the sceptre is now carried by them. The Evangelicals, for the most part, believe the Jews were and ARE the original "Chosen People" and they have been "grafted into the vine" of the covenant. Therefore, they have NOT SUPPLANTED the Jews but have, in essence, joined them. Most do not believe all the Jews must believe in Jesus before the 2nd coming and the "Tribulation" or the "7 years of Jacob's trouble". The Romans and Greeks don't actually believe in this prophecy.

SO - before we all start getting our panties in a wad, let's know which Christian theology we are talking about. This is a very complex issue that could wind up hurting US if we start painting with too broad a stroke.

33  |   Rachel, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

ARAB CHRISTIANS for the most part have, in order to placate and appease the Arab Muslims to prevent the unspeakable carnage and humiliation the "Dhimmi" Christians (and the Jews) have endured at the hands of the Muslims in the Middle East - ESPECIALLY in "Palestine" - have become the WORST anti-Judaic, anti-Semetic and anti-Zionist forces today. Of course, as Churchill once quipped, "He who appeases the crocodile is merely the last one eaten." Despite the grovelling these Arab Christians (as well as European Christians located in the ME)have done, the more radically pro "Palestinian" and pro terrorism they have become trying the be "more Arab than the Arab" to prove how loyal they are, the worse it gets for them. Look at the destruction in of churches in Bethlehem, in Gaza, in Iraq, etc...Read a book by Bat Ye-or called "Islam and Dhimmitude: Where CIvilisations Colllide". Not a diatribe - scholarly and very well footnoted. ARAB CHRISTIANS DO NOT REPRESENT EVANGELICALS IN ANY WAY.

34  |   Tucker, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

Christians and the Jewish Nation need to cling to one another as brothers and worry about theological differences later. I read the Jewish Prophets words and Yeshua's words on what is coming on the world. They match up. A terrible wrath is coming on the entire globe. Joel, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Revelations, Daniel, my particular favorite-Zechariah..and Yeshua's discourse Mark 13, Luke 21, and Matthew 24, on end of days, give an extraordinary glimpse into a time of trouble for the nations as have never been before since the beginning of time. Israel will survive and prevail.. the outcome for the other nations..horrific, few people will survive.

Ahmadinejad could be the trigger, who knows? I know his outcome and hell is excited about meeting him.

Shalom Israel, G-d is with you, He has provided at least 85 million evangelical friends.

"If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

I want to say to every Christian ,and even ask him/ her,do Israel people seek God's face in Jesus Christ????!!!! Please Amercan peole ans westeren Eurupian peopole be aware of what you belief.Israel people do not belive in Jesus Christ, on the contrary they are enemey. Our call to people pf Israel to repent and seek God's face in Jesus face and not in the old testament.

It will never be too late for Israelto repent. We as Arab Christian love Muslims and Jewsh to seek God in the face of Our Saviour Jesus Christ I will support you until my last breath, and so will any christian who has a true understanding of what the scriptures say.

36  |   Yigal Kahana, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

The author is basically correct.

As a Jew and a historian, I know that Evangelical Christians are not a problem right now.

Paul IV (MHRIH) is dead. So are the Jew haters Ambrose of Milan and John Chrysostom; the Jew killers Godfrey of Bouillon and Giovanni (John) di Capistrano; and almost all their ilk.

If they were alive today, they'd be called bigots.

We are living in a new era, in the aftermath of Nostra Aetate and Vatican II. Long live the legacy of John XXIII.

Christianity now is not the same thing as when the Inquisition was operating, and nations and kings took Papal excommunications seriously.

No, the Christian world has gone through the Enlightenment, and is no longer the religion of bigots and murderers it was in earlier centuries.

If anything, Christians and Jews now share the same problem: a dangerous lack of self-confidence.

As the current Pope said while he was still a cardinal, "The West no longer loves itself."

Unprincipel, shallow, hyper-liberalism

is much more of a problem than triumphalist relligio-centrism.

Israel's biggest problem is also purely an internal matter; a dangerous loss of self-confidence and priorities. This is hurting Israel's unity.

Muslim Supremacists are the next biggest problem.

Christians did not kill Danny Pearl, or blow up the Trade Towers, or the Bamyan Buddhas. Or riot at cartoons, or slaugther old women because of newspaper articles.

If some Rabbis are afraid of Christian missionaries, they should do a better job teaching young Jews enough about their own heritage that they won't need to fear missionizing.

But as the world stands today, Christians are our friends and allies against Islamofascism.

God bless you, friendly Christians.

Happy Sukkot to everyone.

Politics and Religion can be a devisive topic for me and most folks.

Let'd talk about our hobbies, our families, your last fishing trip or camping trip. Where have you traveled and foods do you like and don't like? What do you like to laugh about, care about, and cry about.

After we visit and spend some time together we might learn to respect each other a little and hear the small voice of our fellow man.

And who knows that voice may be God's voice too.

38  |   Tina Schultz, Wednesday Sep 26, 2007

I am a believer in the God that created Heaven and Earth. The God that walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The God that spoke to Moses and revealed Himself in His fullness on Mt. Sini. I believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And I am a believer in Jesus Christ as the Messiah. I believe and love the one and only God of the Bible Old and New testament. And I love His chosen people the Jews and love the land of Israel. And I am greatful to the Jews for bring Gods word to me. You call me a Christian, I call myself a lover of the most high God.

My husband and I have visited the Holy Land many times, and I hope we can visit again soon. How else can we support you? We will continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalum.

In Love With The God Of Israel

As a true Christian I support Israel.

My husband and I visited your country

last December and it left a greater love for your people than ever. I asked my guide if the Jews believed in a great tribulation in the end times. He said they did, but they have already had so many could it be worse!

I have read alot of comments on what Christians have done to Jews and I want to make something very clear. Because you call yourself a Christian and are a member of a church does not make you one. If Jews want to identify a true Christian get a copy of the New Testament and read it. The greatest Christian ever did not want to hurt Jews in any way. He just wanted to die for them.

To our Jewish brothers and sisters...

May the one and only God, Creator of heaven and earth and of all mankind, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, smile upon you today. May he bless you and your land abundantly give you peace.

We Christians read the Holy Word of God through the prophets of the Old Testament and from the disciples of the New Testament.

Christians are not perfect and it is obvious from past generations that satan mislead many to persecute the Jewish people. But as is written in the N.T. about young men will dream and old men will see visions, we are upon the ages of God revealing His great power in that as Israel is surrounded by haters of the true, living God, He will strike them down and then all will know He is God.

Yes, we believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God. Have you ever thought during the time of His ministry on earth, that the the Jewish leaders and gentiles ruling mislead the people??

This is why I love you becuase you are God's annointed children in this world... but he created us gentiles also and wishes no one to perish to hell. Jesus came, died for all sins and will come again to save His church and bring belief to the Jewish people.

Pray to Yahweh to reveal Himself to you.

God's blessings and peace be with you.

Proverbs Chapter 3, verses 3-7.

Shalom from a US Christian-

I to am a Christian who also has a Jewish Carpenter for my Messiah and read a Jewish Bible.

As Christians we have a God Given Duty to help and support our Spiritual Brothers and Sisters which are the Jewish People to whom we owe a great debt of gratitude. The Jewish People are God first and chosen people and as gentiles with no hope of approaching God for His Mercy and Grace we were doomed for all eternity. Had He not had Mercy and opened a door through the Jewish People and His Royal Bloodline we would still be without hope. As Christians we must accept our debt to God and His Chosen People by helping and supporting them and the Land HE gave them to the ends of our resources and even untill death if necessary. As a Christian I am ashamed at our government's behavior as well as many so called Christians in the past who have not taken a strong and unwavering position in support of Jewish People everywhere.

God Bless Israel !!!

God Bless His Chosen Jewish People !!!

I pray for the Peace of Israel and Jerusalem daily and know God will NEVER abandon His People and the Land He gave them!!!

Reply to #28 from #11 The question was asked of me or anyone interested to respond to the article on xenophobic feelings between Christians & Jews, this I did! Many "feelings", opinions, ect. come from personal experience but instead of "period" as you say, my "feelings" also come from examining the source documents for what many say they believe! And again I will say that when beliefs are carefully examined many times they are from what one has heard not studied! Incidently what are your opinions on xenophobia between Christian & Jew alike? You forgot to say.

It is very sad, that YHWH, through the pen of Yir'm'yahw, forbad certain of the Jewish people to pronounce his name!(Jeremiah 44:26)That is what happens, when people flee from their chastisement at the hand of a merciful Elohim, fleeing, as it were, to Egypt to avoid the Babylonian captivity. Only the "good figs" went as they should, for correction, and to this very day, there are both Jews and Christians who despise the name, YHWH, of their father in heaven. Repent, you priests and Kohanim who despise the name of YHWH! Take Malachi 1:6 to heart, and let us be restored to him! Then the two can become one again, and together subdue the Philishtim. Beruch habah b'shem Yahweh! Yahshua loves us this we know, for the bible tells us so! Have a good one!

Was that potato hot enough for you??

Thank you for saying what seems to me to be the view of most Christians that we (Jews and Christians)are in this together. We share a common goal of survival and many similarities, whether we all choose to recognize this or not. Our religious differences are something very minor that any of us should easily overcome.

I can only tell you that as a tiny child I was taught to love the Jewish People by my mother (she is now 87). Her parents taught her to love the Jewish People.

In my heart is a special place that only the Jewish People can hold. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem every morning faithfully. I pray every morning for the Nation and Land of Israel, and for all the Jewish People living in Israel and around the world.

Jews and Christians are the ONLY people in the entire world who serve the same G-d, the Most High G-d, Jehovah. My mind and heart are connected to Israel and the Jewish People by an invisible cord. We are loved with an everlasting love. I love the Old Testament....I have studied it for many years with deep hunger for G-d's Word, and for true understanding. I am just a Christian woman, age 62,...imperfect, I realize, but I love the Law with all of my being. It is written in my heart, and to me keeping the 10 Commandments is not difficult....I have a made-up mind to live it G-d's way one day at a time. It is my JOY.

I love you all dearly.

GOD BLESS ISRAEL..and the PEACE of JERUSALOM.. I would like to say to all chirstians that the future bride of Jesus Christ has no command or authority to tell the WIFE of GOD anything. We are not married to Chirst yet. We are to LOVE,PRAY, and stand with Israel till her salvation is acomplished. Israel is GOD's chosen people and he will save all Israel. The Cathlic Church's Doctrine/and any other chirstian church, concerning this is simple doctrins of demons .

Israeli Ministry of Tourism shall build a permanent space in Jerusalem aimed to promote events related to all faiths on earth: conferences, films, libraries, arts, exhibitions, gifts.

Mentioned space shall be, first of all, a sign of evolution of mankind, the example to all earth that religions can live together without extremisms or violence. Second, each faith will provide the space with High Judges who will examine matters touching more than one faith at same time. Third, as mentioned at the beginning, the place is aimed also for tourism purposes, for anyone interested on learning other faiths including his own.

But the fourth point I will mention here is the most important of all and for all: It will be there, on the beautiful and specially prepared roof of that place, that a powerful envoy of G'd or G'd Himself will appear one very important day to all of us.

Over one half of the world's population is Christian, Jewish, or Muslim. The Muslims await the Maadhi, the religious Jews await Elijah and then the Messiah, Christians wait for the return of Yeshua. When the Jewish Messiah comes, will He come only for the Jewish people or will He come for all people? Is G_d the G_d of the Jewish people only or of all of Heaven and Earth? If the "Maadhi" comes in the spirit of the current Muslim extremists, G-d help us all. Yeshua said it plainly to the Samaritan woman, "Salvation is of the Jews". Evangelical Christians believe, as the New Testament declares, that we are the wild branch that was grafted on to the trunk of the olive that had been cut back. Some have a problem with the infinite G_d limiting Himself to be confined in the body of a created man. Who did Jacob wrestle with all night? Who appeared as a man to Abraham? Why did Abraham pay tithes to a non-Jewish Melchizedek? I believe with all my heart that Yeshua is the answer. For the Jews He is the Son of David and a priest in the order of Melchizedek. For the Christian goyim, He is the Son of God who paid the debt of sin cancelling the curse that says "the soul that sins shall surely die." giving us access to the presence of G_d through His sacrifice. To the decendents of Ishmael who were sent away with Hagar, He is the Son of their father Abraham who returns them to be children of promise and heirs of the blessings of Abraham. I am a follower of Yeshua, a lover of Israel and the Jewish people, and I pray that the sons of Ishmael will find their inheritance to the blessing of Abraham through Abraham's promised Seed that would bless all families on earth, Yeshua.

The very existence of Israel serves as verification of G_d's promise to the Christian. Modern Protestant Christianity teaches nothing less than absolute loyalty to the Jewish people - especially since 1948. Indeed, rest easier knowing that the hearts and minds of hundreds of millions consider the people of Israel as a brother.

51  |   Mark van Niekerk, Thursday Sep 27, 2007

Who are the Christians? It was the same problem Elijah had with the LORD concerning Jews. "I am the only one who loves You." Of course the reply we all know. "No Elijah, I have reserved 7000 who have not bowed to Baal." Israels biggest problem is their inability to discern betwen true and

false. Slowly getting into bed with Rome will lead to disaster for Jews. Understanding what Isaiah wrote in chapter 40 is critical. Israel needs to be comforted, and Isaiah tells us exactly how. Tell her her sins have been forgiven. If so then they need to find out by Whom. Certainly it was a sad day for me to experience the slaughtering of chickens to make kappura at the Jerusalem shuk. True Christians are those who would reason sensitively from the Jewish Scriptures as to how sin is atoned for, since there is no temple. False Chritians will resort to signing documents saying "we love you Jews", without sharing that, the love of Israel is based on the finished works of the Messiah, Yeshua. Theologically we can only stand because we hold to the promises made to the Jewish people. Apart from those promises there is no such thing as the "church."

My prayer is that all Jews will find true shalom in the One that came to "le shalem".

I should like to think that after the horrors of the Holocaust most Christian churches, most Christians have felt morally compelled to revise their former anti-semitic attitudes and to embrace their brethren of the 'Old Testament'. That is apart from a minority(?) of Christian fanatics in Catholic Poland and Orthodox Russia.

As for the heading of the article -

the following adage applies:

MY ENEMY'S ENEMY IS MY FRIEND!

53  |   Kenny, Thursday Sep 27, 2007

For those who know prophecy, whatever happens to the Jewish people is a reflection of what is happening to the "Church"- Bible believing Christians. I personally am a born again Christian- I would wish everyone chose to, but no matter what, no matter the disagreements/agreements that may exist between the faiths, I, 100 % support the Jewish people- they do not have to agree with me on anything- The promises God has made to me through them is enough. So for all the Jewish people remember- Whatever happens to you shows me as a Christian what our God is doing in the Church. Shalom.

I don't believe the recent rabbinc rulings and concerns with regards to missionary activity in Israel have anything to do with outdated fears of anti-Semitism or the hareidization of the Chief Rabbinate. Nor does it have to do with us not appreciating Christians who stand with Israel. It is not a simple friend or foe issue. This a serious religious matter. In our enthusiasm to embrace our Christian

friends, we have turned a blind eye to the rampant missionizing that is taking place in Israel. I think Benny Elon and the Christian Allies Caucus should make this matter a top concern and priority, rather than deny it. Work with the rabbis on it. We as Jews have to realize that we can have political and economic alliances without selling our souls. Acting responsibly when working with people of other faiths is a principle of our faith. This is not an all or nothing relationship. One can be a proud Jew and adhere to the halacha.

To #29 Judith. MK Rabbi Benny Elon did not attend the Summit, because he lost an appeal after being shown evidence of missionary activity (including among Caucus members) and he decided to honor the decision of the Chief Rabbinate.

55  |   inkeri, Thursday Sep 27, 2007

Christians are missioners trying to convince people of other religions to join them. The idea of beig Christian is based on the twelve apostles and their mission to spread the Word. If you get help from a Christian you also get a lecture in their religion, whether you wanted or not. If you can live with that or not, it`s up to you.

James ('of old') (No. 47) ought to be sure of his facts before he goes making ignorant statements about the Catholic Church and their approach to the Jews. Catholics follow Jesus Christ - he was a Jew. Peter was the first Pope (Christ's decision - the keys of the kingdom etc etc) was also a Jew. Perhaps James would beg to differ with Christ on this, but he'll have to do that in God's own time. Pope John Paul II apologised for atrocities committed agains the Jews by Catholics. Without the Jews there would be no Christianity. Christ didn't come to earth as a Christian - he came as a Jew FOR A REASON.

As a Christian I thank G-d for the Jews. For through them we have the Bible and Yeshua. For that I say Thank You with all my heart and G-d Bless you all.

I am a Christian who prefers to not be labeled as liberal or conservative. As a child of G_d I embrace, love and respect G_d's chosen people. From the moment I entered elementary school I have been blessed to have many friends of the Hebrew faith! Conversion is an unknown commodity in our relationships. So many of my friends are so much better at practicing their faith than myself. I am ever so thankful that the Hebrew faith gave me the opportunity to know the true G_d. I pray for the peace of Israel and all the people that G_d called his chosen. When one speaks of salvation I attribute mine to the Hebrew peoples who first introduced me to a monotheistic G_d who holds civilzation in the palm of His hand. Who am I to preach conversion to the people's who were first chosen by the Almighty!

Anyone supporting the State of Israel should be welcome,- whether Jew, Christian or Moslem or any other religion. However, it must be understood by all of them that it is and will remain a Jewish State, with all that it entails.

But herein lies the problem.

Too many people, including some Jews, misunderstand what it means to be "a Jewish State" and prefer to have a "secular" State, even though it will be populated by a majority of Jewish people. Perhaps the Minister for Tourism could print a simple booklet in lay-language, explaining the meaning of "Jewish Nationality". Only then will the world not only accept Israel as the home of the Jewish people, but also Israel as the one and only "Jewish State".

Meeting Israelis in and outside Israel, I find that they often don't understand why we from other parts of the world, look upon them as Jews first, while they think of themselves as Israelis first and foremost.

Isaiah 14:1 "For Adonai will have compassion on Ya'akov_ he will once again choose Isra'el and resettle them in their own land, where foreigners will join them, attaching themselves to the house of Ya'akov."

That's why there is a deep love in our hearts, the Lord is drawing us.

"I will bless them who bless you and curse those who curse you". As a Christian and an American I am a great supporter of the Jewish people and Israel. Israel is GOD's time piece and we Conservative Evangelical Christians keep our eyes fixed on what goes on in Israel.

GOD BLESS Israel!!!

In ancient history, when the kindoms surrounding Israel were being shaken by people like Nebuchadnezzar, Cyrus the Great, Alexander the Great, or Julius Caesar, the Jewish people, most of the time, were primarily occupied with trying to keep their balance. The rabbis' edict should be taken in light of this historical precedent. In Christendom, when you play marbles for keeps, you always protect your winners with a cheater. [ a sinker ]

Israel is in a time of danger, unparalleled since the Yom Kippur War. Sunday, Oct 7 is the 4th annual International Day of Prayer for Israel. Churches and congregations from many streams of Christianity throughout the world will be joining in prayer for Israel. Multiplied millions of believers, led by our pastors, will be storming heaven for Israel, Psalm 122:6. Israel, we love you and stand w/ you forever!!!

64  |   Ray Jeter, Friday Sep 28, 2007

I am a Christian. I do love Israel. Why? I was taught from a very young age to always defend Israel because they are the Chosen People. I was "drafted in the tree". Israel is the tree. God Bless Israel. God bless America through Israel!

65  |   Inge, Friday Sep 28, 2007

I'm a Christian, who love the Jewish people so much, I wish I could be Jewish! It's important to realize that those people who call themselves Christians that hate the Jewish people have never really put their trust in God, neither are they true Christians. Too much has been done in the past, in the name of Christianity and Christ, to harm the nation of Israel. The Bible, including the Tanach, commands people everywhere to love Israel. After all, they are God's special people. Therefore, anyone who claims to be a Christian and hates the jewish people, have something seriously wrong in their lives! That's why I prefer not to be called a Christian, but a believer in the Messiah.

A True Christian would always help the Jewish people, someone such as Corrie Ten Boom, who was imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp because she hid Jewish people in her home during WW2. That's what God commands of us, and I for one would always stand behind the Nation of Israel. They are God's chosen people, and God is not finished with Israel. End time prophesy states that clearly. I think it's in the book of Daniel in the Tanach. It's also in many other places, including the book of Revelation in the Christian Bible. As Christians, it is our duty to stand behind Israel, to love the Jewish people, to support them, and most importantly, to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, like it says in the Psalms I think. A true Christian would stand behind Israel, no matter what. Those who name the name of Christ unfortunately don't all realize this, and the jew hater has never really committed himself to God, or to ha Maschiach, which we believe has already come, but is coming again very very soon! True Christians really and truly are allies of Israel and condemn the actions of those who harm the Jewish people in the name of Christ.

66  |   Ben, Friday Sep 28, 2007

Unity is what we need not petty arguments! - Jews were, are and will remain forever as an everlasting convenant with the Almighty God's People! Jesus said in John 4 (....you Samaritans (gentiles) worship what you do not know We (Jews) worship what we do know for Salvation is from the Jews) Jews by the hand of God will be saved, Christians our duty is to show them the Love of God through our faith in Jesus

67  |   Inge, Friday Sep 28, 2007

I am a Christian. A true Christian loves and supports Israel, because that is what Ha Shem commands us to do. To the question of will we stand by you to the end? For sure we will!!! Too much has been done in the past in the name of Christianity, which was carried out by those who were using the name of Christ, but not being true followers of Christ. A true follower of Christ would support the Jew, love the Jew and even die for the Jew. Such was Corrie ten Boom, who hid Jewish people and was imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp during World War 2. True Christians have placed their trust in the Messiah, and a change in our lives have taken place. We are commanded to love the Jewish people. Anybody who hates the Jew is not a true follower of the Messiah, even though they may use the name of the Messiah. The true follower of the Messiah, or true Christian, would stand by the Jew until "death do us part". The true Christian loves the Jew and would do anything to help the Jew. If anybody hates a Jew, he is not a true Christian, although he may use the name of Christ.
