The Israeli Initiative: No one will 'rape' Israel

US President George W. Bush arrived in Israel today for a historic visit and I for one am very nervous. I am nervous not because I think he has any bad intentions but rather because I believe his Israeli counterparts do.

A couple of weeks ago, Israel was betrayed by one of our own in front of the whole world. On September 10, at a formal dinner hosted by America's Ambassador to Israel, Ha'aretz editor David Landau sold our country out to the US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice. In his fanatic rant, Landau called Israel a "failed state" and appealed to have the US "rape Israel', forcing her into submission by requiring a US- imposed settlement and humiliating us in front of the entire world.

I am appalled, disappointed and ashamed by the inexcusable comments that David Landau made to a member of a foreign government. I am also greatly distressed by the lack of public response to his words. Landau does not represent even a percentage of the public opinion in Israel and had his tirade been covered in the Hebrew media, the Israeli public surely would have protested.

Israel is not a failed state. Israel is a modern miracle, born out of the ashes of the Holocaust, forced into immediate conflict and made to fight for our very existence. G-d returned the land of Israel to the Jewish people and He is facilitating the return of the exiles before our very eyes.

The problem in Israel is not that David Landau felt it necessary to betray his country and heritage to a diplomat from a foreign country. The problem is that with the exception of Makor Rishon, not one Hebrew media outlet reported this atrocity.

This is a symptom of a greater problem in our country. This is why voting percentages are down, a corrupt government is allowed to stay in power and the Israeli population at large has thrown up its hands in defeat. This is why no matter how many initiatives have failed based on the concept of land for peace; our government continues to push these ludicrous plans.

The leftist media in Israel continues to reward coverage only to those pushing plans that will ultimately destroy our country. Anyone who stands up and speaks out against committing national suicide is a considered a fanatic or an extremist. Just look at the facts. The nationalist camp has predicted every disaster from the Lebanon withdrawal, to Oslo and Disengagement but no one from the left has ever come out and apologized for these mega blunders. In fact these same politicians are still running the country. How is that possible?

The answer is that these plans have also been the agenda of our media. Go back to the coverage of disengagement and how they hailed Sharon as a hero or how they spoke of the brilliance of Oslo. In more recent events, look at the media's new darling; the Annapolis conference and the emphasis that has been placed on dividing Jerusalem.

Now let's go to the case of David Landau. This incident is a national disgrace. It has been reported all over the world but the Hebrew media has completely avoided it. The silence is deafening. In fact, the vast majority of Israelis don't even know it happened.

Israel needs to wake up and realize that we are under attack. From outside and from within. We need a national information campaign to let our fellow brothers and sisters know that things can be better. Israelis need to hold their heads up high and be proud again. To this end, I have launched the Israeli Initiative and worked to find new and exciting methods to penetrate the Hebrew media, including a trailer I released entitled "The Last Fanatic". I believe that the average Israeli loves this country and sees it as a great source of pride. We need that spirit to embolden the entire country to speak out and declare that no one will rape Israel. This is the message that we need to send to President Bush and I believe he will stand by us if we do.

Haaretz is an embarassment. Thank G-d Jpost is still fair and balanced. Way to take Landau to task MK Elon. Kol Hakavod!!!

Mr. Elon is right, of course. I find it incomprehensible that Israelis, who live in such a tiny, vulnerable piece of land, cannot or will not see the danger of leftist policies and their extraordinarily corrupt government. May G-d open the eyes of the people to see what is truly happening. May He give them the resolve to oust their current government. May He give them the wisdom to realise that the US is not in a position to be able to guarantee their security if they continue to give away their land to their enemies.

I spend a lot of time reading the newspapers and I didn't see David Landau's shameful piece! HaAretz is of course well known for its continuing support of despised groups like Peace Now, Machsom Watch and others. Groups that are made up of total non-achievers whose only claim to fame is betrayal! Rice has now come out of the closet and makes statements such as .. "her childhood in the segregated U.S. south helped her to understand the plight of Palestinians and the fear felt by Israelis". No wonder she and David Landau resonate!

Israel suffers from tyranny of the leftist press and a vicious cycle which sustains its monolpoy on the truth. David Landau is the editor of Ha'aretz and it is only natural that he will not publish his own dastardly remarks lest he draw condemnation and be shown up as the Israel bashing, self hating, post Zionist he really is. He must be taken to task by other newspapers or else by one of his own "token" rightists. It would be best to expose him on Mabat or a prime time talk show, but the left controls the public owned media as well.

Apparently Mr. Landau has had quite the history of pushing this. In an article posted at the following link http://www.nysun.com/article/68612 mr Landau has been pushing this agenda since the 70's. I as a Christian in the U.S. I TOTALLY disagree with the giving of land for Peace and the thought of giving Jeruselam (even a tiny portion) makes me sick to my stomach. What I find truly disturbing is that he still calls Israel's presence "an occupation". Thank you for your terrific and wonderful thoughts on this Mr. Elron, may G-d bless your efforts and G-d bless Israel! Kol Hakavod

So many years Jews have been persecuted that some of us began to despise their own nation. These individuals think I am not as bad as all Jews, I am much better. Therefore, I should criticise Israel. Such a trend is known not only in Israel but in the US, where to castigate Israel is rife. I think that the current government in Israel is the source of such journalism. Strong leaders beget brave nations, and in the oipposite, the failures at the helm create Landaus.

Landau's statements nauseate. His portrayal of Israel as a state that needs to be rescued from itself is deplorable. What Israel does need to be rescued from is a leftist judiciary that has colluded with the media to force post-Zionist, defeatist views down the throats of the Israeli public. A viable democracy depends on an informed public. I pray MK Elon and the Israel Initiative succeed at expanding the public policy dialogue to include views other than those of Ha'aretz.

To understand the actions of the Israel "government" and this Landau's remarks: 2000 years ago the Talmud predicted that a Sign that the Days of the Final Redemption have arrived is that Chutzpah will flurish, the young will insult the elders, and worst, the descendants of the Gentile Mixed Multitude that left Egypt with the Jews and built the Golden Calf, would rule Israel. So we see the prediction has come true. But it appears few Jews are aware of this.

I talk with a lot of different people about the middle east and I can tell you one thing: Those who hate Israel, read Ha'aretz.

Inspite of the negative comments, coming from within or without Israel, against the land of Israel AND whatever happens today, tomorrow or after, rest assured Mr. Elon, that after the whole world comes crashing down, Israel will still be standing. TRUE ISRAEL will continue to stand firm in the promises given by THE ALMIGHTY, THE CREATOR to your fathers of old.

Very sane man. Too bad he's not running the country, or the media.

MK Elon, When you are Prime Minister, please remember to prosecute these traitors. You should start a list.

I am in total agreement with the Israeli initiative. Although I wasn't born in Israel, I feel very much a part of it and feel it is also my home land. I pray everyday for the peace of Israel and the great city, Jerusalem. I pray the Israeli initiative will go foward and that our president will support it and reconize its value. May God bless your work. I LOVE ISRAEL. Shalom!

Unfortunately, David Landau's comments are typical of the mainstream journalists in Israel .It is disgusting that he could so debase Israel by begging Condoleeza Rice into 'raping' it into submission. In a democracy, people are of course, able to criticize anything that they please, including the State of Israel, but the trouble with the left is that they are so blinded with hatred and criticism of Israel, that they never find anything positive to say and solely focus on what they perceive to be the enormous 'injustices' which they accuse Israel of.

Mr Elon, you give us hope. G-d bless you and give you strength. I'm also offended by Landau's statements and distressed that there was no national reaction to them. If this is due to lack of Hebrew media coverage, maybe something could still be done: people could distribute Hebrew translations of the report in every synagogue, in street corners, in shopping malls. And particularly, let's disseminate those statements in the western media. Americans need to know what the Israeli left is really about.

Hear hear!!! If I were Israeli I'd vote NU/NRP (but since I'm American I'll vote Republican) ;-)

Kol Hakovad Benny Elon- Everything the Left has done to bring peace has brought just the opposite. It brings terror, missiles and more war. Why? Because weakness is sickening to the enemy. Like a weak animal, they seek to finish it off. Only a strong Israel who asserts her right to the Land and defeats her enemy conclusively will bring lasting peace. Only borders to the Jordan, Erertz Israel will bring lasting peace.

Finally some sense in a country that seems to have gone mad. This is why I voted NU/NRP and will continue to. "The Last Fanatic" is also an effective tool. Please let's stop hating ad destroying ourselves, and instead let's adopt the kind of internally-motivated dignity that MK Elon represents.
