Israel's entry ban of Richard Falk

Imagine the UN appointing David Duke to report on how Blacks are victimizing whites, or Hugo Chavez to report on American foreign policy, or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to investigate whether the Holocaust occurred.

Well the UN has done something comparable by appointing Richard Falk as its supposedly impartial "rapporteur" on Israeli actions in the Palestinian territories. For those of you who don't know who Richard Falk is, he is a notorious crackpot who believes that the United States is hiding the truth about 9/11, implying that our government has "complicity" in that terrorist attack and that its role "taints the legitimacy of the American government" which he has characterized as "fascist." His rants have become fodder for conspiracy nuts all over the world who claim that America and Israel orchestrated the attacks.

Hamas has declared war on Israel - how should Israel respond?

Article 51 of the United Nations Charter guarantees its members "the inherent right to...individual self defense" against "an armed attack." In January 2006, Hamas was elected to govern the Palestinian Authority. After Israel ended its occupation of Gaza and removed all of its settlers, Hamas threw the Palestinian Authority out of the Gaza and assumed de facto as well as de jure control over the entire Gaza Strip. Its leaders then instructed its military wing to direct rockets at civilian targets in southern Israel. At first these rockets were Kassams with a relatively short range. Now they include Katyushas, which can reach Israel's large cities, including Ashkelon, with its population of 120,000 civilians. Hamas has officially declared that its policy is to develop or smuggle even longer range missiles capable of reaching Israel's largest city Tel Aviv and its lifeblood, Ben Gurion Airport. It has promised to keep aiming its missiles at civilian targets until the Jewish state is finally destroyed.

Kevin Farrell, Decatur, Georgia USA: Mr Dershowitz has his facts wrong. Why is this for such an erudite person? The killing of Salah Shehadeh involved more than a "few civilians" To be specific Israel dropped a 2,000 pound bomb on an apartment complex in oine of the most densely populated areas in the world. Besides Shehadeh 17 others were killed. This included 15 civilians 11 of whom were children + 150 wounded. What faulty intelligenceis there that Israel did not know civilians were around? Mr. Dershowitz is not entitled to his own facts.
Dav Lev: I am an Independed and voted for John McCain. I saw through the do-nothing President and his outrageous promises to CHANGE everything, from the grassroots. That approach got him the teenage vote and the votes of fanciful minorities who believe in Takkun Olam..heal the world and treat their maladies..before your own. He didn't disappoint me..nothing he had proposed has come to fruition..AND he has flip flopped..Iraq, Afghanistan, labor, world trade, gays in the military, etc. He has the majorities in Congress...so what? It's about deeds, not teleprompter words. In 2010, vote them out.
Dav Lev: Charlie Rose keeps on repeating the same old, tired line, that we have been engaged in the worst foreign debacle ever. He does this in the way he interviews his guests. He is watched by millions on PBS. He also appears occasionally on CBS. From time to time, he suggests that those involved in making legitimate actions which might be construed as torture, or those people who promoted the Iraqi invasion..be tried, be held accountable. I say, hows about prosecuting the people per this article..in intelligence. I mean their lies could have resulted in a nuclear exchange.
