Double Standard Watch: Hizbullah's genocidal threat Posted by Alan Dershowitz
Comments: 46
The leader of Hizbullah Sheik Hassan Nasrallah has now called for revenge against Israelis and Jews around the world, for the assassination of Imad Mughniyeh, which he claims was done by Israel. It does not matter, of course, who actually pulled off the assassination. Israel and the Jews would be blamed by Hizbullah even if Syria had been responsible. Blame Israel and the Jews for everything is what Hizbullah always does. In the past, Hizbullah has taken revenge against what it claimed to be Israeli actions by murdering Jewish schoolchildren in Argentina. Once again it is threatening to attack innocent Jews around the world. Yet some in the media describe this as a cycle of violence, thus suggesting moral equivalence between the targeting of a terrorist combatant responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians, and the random murder of innocent men, women and children who had absolutely nothing to do with the targeted killing of Imad Mughniyeh, but just happen to be Jewish. Sheik Hassan Nasrallah's call for the killing of Jews around the world is nothing short of an incitement to genocide, or at least to mass murder. There is no moral equivalent between military action that targeted a terrorist combatant and the targeting of innocent civilians around the world, based on their religion. Until the media understands this crucial, moral and legal distinction, we will all be vulnerable to the genocidal revenge tactics of Hizbullah and other terrorist organizations.

We, Jews, have a long experience of being kept collectively responsible for whatever is wrong, or considered like that, beginning with the very crucifixion of Jesus...
In this case, however obviously not responsible, I feel deeply satisfied with the issue. Is that morally sufficient for condemninng me to death?

We are doing what we are doing...never again!

The media has managed to side step legal responsibility by talking in general terms. The media of today has totally rejected moral responsibility for the words it uses and chooses to try and paint Israel in a bad light no matter what the circumstances. I think that though we must battle this moral misconduct, Israel must realise that it is fighting a losing battle on this front and put its energies into winning the practical war against our neighbours.

Professor Dershowitz has called the spade a spade as he always is the master of precise language. Imad was not a member of the human race he was a giant Ebola virus on two legs. As for the death of a mad dog killer of innocent women and children and peacekeeping troops this was akin to using a disinfectant on a commode seat. As for him being a martyr that must stand for murder all religions taint yourn.

As a Jewish American who passionately win it- why can's Israel do the same ?
6 | Larry B., Sunday Feb 17, 2008
Why hasn't Israel wiped out these terorist groups years ago. Forget about world opinion! Israel should have done to these Arab organizations what the US did to Japan in 1942. The funeral procession was a perfect target to wipe out the infrastructure. Why aren't the families of terrorists wiped out so that these terrorists know there will be price paid for their actions, even after their deaths ? I do not believe that this is too simplistic. Every other country fights a war to
win, why can't Israel ?

Nobody says it better then Mr. Dershowitz.

i stand with israel my brothers and sisters.

Mr. Dershowitz, your comments are always logic, pointed and clear.
What we need to understand is what Kafkian drive makes the media see things otherwise.

How it is possible for Isrealis to live in peace with Iranian, Syrian and Palestinian terrorists raising and feeding their children with total hatred against Israel and Jews?
Israel already made peace with Egypt and Jordania, so it is possible to live in peace with more Arab countries.
There would be far less terrorist attacks against innocent Israeli civilians and Jews around the world if perpetrators would be received by the same means of violence they use: let's remember Yad Hazaka has to prevail where words and tolerance don't work.

If you think this is bad, wait till Iran acquires nuclear weapons and hands them over to Hezbollah.

Don't make threats you can't back up.

Now that Nasrallah has called for open war around the globe and announced to the world that he will kill Jews anywhere and at any time simply because they are Jews -- and that his stated goal is the physical elimination of Israel (genocide) -- any such attack will be an act of war by IRAN, Hezbollah's military, financial and religious sponsor.
Israel should let the world know that any such act of war by Iran will invite a response to it BY ANY MEANS and that this counter-attack will not cease until we know they will not acquire nuclear weapons... or have themselves ceased to exist.

Speaking of double standards, Dershowitz forgets Israel's numerous war crimes that are never held to account. Nor are they accountable for the daily Palestinian death toll. And more to the point, Hezbollah is not a terrorist group, since they were formed to fight an illegal Israel occupation of southern Lebanon. Alan Dershowitz is a lawyer. His writings clearly demonstrate one-sided thinking that befits a courtroom attorney trying to convince the 'jury' or the readers of his propaganda. Look into Israeli war crimes, illegal occupations, and see the truth for yourself.

Even should Hezbollah actually kill innocent israelis in the hundreds around the world, it will still not come near to genocide. And if it does constitute genocide, then what is israels killing of 1000 innocent lebanese men, women and children in the last war? Mega genocide? Mr. Dershowitz stop abusing the word of genocide for a couple of cheap points.

Sayyid Qutb, a muslim extremist, has taught:" Let us plant in the hearts and souls of our children the seeds of hatred, revenge and disgust....." Mr Nasrallah has learned it very well. There is no matter if a single jew has nothing to with the death of that murdere and terrorist the main thing is to kill the Jews. There is no moral, sense and logig in the way Nasrallah and terrorists are thinkig - that's why they are terrorists. Thank you Mr. Dershowitz. I admire your way of thinking in this article and in your books.

Richard
you are gravely misinformed..no other country in the world has ever valued innocent lives more than Israel
18 | Michael, Monday Feb 18, 2008
Hizbullah's any excuse to target Israel.
These people are ignorant.
God wont allow his chosen people to be destroyed.
Syria more than likely killed him anyway.
Of course Israel gets the blame.
I am with Israel God bless his people.

Richard, it would be helpful if you would state factual specifics when raising claims of Israel's "war crimes" and "daily arab death toll." As you must realize, stating they exist, does not mean they exist.
Also, please let us know, assuming your your standard of legality relative to the formation of terrorist groups is accurate, would you classify the PLO as a terrorist group, being that it was formed pre-1967?

As a Christian, I say kudos to anyone who was behnd that muderers death. Again the world will point to Israel for anything from drought to nuclear war.
Stay strong! You've got a lot of people that are praying for your success.
21 | Lawrence, Monday Feb 18, 2008
"Richard in Canada", read your histroy books before you embark on this Hezbollah-defense. "...the daily Palestinian death toll..." you blame Israel for obviously pays no mind to the moral obligation Israel both feels and fulfills by providing Gaza with electricity, gasoline, etc. I can hazard a pretty good guess as to how much of these goods and services the Jewish state would receive if the tables were turned.... Why no incictment of the Egyptian wall that prevents these poor people, used as Arab pawns against Israel for generations, from experiencing better living conditions?

If someone raises a fist to you and you do not take immediate action to protect yourself, you deserve the consequences of your inaction.
23 | Pam, USA, Monday Feb 18, 2008
I stand with Israel and always will! Every nation must stop these terrorist groups who stand for nothing but hatred. They use religion to rile up people, but it's the exact opposite they stand for. They stand for power and hatred and always have.

Alan Dershowitz is a true and effective Israeli spokesman. I wish the Palestinians would find one like him to promote their just cause
