Allahu Akbar, Praise the Lord and Hear O Israel can elicit the best of sentiments, but also something else.

A YouTube segment from CNN shows radical Muslims, native born Americans, including one who converted from Judaism, praising Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, calling for Osama bin Laden to continue his holy war, and urging the destruction of Israel.

My link to the item came from an American who wrote, "The Revolutionary Muslim Brothers in our midst protected by the legal rights given to them by OUR COUNTRY, the country they detest so much... slowly but surely we are becoming the United States of Arabia! WATCH and WAKE UP!"

Another wrote that "Nidal Malik Hasan is [a] ... medical doctor [who] assert[s] the ... Palestinian Arab-specific version of the Hippocratic oath: do harm."

Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, MD, is a religious Muslim and American-born son of immigrants from Palestine. He prays daily, may have authored e-mails praising suicide bombers, and was heard saying Allahu Akbar while killing people at Fort Hood.

All this is food for thought. But we should also remember the religious Jews Baruch Goldstein, Yigal Amir, and Yaacov Teitel. Goldstein was a physician and IDF reservist who killed 29 Muslims at prayer in 1994; Amir killed Yitzhak Rabin; Teitel is accused of murder and other violence against Jewish leftists, Palestinians and homosexuals. All found justification for their actions in religious doctrine.

Lest Christians feel themselves secure from deadly religiosity, they should remember those believers who expressed their faith by killing abortionists.

And there has been no shortage of rage among individuals not affiliated with religion, shown by notable cases in post offices, McDonalds resteraunts and high schools. The same issue of The New York Times that carried stories about Fort Hood included a headline about a dismissed employee in Florida who returned to his workplace, killed one and wounded six.

Goldstein, Teitel, and Malik share the trait of having been raised in the United States. They add to the reputation of a society whose murder rate is twice as high as the closest western democracy, and more than four times the average among other democracies.

Jewish and Christian leaders have, for the most part, abandoned ancient doctrines that call for violence against others. Islam has earned our suspicion due to 9-11, suicide bombers, and what happens in Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Muslim countries and Israel have an easier task in dealing with religious extremists than the United States. Egypt, Jordan, Tunis and Syria can wrap themselves in the symbols of Islam while sending the police and army to do things unacceptable elsewhere against those who threaten the state's control of what happens within its boundaries.

Israeli rabbis condemn their colleagues who urge soldiers not to obey orders about clearing settlements. Security services infiltrate Muslim and Jewish extremists. The Knesset banned Rabbi Meir Kahane from politics. Politicians and the media come down heavily against those who endorse the actions of Goldstein, Amir, or Teitel. The police mass against Muslim and Jewish demonstrators at holy sites, or at parking garages open on the Sabbath.

The United States suffers from its pride in individual freedom, multi-culturalism, openness to refugees (especially from countries affected by American military activities), religious freedom, opposition to ethnic profiling, privacy, and easy access to firearms. We can expect a surge of harassment directed at people who look Middle Eastern, as well as official expressions emphasizing that a misguided fringe should not bring retribution against the great majority of Muslims who are good neighbors. Tensions may increase along with immigration from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Members of the Muslim community in and around Fort Hood have expressed their concern:

'When a white guy shoots up a post office, they call that going postal,' said Victor Benjamin II, 30, a former member of the Army. 'But when a Muslim does it, they call it jihad.'

'Ultimately it was Brother Nidal's doing, but the command should be held accountable,' Mr. Benjamin said. 'G.I.'s are like any equipment in the Army. When it breaks, those who were in charge of keeping it fit should be held responsible for it.'"

Ranking officials expressed confusion and caution. The Army Chief of Staff said, "This is a tough one ... It's a kick in the gut." President Obama cautioned against "jumping to conclusions" while investigations continue.
How should individuals protect themselves from the madness of believers? There may be nothing more certain than staying away from sensitive places at sensitive times, and hoping for good luck.

If anyone out there has a better idea, my mailbox is open.

judaism and christianity oppose violence, and most forms of violence found within their textures are considered "history" in that they are not interpreted by mainstream religious scholars to give any authority for Jews or Christians to go out and kill (except in self defence.) However, the MANY violent verses of the Koran, and the Hadiths, are considered theology rather than history. They are interpreted as permission for violence by the highest authorities in the Muslim world. That's why the few jewish terorrists are known byname. The thousands of muslim ones are known by "Allah Hu Akbar".

Not every muslim is a terrorist, but almost every terrorist is a muslim. And it's not just a coincidence.

Political correctness is killing American soldiers inside of the US. Do you think that other hostile countries are using PC as a weapon to paralyze the government in America? Any opinions of how to overcome or counter the PC weakness?

There is always the debate as to how much TV influences actions. Murder, anger, hate, revenge and reinforcing stereotypes as acting can only create 'thin' characters. American TV at present is either competitive, people 'picking on' each other and others laughing at it or investigations of violence and death that 'uncover' hate, deception and immorality. I would like to add that a Americans I have met have introduced themselves as Italian American or Lebanese American. I probed into this with one American and found even though second generation he still thought of himself as first an ethnic.

Shahab Mohd of India...oh yes, Your relations with Pakistan are wonderful...do you remember Mumbai! These Palestinian Arabs could have had a Pali State so many times we cant even count them! Starting with the UN mandate in 1948 for TWO STATES (count em) but the Arabs (recently free states after WW2) choose war...and guess what they lost! Two states is easy, but these sicko terrorist rats of radical Islam want to destroy everything Jewish in Israel..they cant stand the fact that Jews control Jerusalem. Stcik to Indias problems ..we dont need your advice!

Something that you and so many naive folks in the West ignore is Islams drive for global dominance by stealth with the left hand and openly with the right hand. They are well on their way due to the tolerance for evil and political insanity called 'political correctness' It's just another word for the national suicide of the west.Appeasing ones enemies so they see how stupid and nice we are. The Islamists can see our self destructive rot and are now moving in for the kill thanks to the leftist mindset which always calls evil good and good evil.Judgment day is here folks.

Even the terrorist Jews did not invoke g-ds name when they murdered. Allah Akbar almost always precedes massacres by Muslim martrys. Allah Akbhar seems to be a fundamental precept of Islam that permits one to call a mass murderer a martyr. Its the fundamental difference that stands at what everyone wants to ignore as being the war of the civllizations.

Yes they were (few) jewish and christian terrorists. But 99% of terrorists are muslims. Something like 9 out 10 victims of terrorism where killed or injured by a muslim. Its all about proportion. Simply saying that all religions have their terrorists is not only misleading but deceitful.

The difference, to me, is not in the actor, but in the response of the community. When an abortion doctor is killed, many Christians abhor the act and say so loudly and repeatedly. They immediately begin to admonish those among their co-religionists who feel similarly. Yes, there are fringe characters who celebrate, but they are drowned out by the very visible outrage of the others. Many Jewish groups constantly self-police, debate and, when called for, punish their own. Yet where are the Muslims who, in response to this outrage, need to cry out "Not In My Name!" The silence is deafening.

we forget that people have feelings. racist remarks are tollerated up to a certain point.enough calling names to people that are different than you. nobody is better than others.

Your comparison is more than a bit disingenuous. The three religious Jews who commited murder are anomalies - horrible as it is, we're talking about a total of 3 in the past few decades. And in each case the Jewish religious community has overwhelmingly condemned these acts as abhorent to Judaism. In contrast, Islam has produced countless suicide bombers, etc. And not only is there hardly a word of condemnation from the Muslim world, but they are in many cases glorified as martyrs. There's too much at stake here to equate these two worlds in such an irresponsible way.

Just read that at least 20 more Muslims have been blown to bits in Pakistan by another Muslim bomber. And # 10 Dan is right! There is NO Muslim outrage at suicide bombings even when Muslims are victims. And absolutely no Muslim outrage at the so-called "honor" murders now occuring in the US. Remember Hamas wants 1000+ terrorists back for 1 Jewish soldier. When the tiny number of non-Muslim terrorists is used to "compare" religions it is out and out fraud and a delberate attempt to deceive and cover up the truth!

its funny to read some of the comments and stats given in this post. saying things like 99% of terrorist are muslims and not all muslims are terrorist but all terrorists are muslims is a joke. what would you call a person like radovan kardizac who killed over 8,000 bosnians? what about the oaklahoma city bombers who wer christian funamentalist? why wasn't their religions bashed? you say that muslim are all extremist, yet the whole idea if israel is based on a fairytale made up by religious extremist.
15  |   Carolyn Oregon, Wednesday Nov 11, 2009
It really matters not that the stats are incorrect on some comments regarding muslims. The fact that someone could do this horrific act and say "Allah Hu Akbar" is clearly what the point is. The suspect had a mission in his mind at that point and it appears he had the intentions before hand as well. Don't loose sight of the point that is under focus here. This would not be considered "bashing" as you say, but rather the facts as they are known. No one's comments I've read have been "bashing". It is their view from their understanding.

Sidney in Miami has to lie and say that the Oklahoma city bomber McVeigh,Nichols were Christian fundamentalists to make some kind of point ?That is A BIG FAT LIE,but whats new with the cult of death and their apologists, their only recourse to lie because the facts are not on their side That is the problem with the left and their Islamic terrorist partners, they always twist the facts and hide their true agenda.Takiya is the Muslim's carta blanch to lie to and deceive non-muslims as warfare against the infidels. The only fairytale is that of Mohammed and his Koran.
17  |   Tomliboo, Wednesday Nov 11, 2009
Some comments suggest that a lack of outrage at bombings from within the Muslim community shows that most of them agree with terrorist methods and ideas. But the Western commercial media wouldn't print Muslim condemnation of terrorism anyway, because that would be boring and doesn't attract as much attention (and money) as a loud, fiery, placard-waving, extreme preacher. As well as Western media bias, the vast majority of moderate Muslims may be afraid to speak out against terror in case they themselves become victims of terror. A Pakistani cleric was recently murdered by the Taliban for this.

Change starts from within not from outside. Muslims keep blaming everyone that they are hated, but a change is needed in their attitude towards terrorism. Remember, every Terorist has an Imam. Until the Muslims in america begin to report their own radical imams to the FBI, I believe they are not been truthfull. Comimg from the other side of the Isle. I am not convinced yet that its a religion of peace. When prayers were banned in schools in America, christain pastors did not tell their congregation to take gun and kill unbelievers. They told them to pray for those that persecute them.

The collective competency of this audience thus far seems to be only matched by their twisted desire to point fingers towards a handful of Muslims that do not represent even a fraction of the collective Muslim community. No Muslim, furthermore, no rational or compassionate human being would ever harm another human.Furthermore, the lack of what "Allahu Akabar" means seems to also missed here. The phrase is utilized to praise, thank and or to express gratitude to the Most Merciful, the Most benevolent. Its used when a baby is born, its used when some passes away, its used when in everyday life.

It just goes to show how all of these middle eastern religions are wacko. They are the root of all evil.

Al, USA: I agree with Ira. Gilo is part of Jerusalem and should remain so. Pres. Obama is naive and doesn't really understand the situation. However, if he does that is even worse, for he then is intentionally undermining Israel and the city of Jerusalem. Winners of wars and territories traditionally have not returned won territories unless they got something substantial in return. So far the PA has been unwilling to do so. We saw the consequences of leaving Gaza.
Pero, massachusetts: To shani: what about the sinai? israel returned to egypt 1981, and only agreed to do so in 1977, 4 years after the youm kippour war. what about when israel pulled out of lebanon? isnt that in the last 500 years. and anyway, just because something is won in war doesn't make it legitimate To neal: Britain's mandate was based on the fact that it conquered palestine. what right does britain have to give it away? is this your logic? things can only be won through. my friend, if that is your logic, arabs will be in a perpetual state of war with you, be cause you have no legitimacy.
Jay: yes possession counts! by your logic " EdB" the United States should give back all the land it stole from the Indians over the early years of the US's massive expansion. Israelis have more right to all of Jerusalem, Judea (hello?) & Samaria then do the americans to places like the state of Iillinois, Michigan, Ohio ect... because they all in fact had large native populations pre-dating the conquest of european/anglo-saxon's and would be the "palestinians" of today. with one big exception: the Jews pre-date the "palestinians" on this land by 2000 years.
