Candidly Speaking: Israel has to stop apologizing and take the offensive Posted by Isi Leibler
Comments: 47
The non-Jewish seer Balaam is quoted in the Torah describing Jews as the "the people that dwells apart and is not reckoned amongst the nations." Recent events, climaxing with the UN Goldstone report, have certainly borne this out. The maliciously biased report alleged that the Israelis deliberately targeted civilians and accused them of crimes against humanity. We should not have been surprised. It was a logical extension from the anti-Israeli Besides, what could one expect from a committee created by the ineptly titled UN Human Rights Council, which is dominated by rogue regimes like Iran, Syria, Somalia, Libya, Cuba and Liberia? Some of the leaders of the member-states would qualify as candidates for prosecution as war criminals. The council's In fact, since its inception in 2006, 26 of the 32 resolutions condemning human rights violations passed by the council were directed against Israel. It should also be noted that this UN "human rights" body declined to investigate the monstrous brutalities inflicted on civilian populations in Chechnya, Sri Lanka and Sudan. Indeed it went so far as to bizarrely thank the Sudanese government, the perpetrators of the Darfur massacres, for its "cooperation." Likewise, the far more numerous civilian casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan never appeared on the council's agenda. When the commission was being created, even Mary Robinson, the former head of the UN Durban hate fest, declined an invitation to head the inquiry because it was too "one-sided." The UN Human Rights Council machers then recruited Richard Goldstone, a vain South African Jewish judge, who despite being aware from the outset of the biased composition of the panel, permitted himself to be used as a fig leaf to provide credibility to the Israel-bashers. He did not even have second The depths to which Goldstone, who purports to be a long-standing "Zionist," totally identified himself with this crude anti-Israeli exercise, was exemplified in his recent New York Times op-ed, in which he had the gall to compare Israel's defense against Hamas to the atrocities committed in Darfur, where millions were displaced and over 200,000 civilians were raped and butchered. The report could have been drafted by Hamas operatives. It represents a lengthy compendium of lies primarily appropriated from Hamas-orchestrated Arab testimony and anti-Israeli NGOs. On the basis of "evidence" from these rabidly hostile sources, the tribunal defamed as war criminals the nation which undoubtedly displays greater concern over civilian casualties than any other country in the world. Prime Minister Netanyahu is now urging the United States and other democratic countries to speak up and condemn the abominable report, which effectively challenges the right of nations to defend their civilian The response will be a litmus test for the Obama administration, which so far has been disappointingly tepid in its reaction. We should certainly not be holding our breath over the European response. Their track record of appeasing Arab extremists is appalling. One can also predict an escalation in anti-Israeli libels at forthcoming sessions of the UN General Assembly, which will now be presided over by a new president, Ali Treki, the former foreign minister of that bastion of human rights, Libya. It is thus essential that we now get our act together. We must pay more attention to the threat from within. Today, self-loathing Jews (including Israelis) are at the forefront of almost every campaign to denigrate and defame Israel and the Jewish people. Such "Jews" are not a new phenomenon. They maintain the tradition of their predecessors during the Middle Ages who allowed themselves to be used as instruments of the most venomous Christian anti-Semitic campaigns, and more recently of the Jewish communists who applauded the murderous policies of Stalin and justified Soviet state-sponsored anti-Semitism. There is no doubt that the vile rumors concerning supposed IDF atrocities initiated some months ago by Israelis which were subsequently proven to be utterly false, published by the daily Ha'aretz and emblazoned on the front pages of the world media, added fuel to the climate of hostility against That was followed by blood libels and the greatest global manifestations of anti-Semitism seen since It is thus surely time to stop ignoring the self-loathing Jews and Israelis who now occupy key roles in the campaigns to delegitimize and demonize our people. Freedom of expression enables them to continue articulating their vile attacks on their own people, but it is high time that they be exposed We must also provide our children, both in Israel and in the Diaspora, with greater awareness of the hypocrisy, double standards and extreme bias which are being applied against their people. We must ensure that despite the global campaign to defame and demonize Israel and the Jewish people, our They must understand that the tiny State of Israel is being demonized because it will not stand by with folded arms and enable the barbarians at their gates to spill innocent Jewish blood. We must stop continuously explaining or apologizing, and take the offensive. These past few months we should have been concentrating on exposing the evil nature and crude bias of the Human Rights Council before it released its "findings." We should have more vigorously exposed the prejudice and double standards of the despicable NGO human rights bodies that have adopted Israel-bashing as a vocation. At the cost of being unkind, I would also strongly recommend our government replace our current UN ambassador with a more charismatic personality along the lines of our previous envoy, Dan Gillerman. The government should also immediately create an international task force of the best Israeli and Diaspora jurists to confront this new effort to undermine our legitimacy.

I fully agree. Stop apologising and explaining. Start attacking, exposing the human rights abuses in other countries including those events in the past like Dresden, Iraq, Spanish cruelties in South America, the inquisition, Amritsar. Keep on repeating these examples like the Arabs who keep on repeating lies until other nations believe them. Hamas treatment of their "own brothers" in Fatah. Beheadings, stoning, whipping. Each time I switch to BBC or CNN they are talking about Muslims, Arabs, Sharia finance. Reporters are too intimidated to expose the Muslim's insidious taking over.

It is time for Israel to lead; there are no world leaders; not a single leader in the whole of the world, except Israel; which world "leader" speaks the truth? none;God instructed Israel to "not" have a government like the rest of the world; Israel spends its credibility trying to be like the rest of the world and loved by the rest of the world; God's purpose is frustrated by Israel's fantasy; Israel must LEAD, NOW;

I don't know much about the UN ambassador from Israel, however, if he is an apologist as Mr Leibler says, then Israel is making a big mistake. We Jews have learned from our dire history that "weak whinning and apologizing gets us huge disasterous problems I can give you six million reasons! Maybe we should apologize for giving the world..God, the Ten Commandments, Jesus, and even Allah! Merry Xmas!

I read wtih cmplete dismay, the frightened behaviour of ISRAELI political endeavour, to confront the growing Arab encroachment.. this can only happen in Isreal.. STOP being so intimidated.. ATTACK.. ATTACK.. ATTACK.. on all fronts, the stronger the Arabs percieve, us to be, the less likely they will be to cause Strife...
No backing down..Arabs have to know , all the land of Israel, belongs to the Jews...form the North to the South
It is unbelievable, that the Jers'lm police are afraid to enter some parts of a Jewish city.. this is completely
unacceptable.. there has to be the political will..

Thanks for bringing up Balaam. Though non Jewish, he heard and spoke the word of the God of Israel. He had no choice. Balaam wanted to curse Israel, there was every incentive to do so! Nevertheless God would not hear Balaam; but God turned the curse into a blessing, because God loved Israel. Balaam then tried another way, very cunning, he tried to seduce Israel from serving God, (just like they did with Goldstone!) so God wouldn't bless them. It did not prosper. Israel's 3,500 year history shows no effort to undermine Israel's legitimacy will prosper.

Any violence, by arabs against the Jews of Israel, MUST be met with appropriate retribution, swiftly, maliciosly, &
with the purpose, to illustrate, the consequences, of their barbarity....
no Arab, shall violate, any Israeli, without extreme REVENGE...
how can the Jews, allow, acts of terrorism against themselves, and not have the perpetrators, pay the utmost price..
anything less, shows the other side, the weakness,& lack of resolve, to punish to the utmost level..
the Arab barbarians, understand, only thing...brute force..

Mr. Leibler, you seem to put the responsibility for allowing this outrage to happen on the Israeli government. You have to be reminded that the current one has been in power for barely 6 months, trying very hard to undo the damage the previous one did, and most importantly how to meet the Iranian threat. To help the most, the PR team you ask the government to create can be initiated/organized by people like yourself and offered to Israel as a gift, since Israel has so much on its plate already. Your suggestion to replace Gavriela Shalev at the UN is a good one.

If you push me,i will not retaliate but if you push me to the extreme,i will turn back and attack. Why should we be apologising when we are exhibiting self defence?.Common, lets face the truth. All i see is that the State of Israel exhibited self defence and why didn't the UN investigate the attack into Israel by Hamas?.And i suggest that the UN should go to Somalia and look at what is happening there and not blame anybody for exhibiting self defence.

I agree with you, Israel is treated unjustly for defending itself against aggressors. Your term "Christian anti-semitic campaigns" was painful to me. True Christians cannot be anti-semitic for "a house diveded against itself cannot stand".

Dear Friends in Israel:
I am an American. We love you and your country.
In my opinion, our government leaders do not represent the opinions of the vast majority of our people.
We pray for God's mighty Hand to protect all of you and keep you safe.
Please know that most Americans are 100% in support of you!
May God be with us all.
Peace be with you our Brothers and Sisters.

I'm not sure these measures are capable of rectifying the current situation. All this Israel bashing has a point. It is engineered to give our enemies leverage against us. We need to identify the subltle chain of perpetrators, catalog their vulnerabilities, and exploit their weaknesses. We also need to recognize that as long as it can continue it will. Eventually "The Big Lie" requires a response. We must introduce the truth along each successive link challenging the disemminators as well as the propaganda they spew.

One way of moderating negative (and false) commentary regarding Israel is to have a 24-hour television station not unlike al-Jazeera, professionally run and given over to both news and documentaries from an Israeli (Zionist) perspective. Chaim Goldman, an entrepreneur in Jerusalem, is a partner in a group of professionals which have been trying to start some such for the past half dozen years but with no apparent success in spite of the fact that the preponderance of government spokespersonnel and Jewish philanthropists all agree, in the main, with the idea.

One of the most unnerving propaganda campaigns against the legitimacy of our government comes from the Israeli academic community as recently revealed in the campaign fracture our country re Neve Gordon of BGU. It is galling that we must pay taxes to support these professors in their constant attempts to damage Israel, to educate their students in a likewise destructive manner and to exclude graduate students and potential colleagues who do not suscribe to their biased perspectives all the while supposedly endorsing freedom of speech and research. Go to isracampus.org.il for background.

I agree. Inexplicibly liberals turned against Israel after they thrashed the Arabs in 1967, which lead to the Oslo fiasco. I realize that Israeli's are desperate for peace but it won't be yours until you stop the land for peace lie. Shout to the world you will not be a doormat for Islam and you will preserve your country. Isi is absolutely correct, no apologizing and stop trying to make sense to liberals, they do not understand reality, even when reality chops off their heads. Just keep doing what you must do & shut up Barak & Livni, neither are the voice of the Israeli people. Ya'alon is!!!

Just another yawn inspiring "Israel as victim" and "barbarians spilling innocent jewish blood" piece. .... and yes we even have deflections, "look over here...look over there" pointing to the poor behaviour of other countries. Indeed, there is a basis of fact in these machinations but Isi ignores the fact that Israel has "form". Many sources over many years have documented Israeli atrocities. The big problem for the chattering zionists is that you are speaking to yourselves, noone believes you anymore. Why bother? The world knows Israel has become a viscious, racist regime.

What Israel needs to do first is stop making reckless errors so they wont have to apologize and also should not be too quick to resort to using only using brute force, there are other ways of waging a war against your enemies and one of those is through the use of the media, which Iran and Hamas use so well...I think comment #1 says it pretty well... The best defense is a good offense. Our Public relations is horrible!
We need a P.R offensive, including an international TV channel, to show our point of view..and expose other garbage happening in the world. Our "light unto the nations" needs to be turned on!!
The "leader" of the general assembly is from Libya??? Is the world completely crazy???????

RIGHT ON! Israel was meant to be a strong, gutsy little state. We are the state of the Six Days War and Entebbe. Israel should take the offensive on every front. On the propaganda front: As Leibler advocates, we must expose the lies, hypocrisy and evil of the UN continuously. Not wait passively for yet another hateful hoax before we act. On the military front: we should retake Gaza and destroy Hizbullah, Hamas and Fatah BEFORE they bombard us. Rather than wait for 10,000 rockets before we respond. Diplomatically, we should MAKE strong demands instead of reacting to our enemies' demands.

Israel needs to be the 'trigger' and Europe and the US will join the fray. It'll take less than amonth to cripple not only the nuclear facilities but also to destroy all naval ports, all army facilites, all their air force facilities.
It will be a Declaration of War to protect the country's survival.
The American people will be there, do not worry.

Appears that you have the same problem as our America loathing President who agrees with the tyrants, dictators and despots that we are an evil country that can do nothing right. Nevermind all the good that we have done. Nevermind that Israel is our friend. Revisionist history is being taught to our children. We're sick of it and finally people are standing up and saying enough is enough. Netanyahus speech at the UN was truly awe inspiring for its truthfulness. We are praying for you as we are praying for the US. G-d help us all.

This is an excellent article. We do, indeed, need to stop apologizing and go on the offensive. And those who call for boycotts against our tiny, much-beleaguered nation should not have plush posts in our universities. The ironic thing is that Israelk is NOT an apartheid state, but the Arab League nations are! We need to make the world know that!

PART ONE: Isi Leibler's comment is 100% truth. But who wants to see the truth and stand up for it? Certainly not the leftists around the world. Similar to George Orwell's Animal Farm, in their eyes four legs (leftists) are good, two legs ( conservatives, patriots ) are bad. However, I disagree with Cecily from Cyprus. Focusing on crimes in the past will be counterproductive.
26 |

PART TWO: First, people don't know history. Those who do have a different view anyway. They know the insidious lies of propaganda and they see that the prevalent present assessment of Israel's policies is nothing but propaganda. So let's focus on what has to be done now. I think, Israel's leader, Benyamin Netanyahu, has to accept one of the most difficult tasks a politician may have to fulfil :
27 |
Josef, Germany,
Tuesday Sep 29, 2009
PART THREE: implementing a policy which he knows to be absolutely necessary, being surrounded by a world opinion which is hostile to Israel's interests. His role is historic, only comparable to Churchill's mission during the war against Hitler. Netanyahu must now have the guts and attack Iran in order to guarantee Israel's survival, no matter what the stupid western world thinks.

All of this is good, but what we Jews really have to do in order to dwell in peace is observe our commandments better. There are 613 commandments in the Torah and we are lax, as a people, on many of them. These include such things as looking out for your fellow man's property as well as Sabbath observance. Some might consider the former more important and others the latter, but God says that they are both important. We need to improve on all fronts. International recognition, peace, prosperity, etc. will follow. It is promised by the One who provides everything for everybody.

Israeli policy regarding the Palestinian people will continue to cause Israel to feel isolated among nations. Why? Because, rather than "explaining and apologizing", Israeli policy centers on constant attack, verbal and physical. Gaza and the West Bank are a new "Warsaw Ghetto", and such policies were and are wrong- whether done to Jews or by Jews. I'm sure many in Israel know this. The radical right that currently rules Israel will never listen to anyone, and until there is a fair settlement between Israel and the Palestinians, there will be no peace. The world knows this. Please listen.

A lot of people here expose dire ignorance. Regarding the threat in Iran, Israel will not be attacking Iran militarily from the air. Period.
Regarding world opinion, first of all, on the whole, it is quite pro-Israel. While the leftist newspapers and NGOs in the Western countries that we read and encounter say otherwise, the people in those countries and in numerous other countries throughout the world have great respect for Israel. Second, Israel is a nation that dwells alone and must not make policy to please the world. The same Bilaam (not "Balaam") prophecy said that, didn't it?

The 'Breakdown of the 20th Century in the West, thats given us political-correctness, an anti-Israel BBC, an effeminised England, and a whole sickening gamut of sleazy heroes - has enabled the communist world to take a break, and the islamic world to relapse into psychosis once again. Israels hard and uncomfortable decisions are totally correct - and shows up the West for its depth of weakness and the extent of its backslide. Russia is still enigmatic, China materialistic, the West not quite united, and America's best historic efforts thoroughly thankless.. thankless world we live in.

While I completely agree with Isi's basic premise, the mode of attack mustn't be ad hominum. We are laughed at for our attacks on self-hating Jews and anti-Semites. We can't compare ourselves to the Sudanese to show our virtue. The basis of the attack must be that "international humanitarian law" is a farce, retroactively cobbled together to protect the French Resistance from the Nazis, that has led to longer and more devastating warfare than ever (except WWs 1 & 2) existed prior to its appearance on the world stage. Under current rules, Barak really is a war criminal, and Masha'al isn't.

It doesn't make any difference if the whole world treats us unfairly, for whatever reason. Pleading for fairness is a losing proposition when the visuals show us with tanks and them with stones. The reason our withdrawal from Gaza is still called occupation is that Hamas and Fatah are still non-state players, and per international "law", aren't responsible for their actions. We have to declare borders move non-Israelis to the other side, and call for the establishment of an Arab state with whom we can normalize relations. If THEY refuse relations, they become their own problem, not ours.

Israel needs to defend itself with military action against Iran immediately. If Obama tries to shoot our planes down then we know he is working against the G-d of our forefathers. When Israel destroyed the nuclear weapons plants in Iraq and Syria they helped to save many US lives. The American Jews need to wake up and help Israel with all their means. When will they wake up and understand that negotiations with Islamic terrorists will get you no where. The U.S. and Israel have the means to avert a nuclear holocaust. The question is will it be too late.

God always stirred up opposition to Israel when they took on the ways of the world. He warned against debt, most interest, insurance, and seeking riches and honors, yet Israel and Jews pride themselves on all those things. The goal in life is not the employment lifestyle. That is bondage and caused the world problems. When Israel stops looking to other nations, God can be their God and Leviticus 26 promises rain in due season and good health and safety for following His word in a garden paradise lifestyle. hhmm why does Israel even care what the world thinks? I don't see Honduras, Burma, North Korea, Russia, or Guiena giving a damn what the world think so why should Israel at point listen to the world who is increasingly becoming more ignorant, lazy and useless as time goes by. War crimes? please Russia's military had commited more war crimes and human rights violations than ANYONE on the planet. Israel should ignore the UN and their bullshit reports and move on. Plus they should increase the standard of living of the Palestinians so that they won't attack them again.

Israel and all Jews should for posterity emblazon and curse the name Richard Gladstone as an affront to the memory of all the children used for bayonet practice by the murderous Nazis, to all the women raped and paraded naked before gassing them, to all the men who were stripped of their dignity and humanity and then murdered in gas chambers, to the memory of the little boys and girls whose flesh was shredded by the homicide terrorists on their way to school in buses. We should also quit blustering and threatening (including that which is done on blogs like this). Bluster makes us look like war-mongers, and empty threats are worse than useless at solving problems. Failure to follow through on threats leads to a perception of Israeli weakness, which costs Israeli lives. Actions breed respect and safety. The pointless peace "process" must stop. If our neighbors ever really want peace, they all know the address.

One of the most frustrating issues is the power of Israel 's own left. The academia, students and others have made it extremely difficult to create a state which acts to protect itself. This group cries for equal rights for terrorists......the poor Palestinian children, etc. Did the world cry about all of the lost lives of German civilians during WW!!? Israel's policy of wringing its hands every time a Palestinian is accidentally killed, creates in itself an entire left culture within, which prevents Israel from being able to maintain its Jewish values. Israel's own left is a problem.

"Did the world cry about all of the lost lives of German civilians during WW!!?" Why do this only apply to Palestinians ? Why should the world cry the lost lives of Israelis in this conflict then ? That's the core of the problem: Israel won't find peace until it stops believing that one Jewish life is more important than the life of an Arab. Otherwise, it's just plain racism. Stop slowly stealing the land of Palestinians one ILLEGAL colony at a time, stop making their live miserable and without hope. You'll then be able to pretend to be poor victim. Otherwise, the palestinians are your victims

First Samuel 2:12 - 16 and Revelation 2:12 - 16 If you abandon the NAME [ Acts 2:38 ] and water down the FAITH the messiah will become the incredible shrinking man who can be wrapped in swaddling clothes and abandoned in a manger. Antipas refused when the false church threatened to take NAME and the FAITH [ the choice cuts ] by force.
